Kai is the new drummer....Jukka was the first drummer. He left due to chronic Insomnia, and severe migraines whenever he played his drums! I have severe sleep apnea, and I was getting less than 20 minutes of REM sleep...which led me to hallucinate while I was awake! Jukka is still with the band in a managerial position with Nightwish! Oh...congratulations!!! Glad to hear the band is doing so well!

It was year 2007 and I heard this song from radio (I"m from Finland) and I was like what is this? I really fell in love with Nightwish, Anette was singing and I think Tuomas writed that song for her, that"s why it is so "pop". Anette has beautiful pop voice, but I still prefer Floor. This song was written for Anette, their 2nd singer, who has more rock/pop vocals, not the classical style of Tarja (1st singer). Tuomas has a real talent of knowing what suits the singers voice. Floor can obviously sing it all and more.
Annette was a pop singer (at least her voice was poppy), and Amaranth was written, recorded, and performed when she was in the band. This was Juuka on the drum kit in 2013. Kai took over for him when Juuka could not keep the busy schedule while suffering from severe insomnia causing health issues. You need to check out Wintersun doing a studio warmup of Sons of Winter and stars. Kai's drumming is insane.
Hey, bro! Glad things are going well for you, and glad to see you react to another Nightwish song! A word about the drummer Jukka Nevalainen: He stepped down in 2014, making his departure official in 2015, because of chronic insomnia. Since then, he has worked behind the scenes as part of the business side. However, anyone saying that Jukka _has not_ returned are incorrect. Jukka, according to Tuomas Holopainen in a French interview in 2021, has actually played I believe 3 smaller shows in Europe -- and he has only played Last Ride of the Day, his favorite song to play. He also expressed a desire to one day return to the kit, if he thought he could handle it. As for the song, this is one of the songs that Tuomas gets his mind blown, and realizes how much Floor completes his auditory vision. Watch his arms as Floor gets the crowd involved during the bridge, when it's only Jukka playing: Tuomas is in shock, his arms in the air, hands above his head -- in disbelief. One of the most vindicated reactions to a vision and hard work I've ever seen any consumate master of a skill or trade have, when they realize that they succeeded. That, IMHO, was what Wacken 2013 meant to Tuomas: That he finally had made his vision a reality, despite all of the bumps and hardships and conflicts and drama along the way.

My guess is you’ve already gone back to see the official music video for the studio version of this song. If so, you will see Anette, who looks, sounds, and moves like a pop singer. This was a conscious pivot for the band, who knew if they simply tried to replicate Tarja, it wouldn’t have worked. So they took the opportunity to explore new music stylings. This band is unique to me in that a song like “Nemo” belongs to Tarja and this one belongs to Anette. They are so fortunate in Floor to have found a vocalist who can traverse their entire career, while putting her own stamp on the songs. And as you stated again and again, no one (and I mean NO ONE) commands an audience like Floor.

The versions on Gabriel’s list are fine, but all the Wacken 2013 set can be found slowed down: not enough to alter the pitch, just enough to make the riffs sound slightly ponderous, as if being played through treacle.
Jukka is still in the crew, i think he is some kind of merch manager. He suffered of severe insomnia problems, for years after a show. Kai is one of his best freinds and is also drummer in "Wintersun" as the new baseplayer Jukki who replaced Marco....puh😅

Due to line up changes, it is easier to establish new company with new partnerships than change old ones and to control money flow/royalties/compensarions etc. better.
This was written when Anette was the singer. This shows Tuomas's talent because he wrote songs based on the singers' strengths. Anette had the poppy sound.

Great reaction! This song was originally written for their second singer Annette Olzen who had a much more poppy voice so metal Disney is spot on. Also note that Floor did some YT covers from her home studio during the pandemic, one of which was Let it Go from Frozen which she recorded for her daughter.

Congratulations on your success my friend. This was one of Nightwish' big single releases from 2007. That is no worries. Tuomas is a big Disney fan. So many people have commented on this element in his compositions. Metal doesn't have to always be about anger and aggression.

Great to see a reaction to this one! It's not so common. This is one of their radio hits from the Annette era (which is why it sounds pop-y, as Floor comes close to Annette's take on the song here). I think it is their biggest radio hit? This one and Nemo. I love the crowd engagement in this one, the turn, the drop into the transition - most of the things you pointed out. I highly recommend Nemo from this show if you want to hear their other big radio hit (I love Nemo from this show), and Storytime! That's my favorite song from Floor and this show, and I am pretty sure you haven't done it! I'm also going to recommend Empty Daydream, live from 2019, from Lovebites. Reason being, you've heard them, but I don't think you have done of of the "E" songs (Empty Daydream, Edge of the World, Epilogue). Those songs are really different. You get to hear Asami's R&B background, some more of Miyako on piano. In the case of Empty Daydream, I think it is the only one that you hear full-on vocal harmonies in play with backup vocals. It's amazing. Also, the lyrics have a structure and progression that I think is probably more common in rock and pop, and the song itself sounds almost like it was written and sung in the 80s. I think you'd enjoy it. It is one of my favorites from them.
Look at Tuomas when Floor engages the crowd in the middle of the song - around 7:08, he puts his hands on his head, as if to say.. omg! There is such a rush of power in that moment as the crowd becomes a lot louder!

The music video for this song is good if you want to hear 2nd lead singer, Swede Anette Olzon, who has more of a pop/rock style. Wintersun is also where current nightwish bassist, Jukka Koskinen, came from. If you want to hear them, try Sons of Winter and Stars or Time , both from the live rehearsals at Sonic Pump Studios.
Hey, I think you’d really enjoy Battle Beast. They are a heavy/power metal band from Finland. Their lead singer Noora Louhimo has a very unique and powerful voice + the vibe of the whole band is just awesome. I’d suggest their song “Where angels fear to fly”. It’s from their newest album Circus of Doom. They have a great music video for this song but I think they are even better live. The best quality live video of this performance is from Graspop 2022. (although they do have these RAW-live recordings which are professionally filmed but they are in a more casual setting) The Graspop video has the whole setlist but “Where angels fear to fly” starts at 18.30 and ends at 23.35. Yes, this is one of their poppier songs but it is damn sure catchy and fun. I really enjoyed you commenting on the instrumentation with the keyboard sampling of brass inserted into the chorus repeat and also on the way Jukka is so demonstrative on drums. Fun to watch. Tuomas doesn’t use keyboard “samples” for the symphonic flourishes. He composes the orchestral backing which is recorded as played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. These backing tracks are then played for each song, with band playing over them. Pip Williams works closely with Tuomas on the orchestral arrangements.

If you want to hear Nightwish use some serious brass check out Master Passion Greed! You have to listen to the studio version because they’ve never preformed it live.
This is a great live version. I actually prefer the studio version with Anette on vocals. The video is heavier with an amazing back story, and is a bit darker.

You describe it well where it should have gone with the second singer Anette. The video for the single is one of the most clicked. In the end it doesn't work. This is one of the last concerts with Jukka. He had to stop recording the next album because of chronic insomnia and he asks his friend Kai to take over temporarily. He never returns and today works in the management of Nightwish.
If you want a heavier song and also learn how to pronounce Kai’s name you should def watch ”Weak Fantasy”. There’s live performances from Wembley and Tampere, both are good ☺️

Please keep going down Gabriels list. There are so many elements to Nightwish that changes the band completely that you've yet to be introduced to. And Gabriels list introduces them to you one by one. Right now you're shooting blind, and listening to other random comments directing you to other songs will diminish the joy you get from discovering the aspects one by one. Also it will prepare you properly for Poet and the Pendulum.
Listening and reacting to PP without being prepared will reduce the joy and emotion you get from it by at least 75%. Follow Gabriels list, and by the time you reach it we - the audience - will have explained everything and made you ready.
Amaranth is my favorite Nightwish song. Floor is amazing and brings a “heft” to this song. But…. I like Anette singing this better. She gave me chills. I kind of don’t like the scooping that floor does but the more I’ve listened (I have this live album and the original) the less it bothers me. It does fit her style and there are times she doesn’t scoop so I know it’s a style choice and not that she has to do it. More adult metal Disney. I love it. The key change in this song is always what does it for me 🥰

Floor does a great job but it's hard to top near perfection. Every other one, however, Anette's versions pale in comparison. Even better, compare the two in an apples to apples situation and queue up Anette's live renditions. Live or not, you can't possibly be trying to argue that Olzon topped Jansen on Ghost River, 7 Days To The Wolves, The Poet and the Pendulum, I Want My Tears Back, Song Of Myself, Last Ride of the Day or Storytime.
I wonder when people will react to Nightwish songs with the singers who actually sang the original.. So many people have a hard dick over Floor Jansen, it's frightening🤷♂️ She's a good singer, for sure, but nothing on Tarja (original singer) Tara's voice is what made the band unique, now they're just a generic rock band. I've listened to all 3 and to me, Tarja's voice sounds like a razor blade to my ears, Annette sounds like a squeaky bathtub toy for kids, but Floor......Floor's voice is like a 155mm howitzer painted beautiful colors and wrapped with flowers. Such a beautiful, soothing, voice when she wants and powerful enough to blow you out of your chair when she wants. There's a reason "so many people have a hard dick over" her.
Interesting view.... I think all the singers have their awesomeness and hearing Floor's interpretation of their versions really brings out the individual uniqueness of the original performers, whilst adding new dimensions to the classic songs. You have a personal bias for Tarja and that's great but I would not say Nightwish are a generic rock band - far from it. The latest and last album has some complicated and unique elements not found in other bands. What would be interesting is to hear Tarja and Anette sing Floor's songs.... Tarja singing Pan... Annette singing Elan.... that would be a great test of your theory. Have a positive day.

Seems like you're in danger of being blinded by your own prejudice. If you think the departure of Tarja has made Nightwish into a generic rock band, it would seem that the compositional aspects of the underlying songs are completely passing you by. Tarja had/has a nice tone to her voice but the phrasing was not as natural as either Floor or Annette (if you listen properly, you'll notice that in common with many opera singers, there is a slight delay as Tarja full voice onset 'arrives' systematically late). Tarja is great for some songs but certainly not all.

Congratulations on your success my friend. This was one of Nightwish' big single releases from 2007. That is no worries. Tuomas is a big Disney fan. So many people have commented on this element in his compositions. Metal doesn't have to always be about anger and aggression.
The drummer for this show was Jukka. He had to retire due to migraines and insomnia. Kai took over in 2015.
It always amaze me that she is still at this point not the permanent singer of the band when this performance took place. You would say she was doing this for years. 🔥

Great to see a reaction to this one! It's not so common. This is one of their radio hits from the Annette era (which is why it sounds pop-y, as Floor comes close to Annette's take on the song here). I think it is their biggest radio hit? This one and Nemo. I love the crowd engagement in this one, the turn, the drop into the transition - most of the things you pointed out. I highly recommend Nemo from this show if you want to hear their other big radio hit (I love Nemo from this show), and Storytime! That's my favorite song from Floor and this show, and I am pretty sure you haven't done it!
I'm also going to recommend Empty Daydream, live from 2019, from Lovebites. Reason being, you've heard them, but I don't think you have done of of the "E" songs (Empty Daydream, Edge of the World, Epilogue). Those songs are really different. You get to hear Asami's R&B background, some more of Miyako on piano. In the case of Empty Daydream, I think it is the only one that you hear full-on vocal harmonies in play with backup vocals. It's amazing. Also, the lyrics have a structure and progression that I think is probably more common in rock and pop, and the song itself sounds almost like it was written and sung in the 80s. I think you'd enjoy it. It is one of my favorites from them.
Look at Tuomas when Floor engages the crowd in the middle of the song - around 7:08, he puts his hands on his head, as if to say.. omg! There is such a rush of power in that moment as the crowd becomes a lot louder!
Jukka Nevalainen had to step aside from performing in 2014 due to health issues caused by severe insomnia, but remains with the band in management. He called his friend ,Kai from Wintersun to take over. Jukka is more of a showman played Tama, Kai more of a technician plays Pearl.
The music video for this song is good if you want to hear 2nd lead singer, Swede Anette Olzon, who has more of a pop/rock style.
Wintersun is also where current nightwish bassist, Jukka Koskinen, came from. If you want to hear them, try Sons of Winter and Stars or Time , both from the live rehearsals at Sonic Pump Studios.
Hey, I think you’d really enjoy Battle Beast. They are a heavy/power metal band from Finland. Their lead singer Noora Louhimo has a very unique and powerful voice + the vibe of the whole band is just awesome.
I’d suggest their song “Where angels fear to fly”. It’s from their newest album Circus of Doom. They have a great music video for this song but I think they are even better live. The best quality live video of this performance is from Graspop 2022. (although they do have these RAW-live recordings which are professionally filmed but they are in a more casual setting) The Graspop video has the whole setlist but “Where angels fear to fly” starts at 18.30 and ends at 23.35. Hello again WrighteousJ and congrats on your rising success. Once again, I loved your reaction to Nightwish with Floor on lead vocals. Yes, this is one of their poppier songs but it is damn sure catchy and fun. I really enjoyed you commenting on the instrumentation with the keyboard sampling of brass inserted into the chorus repeat and also on the way Jukka is so demonstrative on drums. Fun to watch. And although Kai has a much different style, he is killer too. Loved it and hope to see you back with more of this soon.

Tuomas doesn’t use keyboard “samples” for the symphonic flourishes. He composes the orchestral backing which is recorded as played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. These backing tracks are then played for each song, with band playing over them. Pip Williams works closely with Tuomas on the orchestral arrangements.
He plays some orchestral sounds live with keys. Clearly not full orchestra but there are songs that doesn't use full orchestra.

the drunner is Jukka here, he had to step back with health problems, he suggested Kai took over the drum stool for the recording of Endless Forms Most Beautiful. The samples are actually the recordings of the choral and orchestral parts on the albums, mostly written by Tuomas. Amaranth is probably the most fun song from the Dark Passion Play album which has some very dark tracks
If you want to hear Nightwish use some serious brass check out Master Passion Greed! You have to listen to the studio version because they’ve never preformed it live.

This is one of the last concerts with Jukka. He had to stop recording the next album because of chronic insomnia and he asks his friend Kai to take over temporarily. He never returns and today works in the management of Nightwish.

Please keep going down Gabriels list. There are so many elements to Nightwish that changes the band completely that you've yet to be introduced to. And Gabriels list introduces them to you one by one. Right now you're shooting blind, and listening to other random comments directing you to other songs will diminish the joy you get from discovering the aspects one by one. Also it will prepare you properly for Poet and the Pendulum.
Listening and reacting to PP without being prepared will reduce the joy and emotion you get from it by at least 75%. Follow Gabriels list, and by the time you reach it we - the audience - will have explained everything and made you ready.

Amaranth is my favorite Nightwish song. Floor is amazing and brings a “heft” to this song. But…. I like Anette singing this better. She gave me chills. I kind of don’t like the scooping that floor does but the more I’ve listened (I have this live album and the original) the less it bothers me. It does fit her style and there are times she doesn’t scoop so I know it’s a style choice and not that she has to do it. More adult metal Disney. I love it. The key change in this song is always what does it for me 🥰
I prefer Anette too. Floor sings Tarja songs very well. Not so much Anette songs
@@walkawaycat431 This and Sahara are the only songs one could reasonably argue Floor didn't completely crush the recorded version of, and only because those songs are amazingly produced on the albums. Floor does a great job but it's hard to top near perfection. Every other one, however, Anette's versions pale in comparison. Even better, compare the two in an apples to apples situation and queue up Anette's live renditions. Live or not, you can't possibly be trying to argue that Olzon topped Jansen on Ghost River, 7 Days To The Wolves, The Poet and the Pendulum, I Want My Tears Back, Song Of Myself, Last Ride of the Day or Storytime.

I wonder when people will react to Nightwish songs with the singers who actually sang the original.. So many people have a hard dick over Floor Jansen, it's frightening🤷♂️ She's a good singer, for sure, but nothing on Tarja (original singer) Tara's voice is what made the band unique, now they're just a generic rock band. Even more so now, with Marco gone.
I've listened to all 3 and to me, Tarja's voice sounds like a razor blade to my ears, Annette sounds like a squeaky bathtub toy for kids, but Floor......Floor's voice is like a 155mm howitzer painted beautiful colors and wrapped with flowers. Such a beautiful, soothing, voice when she wants and powerful enough to blow you out of your chair when she wants.

Interesting view.... I think all the singers have their awesomeness and hearing Floor's interpretation of their versions really brings out the individual uniqueness of the original performers, whilst adding new dimensions to the classic songs. You have a personal bias for Tarja and that's great but I would not say Nightwish are a generic rock band - far from it. The latest and last album has some complicated and unique elements not found in other bands. What would be interesting is to hear Tarja and Anette sing Floor's songs.... Tarja singing Pan... Annette singing Elan.... that would be a great test of your theory. Have a positive day.

Seems like you're in danger of being blinded by your own prejudice. If you think the departure of Tarja has made Nightwish into a generic rock band, it would seem that the compositional aspects of the underlying songs are completely passing you by.
Tarja had/has a nice tone to her voice but the phrasing was not as natural as either Floor or Annette (if you listen properly, you'll notice that in common with many opera singers, there is a slight delay as Tarja full voice onset 'arrives' systematically late). Tarja is great for some songs but certainly not all.
Anette's version is better.
