- After doing nearly everything possible with the Generation 1 Pokemon games, I figured that there was really only one other thing I could do to put my skills to the test. Today we're going to find out how easily you can beat Pokemon Red and Blue Blindfolded. This video took a lot of time and effort to put together, so I'd really appreciate it if you shared this with a friend. If you have any suggestions for the next video, leave it in the comments below! Interestingly enough, I am blind and they have actually made a version of this game for the computer where they made objects make sounds and The computer tells me what’s on the screen so I can play.

@@j3_designs_426 Screen readers to read out the comments and a braille keyboard or touch-type muscle memory to type out the message.
To answer your question, I use something on my phone called voice over. It is a setting you turn on that will talk and read whatever is on the screen so I can type and use other apps on my phone easily. Also, to answer someone else, I am totally blind.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose? Anyone can beat a turn based game blindfolded if someone else help. It's not that big of a deal since it's not supposed to be a valid speedrun for a category but it still tarnish the accomplishment of finishing the run.
@@nigoulenoblehiboux9812 not really in this case, there were many times when chat was just outright wrong in their advice or John just didn’t know how to apply their advice, especially with the delay between the message and the donation actually going through
@@WooffleDee even then having a message is pretty much like peeking even if it didn't help that much I still think it's less impressive. He still clearly have and put a lot of effort into it but if I compare that to people that did the same thing on this and other games without any messages it's pretty meh
@@nigoulenoblehiboux9812 this is one of those things that’s really hard to show in the actual video but as someone who was there for basically the entire challenge chat really wasn’t much of a benefit as you think. For every helpful message there were about 10 troll messages and a lot of time Chat was just messing with John. John rarely ever actually listened to chat seriously because of this and it’s not like chat tried to backseat during the actual hard parts of the challenge
oh boy somebody still thinks any stream chats would be mostly helpful in 2021? if you have more than 5 viewers then it would mostly be messing with you
Seeing the eyes on the Pepe blindfold slowly open and close throughout the course of the challenge was the best part of this whole thing

This honestly went pretty well considering how the majority of his nuzlocke runs go.
Something about hearing TTS say 'Lord Conk' made me laugh out loud.
Playing Pokémon completely blind for over 20 years now, from generation 1 all the way up to generation 8, although it got harder from generation 6 onward. Memorizing all Pokémon and attack sounds was the main hobby for a huge part of my life. Nice to see the sighted person's perspective on playing a game the way I usually do things. Still learning alot (I never found the poison heal in Viridian Forest before :D). Continue your great videos, I'm enjoying them alot.

This challenge is probably the most impressive out of all of the ones ever done. Playing a full game with one single Pokémon is crazy hard depending on the one you use but not being able to see the game is on a whole new level which is mad cool that you beat the game

I know it’s minor compared to this challenge but this reminds me of the time I was playing Red (or Blue) while my dad was driving and it was dark. I had no light to see the screen so I had use my headphones to memorize the sound Pikachu made so I could hunt for it in the Viridian Forest. I found one after a while and was able to catch it.

This was so much fun to watch live. Even if I didn't get to watch most of it, I knew I'd see something absolutely absurd every time I checked in, and I was always entirely correct. Both the Pokémon Tower and Victory Road were especially hilarious because of chat, too, not just the fails.

Anyone else remember the OP Bellsprout that steamrolled Ashes Bulbasaur in the Indigo league? I'm starting to think that the Bellsprout tower hosts some sort of elite fight club run by CONK. Also you cant start your blindfold run with the first gen and not expect people to be chomping at the bit for some blindfolded crystal. This was dope, Can't wait for more! XD

m self focusing on 100% all the games and black 2 and diamond are the farest i have come in any games with only missing the battle towers, i have been searching for a while now (allmost 3 years) there is no really good guides for battle towers so would be nice with a vid or 2 on how to compelt the battle towers in the main line games
Hello. I have been watching your videos for a little while now. Well, to be more precious, listening. You see, I am actually blind. I have a fan of the Pokemon series for ab 13ish years now. You have no idea how much I appreciate you making this video/challenge. My point here is that everybody has seen how difficult it is to play a Pokemon game while blind. This needs to change. Accessiblity for disabilities should be considered more for video games. Please, reach out and spread the word.

As a kid I used to play some section blind at night with the old, lightless gameboy:) but I only knew the part until the 2nd badge, after that I wouldnt have had made it. Only specific sections

There is also a sort of Pokémon clone made for the blind called Manamon. It’s pretty cool and there are already two installments out and I’m pretty sure the creator is working on the third game.

this was actually streamed on the day i went to buy guilty gear strive and the video came out about 16 days after ggst and im glad to say theyre both incredible
7:30 this is an emulator error!! It's basically the same mechanic as the redbar glitch (sound effect cancels out other sound effect) but with incorrectly selected audio channels so it took out the square wave of the music! (I spend way too much time messing with game boy emulators, i can't let that a complete waste of time lol)
