Hamstring Tendonitis is a real pain in the butt. Here's what I've learned about getting rid of high Hamstring Tendonitis pain and helpful tips on how to heal your body and return to the sports you love.
Have you ever had dull, aching, pain in the butt? Pain right where the hamstring attaches to the butt muscle? You feel it when you walk, you definitely feel it when you bend forward, and the idea of running faster than a shuffle sounds almost impossible.
I've been there. High Hamstring Tendonitis. It's a major bummer. Major.
How to get rid of High Hamstring Tendonitis Pain If you have been dealing with this for an extended period of time, and still find no relief, talk to your doctor or physical therapist.
I am not a doctor, but have successfully overcome high Hamstring Tendonitis pain as well as helped many others heal from the condition through my work as a fitness professional. I share my story and what I've found helpful to give you insight and hope that you can heal from High Hamstring pain and return to the sports you love.
Unlike most injuries, you can not get over high Hamstring Tendonitis by resting. It actually takes a lot of work to physically change what is causing the issue. Get a support team of trusted health professionals to assist you in your healing process. Trust me: you and your body are worth the investment. But no matter what, remember that you must heal yourself. Everything and everyone that helps is just an “assist” to your body’s own healing capacity. For me healing from high Hamstring Tendonitis was a process of trial and error: noticing the exercises that helped get rid of pain (hello stability ball hamstring curls!) and noticing the exercises that caused pain (goodbye forward folds!). I encourage you to work slowly, listen to your body, and notice what helps you feel better and what you need to avoid to heal. I always say to my coaching clients, "you only have time to feel good"! So keep the exercises that work for you and avoid the ones that cause you to hurt!

I want to offer you a general menu of specific hamstring exercises that I found helpful in healing my hamstring and relieving pain. Consider adding this exercise video to your High Hamstring Tendonitis rehabilitation program. I believe if you do the following exercises once a day you’ll be able to bring some relief to those hamstrings.

Here's my experience. I got high hamstring tendinopathy about a year ago from too much stretching (i had another injury that required me to stretch). I didn't warm up properly and I overdid it. My most typical symptoms: after ten to 15 seconds of seating I had insane pain in my butt, I felt it walking upstairs, driving a car was insane, etc.. After a few months I started with the exercises (two legged bridge) which were pretty easy and didn't help me. I gave up after a few iterations. About a month ago I started reading a lot about how to get rid of it and part of it was stumbling on this video and some other websites. I decided to start working on my butt, hamstrings, hips and core. Long story short, I incorporated most of your exercises (one legged bridge, clam shells, front and supine planks, and side planks). I did them every other day and it probably took me an hour or so. After the first workout the pain moved to the bone behind my perineum but I didn't give up. After two more workouts I started feeling less pain sitting down. After a total of probably not more than 6 or 7 workout I can sit without pain for hours. I haven't ran yet, but it should be fine at this point. One leg bridge is MONEY. I altered it a little bit and basically made it longer. I do three sets of 12, I hold for 15seconds (15 actual seconds :D ) and then rest for 5 seconds. What I strive to achieve is intense pain in the butt that hurts like hell but that eventually helped me. The biggest mistake I did were the side planks that you showed. After probably 3 or 4 workouts my hips started to hurt quite a bit and the pain still hasn't gone away (after about 10 days) because I've kept doing one leg bridge. I've read it could take up to 12 weeks to heal all the way and I feel significant difference after 3 weeks. Anyway, thanks for helping me out with these exercises and good luck to everyone fighting this issue!

THIS WORKS! it’s been one year since I developed “the pain in the butt”. Hamstring tendonitis confirmed by ultrasound a few months later. I had very little tolerance for sitting more than a few minutes due to pain. I discovered this video (and Part 2) in May 2021 and have alternated the two routines every single day. Not only is the butt pain gone so are many of my sciatica symptoms AND I have developed a stronger core and butt than I have had in many years. No plans to stop using either of these excellent videos - they are a perfect addition to my daily exercise routine. Thank you Caroline!

I’m a fencer. I got my first high hamstring injury on my trails which was on July2018, I couldn’t even talk normally so I went to see a doctor and did what he told (daily exercise and 2months rest/no practice). But I had to participate another three tournaments (had recovered a little) I regretted for participation for I had another hamstring strain right at the exact place. So I’ve been taking proper rest form January and I’ve done the therapy, daily exercise but still I can’t sit for too long.
I’m really glad to find your video, I did with you and indeed my butt was burning and by the last exercise I feel numbness so I stop for today. Will try doing this twice a day. I really hope and pray this will work cause I really need to go back in practice hall for my mom I really need.
One thing I really wanna know, I’m going for cycling 3 times a week about only 4-5kms. And my mom is saying to check out if I can do jogging a bit will that be fine???? Please do reply, I really need your help.

You saved me here! I started a new exercise regimen and WAY overdid the forward stretches and squats. Then, when the pain arrived, I thought I just needed to do more of them to “loosen up.” Terrible plan! After a Google search I found your page and this video. Immediate relief and significant overall improvement in less than a day. Thank you!

I think you hit the nail on the head with your article and video. This injury has been slowly escalating for me over the last 1.5 years. It's too the point where I can drive about 10 minutes, after that I'm very uncomfortable. I'm waiting to get into PT this week, but I thought I might as well try something else since yoga was making it worse. I felt better immediately after the first of work out. Thank you and well done!

This routine is so very helpful for issues with high hamstring pain. It is such a hard area to heal. And stretching actually does not help this area at all. Thank you Caroline for helping me so much. I have had persistent high hamstring pain - what I finally found out was tendonitis - affecting flexibility and strength. I always thought it was the hamstrings themselves - so I worked directly on them, but came to a wall. This set of simple exercises I have been doing for only 2 weeks and the change is REMARKABLE! Most of the pain when walking is gone, the pain when sitting is gone. This workout works wonders.

Thank you .. I had noticed after starting running again the pain in my butt .. I made enquiries with a sports masseuse who wasn't awful helpful and he said it was something different. I wasn't convinced so started trawling the internet and finally stumbled on your page and exercise guide. I then found this today. Absolute burn but welcomed. I did note that the side that has the injury was much stiffer but at least now I am heading in the right direction .. thank you Caroline from across the pond .. 😁

A simple routine, but yet so effective! I recently started doing yoga and ended up overstretching (overconfidence takes you nowhere, should've learned better), and now anytime I try squatting or bring my knee to my chest my under butt muscle hurts badly. The pain is very distinct. However, these exercises have been helping me a lot. I just started doing them since yesterday, and I can tell you that I already feel my glutes and my core getting stronger. You are a blessing, couldn't be more grateful🙏

❤❤❤ these exercises and have added them to my daily regimen. Starting to feel better already. Not too much length and stress is a very important point. My stride has always been too long, too much stress on the hamstring origin - I'm going to conciously change that from now on. I really love and appreciate your positivity. It's infectious! 😁😁😁

Hello… Thank you for this video I hurt myself at a very young age doing the splits and never went to the doctor not realizing how bad the tear was … In my adult years every time I would run I would pull my hamstring and it would take months and months to stop hurting but it never did heal. This has caused a lack of performance with Mayeye weightlifting routine… I just recently hurt my hamstring again climbing the walls on the tough mudder… it has just been six days since my last injury and of course if it is interfering with my goals LOL… I will make a great effort to do these exercises every day. I appreciate you sharing your experience and what has helped in your healing

Thank you for this Caroline. After a week of pain sitting and sleeping I was nervous about attempting the moves as I’m 60 and not terribly fit. I needn’t have worried though as straightaway the feedback I got from my body confirmed that this was what I needed to be doing. I rested for a couple of minutes before getting up from the mat at the end and that helped things settle and now afterwards I’m more flexible and feeling the benefit. I hope to persevere and will feedback in a month or so and let you know how I get on

I shall start this tomorrow. You have described exactly my pain. I have restarted yoga after many years during the lockdown in the UK thinking I was doing the right thing. My left butt is very painful. I will keep you posted. Thanks so much

You're amazing Caroline Jordan! I have been going to physical therapists for years and they always help at first, but the pain and strength loss always came back. And I would go home and do the PT exercises -- but they never really seemed to do anything but alleviate the pain for a short while. But everytime I watch one of your videos, much of my pain goes away and I LEARN a lot about strengthening my muscles. Thank you so much!

Please do more full workouts for people with hamstring tendinitis! I have it in both hamstrings, inside tendon and the back tendon and I’ve had this injury for almost five years after being a marathon runner.
I would love a routine where I can accompany these leg moves with some push ups and or ab moves to allow me to feel like I’m actually working out again.
    Thanks for all you do!

I've been experiencing this pain for about a year now. I mentioned it to my chiropractor and family doctor. Neither one offered helpful advice or told me what it was. I'm so grateful for this video. Your videos have helped me with several injuries; I wish I had checked your channel sooner! I thought I was going crazy. Thank you so much. I look forward to getting this issue resolved. Caroline, you make a real difference in this world. I hope you know that. Thank you!

I'm a runner and increased my mileage too much too soon. I was diagnosed with HHT over 4 months ago and my PT had me do numerous lunges which made the situation worse. I've scrapped her exercises and now do this video along with your new lower body workout and can finally feel targeted relief. I have no idea how long I'll suffer with this injury, but your videos will help.
