Cats do this. They escalate or de-escalate how alive the prey the bring is according to your reaction to it. If you freak out and “pounce” on it they think you are finally learning to hunt and bring you something slightly more mobile/alive each time.
I mean, if we offered the seal some fried chicken, I'm sure it would try it. Seal sees you and tries to feed you, no thanks? Sounds pretty selfish if you ask me
You are fortunate that she did not see you as an easy meal…divers don’t look much different than seals…perhaps she could scent you, and like most wildlife, then know “human.” Here in Alaska, some predators don’t differentiate…the would eat you immediately.
