  • A Scrambler can scramble, right? If a bike is called a "Scrambler" it's reasonable to think it can go off-road, so for the lols I decided to take my long term loaner Sinnis Scrambler down one of my favourite green lanes - how did it do??? Stay tuned to find out!

    "Will I make it" ? Brilliant ! Just goes to show you don't need a Dakar style or expensive adventure bike to bring the kid out in you. You sure did "Scramble" up that hill. Well done

      They certainly are, this one, besides that loose side stand screw, has been great fun....the British Winter next and a bit of early morning commuting I think....always great to have you along, thanks for watching!

    Everything considered, nicely done Sir. As you alluded to, tyres (then weight, then suspension / engine) are priorities for off-roading. Any bike with the wrong tyres would struggle. Best advice I ever had was to gain momentum needed to get over the obstacle/gradient before you reach it. Stopping at the foot of a hill is asking for problems!

      Sounds like good advice...I'll remember that!

    I love the UK so much. The greenery I know is quite a substantial part to it's character but man, it always seems understated how green it is. I wish to someday visit and just see a winter up in the countryside, or travel through the Northern part of the country. Talk about beauty. Over here in the US we have similar scenery but it doesn't seem to fit that characteristic. We either have complete urbanization or vast swaths of wild land. But this seems to be a perfect mesh. The overcast is beautiful, etc. All complimented by a bike that, though Italian, seems to have found it's natural habitat. Great video yet again TMF!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cheers John, you almost make the UK sound quite nice! Give me sunshine and less greenery any day!! Or is it a case of "the grass is always greener?". The bike is a Chinese import by the way, great fun for this sort of lark too.....

    • @VoLCoMzYaDiGG
      @VoLCoMzYaDiGG 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Haha Im sure the sunshine helps a lot, especially when dealing with that sort of mud. I didn't even know it was a Chinese export. interesting to find out. I've never been much a fan of the cafe style bike. Don't even own a bike yet but after watching your 390 Duke vid im hoping that'll be my first.

      Don't just visit the north, the British Isles as a whole have some mental scenery, especially Scotland, Wales, the Peak District, the Lake District, Oxford/Buckingham/Berkshire, and central Ireland.
      - I know the Irish would be pissed being called a part of the British Isles, but that's the geographic name for these islands since the Roman Empire...

    Pity about the starting issue and stand fitment but they seemed a straight forward fix, otherwise the bike looked after you well and did itself proud. Impressed you didn't face plant in the mud. Thanks again TMF.

      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Colin, actually that loose stand screw (which was easily fixed when I got home) is so far the only issue I've had with the bike and I've been riding it now for about 3 months.....winter is coming of course!

    What a laugh. Well done! I liked the way you frightened it so much at the thought of going off road that it wouldn't start. Poor little 125, you should be ashamed of yourself....Sooooo now you've set the precedent which is next to get the green lane treatment - the Triumph or Ducati scrambler LOL.

    Mr.Flyer, I used the GoPro cameras for several years shooting video off of motorcycles and could never get stable enough video to satisfy my OCD. The post image stabilization quality of shaky video also drove me batty with the fuzzy margins and croping. Last year I switched to the Sony FDR-x3000 camera with Sony's optical image stabilization (ie Steady Shot). I havent used a GoPro since the first time I used the Sony. There is no need to stabilize the video in post, it is just smooth as silk. The video quality is every bit as good as the GoPro. I do have to bump the color saturation and contrast a bit is post to suit me but there is no comparison in video quality the Sony produces. All the GoPro accessories work with the Sony so there is no need to buy any of that again. You can check out some of the video from the Sony compared to the GoPro on my Chanel if you like. All my 2017 Colorado/Utah trip footage is was shot on the Sony. All the 2016 and earlier videos where shot on a GoPro Hero4. If you havent tried the Sony you might want to give it consideration...I am a long time subscriber...love your stuff....Ozarks Backroads...

    Did you ever get problems with walkers or cyclists off road? When i was driving on a green lane (gravel) with a rented BMW NineT Scrambler for the first and only time, i already had a discussion with an angry dog owner who wanted to block my way. And it was only about 400m, connecting two roads, no signs. I was driving very slowly, no hooning or reving the engine. Really want to buy a scrambler, but there seems to be no point here in Germany. Better stick to Superbikes and drive down the autobahn with 300km/h, makes much more sense here. xD Maybe its better in the UK. ;-) Is it legal over there?

Reminded me of Capt Cook, Dr Livingstone and the Everest Expedition of 1953. At one stage I feared your mummified remains would be found years later at the bottom of a muddy puddle. Great stuff TMF. Hmm, high level exhausts are notorious thigh burners and usually more for looks than purpose. I marshalled trials for a while, back then a number of riders had low level pipes because they got burnt so often. A low level system will have sufficient clearance for recreational off road use.
    The trick on an Enfield is to disconnect the wretched side stand switch, the Sinnis is probably wired the same way - find the connector box.

      OldManTony I still do with my 110 underbone. Theyre not much more than a bicycle with a motor, skinny all-purpose tires. They were and are made under the assumption of bad roads. Ive explored where there are only maybe mountain bikers and armored-and-logo'd-up enduro guys around. Ironically, a super cub's skinny tires are better offroad in most situations than "scrambler" fat tires, and is more offroad capable than some "adventure" motorcycles.

    Excellent - brought back happy memories of my teenage years on mopeds using them in the woods around Buckinghamshire before everyone started fencing off their land and getting snotty about trespassers. You'd be amazed where a Yamaha FS1E can take you if you put your mind to it. Incidentally, my other half is a second-mortgage-mounted and jodhpur-wearing miscreant and she has advised me that when I'm out cycling (yes, I'm a MAMIL...) and passing horses I should let them know I am there before passing - engine noise per se (loud pipes aside) doesn't upset the horses too much but something suddenly appearing without warning can make them go bonkers. So don't cut the engine for too long otherwise you might get more than you bargained for!

    Nice video TMF, Hmmm so quite a capable little beast then? Not surprising really I guess, but if I remember right from my years as a tyre fitter, the unknown brand Chinese tyres are usually made by Cheng Shin or Maxxis, both of who are well trusted brands on smaller bikes at the very least. Enjoyed this one, keep them coming, RSM8

    "c'mon boy you can do it." Now that's the spirit! Well done.
    One of the worst things about that kind of riding on regular bikes is the pegs. Mud and rubber pegs don't mix. Especially when you're standing up on the bike. It's a great way to prepare for getting kicked in the nuts though.

    I had a Sinnis Trackstar and despite being a fun little runaround, the aftercare from Sinnis was so abysmal I’ve forgotten about most of the good times I had on the bike. 7 weeks for a throttle cable, 4 weeks for a choke lever and very little interest in helping me from the staff. They just pointed me to a generic Chinese spares website despite the bike being under warranty. I went to Yamaha, they didn’t miss a beat. Massive potential for the company but they just don’t seem bothered after they’ve got your cash.

      Have had same problem if sinnis (China moto) ect want to be taken seriously in moto market they need to lay the distribution parts & service infrastructure & all that 3 year warranty is codswallop.

    Not off to a good start hahah, I think it was trying to tell you that it really didn't want to go off-road.
    Well done Sinnis, it did well in the end. I imagine it's not a bad little bike for a bit of light green laning and must be light and easy enough to pick up.
    You left out the part about Captain Rambunctious successfully green laning on his old Thruxton but failed when he tried it on the Tiger 😝

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ...did he fail on the Tiger? I must have missed that one, oops! ...and yes the Sinnis is super-light compared to say your Scrambler (which I reckon I'd drop if I tried on this green lane)...you at the NEC next week??

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheMissendenFlyer Oh yes, he gave it a go on the Tiger but I think the conditions were against him. It was quite bad if I remember. There is a video somewhere.
      Yes, my Scrambler wouldn’t cope with that mud. The rest of it should be okay.
      I plan on going NEC on the last Sunday

    Great vid! That mud never shows like a big deal on-screen but it's like riding on marbles. Love the idea of this little bike - especially when I get bored of manhandling & picking the 700 up after dropping it in the mud. Do more of these (buy lots of bike cleaner) great! Interesting tires too ...

  • @petelyden8193
    @petelyden8193 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    A good honest vid:) I think you stress yourself out too much, let the bike do the work! Thru' muddy sections get your bum as far back on the seat as poss....it gives better grip for the rear wheel and lightens the front so it doesn't bog down. You can use your balance to steer thru' long muddy sections which eases the tension on your arms. Just my two penny's worth.

    I have a Bullit Hero, this bike may well have a lithium battery like mine. In which case the battery has to 'warm up' when you turn the key dont instantly start it up. If you leave the headlight on for max 1 minute that should be sufficient enough to start the bike. I struggled to figure out why mine wouldnt start sometimes and because its a lithium battery. Also they cant be trickle charged so be careful.

      Yes it's not as easy as the pros make it look is it! ...especially in the UK where normally you're wading through thick mud - dry stuff or dusty tracks are a walk in the park in comparison!

      I'm up in York, theres a few lanes around here but sadly the majority of them are closed to vehicles. There's only 1 close to me that you can actually ride down, but its only about 100 yards long. I did learn about a few "other routes with public access" tracks that you can ride down though which sort of broadened the off-roading spectrum a bit.

    Congrats TMF, I enjoyed this video and you conquered the mountain. Having started my riding life on a BSA Bantam I have a particular interest to see how todays 125 may perform. Be encouraged as best as the Go-Pro showed you chose your lines well and showed the Sinnis to it's advantage. I won't be buying one however as obviously there is no tool kit under the seat. I'll go for the Honda.
