I was raised on Python and even as a 14 year old in '89 I felt like I'd lost a beloved family member when Graham passed, rest easy my friend and thank you.

Graham chapman was a very talented man he was a skilled writer, comedic actor, and even a medical doctor. He died over two months after my fifth birthday. May he and his passed family members rest in peace.

He's quite fidgety. Coming from someone who understands anxiousness quite well, I can see why alcohol was a difficult thing for Graham to quit. Even though I was born after he died, I miss him immensely. Such an amazing soul

"Graham Chapman, co-author of the ‘Parrot Sketch,’ is no more.
He has ceased to be, bereft of life, he rests in peace, he has kicked the bucket, hopped the twig, bit the dust, snuffed it, breathed his last, and gone to meet the Great Head of Light Entertainment in the sky, and I guess that we’re all thinking how sad it is that a man of such talent, such capability and kindness, of such intelligence should now be so suddenly spirited away at the age of only forty-eight, before he’d achieved many of the things of which he was capable, and before he’d had enough fun.
Well, I feel that I should say, 'Nonsense. Good riddance to him, the freeloading bastard! I hope he fries.'
And the reason I think I should say this is, he would never forgive me if I didn’t, if I threw away this opportunity to shock you all on his behalf. Anything for him but mindless good taste. I could hear him whispering in my ear last night as I was writing this:
'Alright, Cleese, you’re very proud of being the first person to ever say ‘sh**’ on television. If this service is really for me, just for starters, I want you to be the first person ever at a British memorial service to say ‘f***’!'"
John Cleese, doing the eulogy at Graham Chapman's funeral.

So glad to have watched this.
I am a card carrying Python obsessive, and footage of Dear Graham is relatively rare, so to see this is a real treat!
Also rather poignant as he only had around 14 months left to live...

Thank you for this. Interviews with lovely Graham are quite rare and precious so it's always wonderful to see a new one (any more would be gratefully received!) Also it's good to hear Graham talking about himself rather than other people doing it for him.
(By way way Graham's father died in 1983 so "three years ago" makes this 1986 not 1988. Just saying).

I wonder whether he was already ill here?
Also the dates are curious - the Python 'moment' when he decided to stop drinking must have been in 1974, he also says he was 37 when he wrote his book when he was in the throes of alcoholism, which makes it 1978. But he gave the impression elsewhere that he gave up drinking very soon after the Grail film. I wonder what really happened?
RIP to Graham, I adored him and still miss him a lot.

    • @hilaryepstein6013
      @hilaryepstein6013 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Graham stopped drinking the day after Christmas 1977, three years after the Holy Grail incident and a few months before filming started on Life of Brian. He really wanted to play Brian and knew he could only do so if he quit.
I suppose he had his reasons for saying he stopped just after Holy Grail. I've also wondered why he said that too. I just wish he'd stopped smoking too.

@@hilaryepstein6013 Hi, thank you very much for the information.
Do you think then that smoking killed him? So many alcoholics seem to smoke very heavily after stopping drinking.

@@ysgol3 Yes Graham is missed, but he's loved and remembered today not just for Python but the person he was. He bravely stood up for what he believed in and had a wisdom way ahead of his time.
He started smoking his pipe at a young age (and drinking too) so yes it's possible.

Despite some of the comments by the usual haters, it was actually a great video post. I was in the process of writing a note praising you when it was removed. I hope the reason you removed it wasn't because of any negative feedback.
