ON THE ROAD TO TEXAS (RV TRAVEL EP 93)

  • We love TX and for good reason. RV parks with full hook-ups everywhere you look, large wide open space and diesel at every station. But more importantly, everyone seems to be so polite and friendly. This is a state we’re impressed with every time we visit. In this episode, we made our way to Mineola, TX through Amarillo. For those of you that live or know about Amarillo…yes, we missed so much! We didn’t know about the word famous RV museum or the 72 ounce steak at Big Tex until we left. However, we were being pushed by family to arrive as soon as possible for a family reunion dinner. So we’re not sure we could have given Amarillo the time it deserves. We need to save some places to visit on the next pass.

Tip #1 ~ Have a couple small rubber floor mats handy, put these down first then those little plastic things won't move on ya, they dig right into the rubber. Had the same problem at anchor down rv resort in Tennessee, beautiful place.

    • @geemoe3064
      @geemoe3064 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

if the rubber mat not handy - try using 3 blocks on each wheel for the 2 high blocking. 2 high all at once can be too much at once.

You and your family are, in my opinion, the cream of the crop of RV video's. I smile more watching your site than any other. I also watch Nomadic Fanatic and LOLOHO. I am in Tampa area at Spanish Main resort for 2 years letting my heart recupe from fibulation. I continue my travels through you folks. Thank you ever so much.

You guys are just fun and funny! “I think I’ll do a walk around” 😂 Fantastic editing. You make this whole TH-cam thing look very easy (and I know it isn’t). The bit with Caleb in the backseat was just too funny. Hollywood (or maybe Broadway) is waiting for him. Your channel is way better than anything on TV. Thanks for all the inspiration as I gear up to launch into RV full-timing 🤗💕🌞🌲🚌

Get a 2X6 boards and paint them with Rubber paints for the leveling blocks so that they won't slip.

I've had so much trouble with those hi-tech plastic leveling blocks like you did that I carry some pressure-treated "patio decking" when I'm on hard pavement. On grass/gravel the plastic works fine, but I've pushed those things down the pavement just like you did, and it's not fun. . . . Enjoyed the video, as always!

Welcome to Texas. We came down in our 5er in 2013 and somewhere around the 2nd day, I said I am never leaving! :). Lately I've been in the Dallas area but it's March Madness so I'm in Austin (SXSW just started btw) while he's immersed in b-ball in Dallas. 😉. Just a hint from us, get the Flying J Good Sam's card so you can fill and pay at the pumps and don't have to go in and give the credit card and guess how much fuel to pay for and then get reimbursed like you do at Loves. I was so happy to find out about that when we were in WI. OH, and definitely stop at Buc-ee's. You HAVE to experience one while down here! There's one over by TMS that is brand new. There's a nice size one in Temple and Bastrop east of Austin. They're all over. Might head over to the book depository. Give yourself at least half a day there! And Southfork Ranch in Parker. And you have great timing because the bluebonnets are just starting to bloom. The state flower and they don't last long but boy are they show along the highway as your driving! Enjoy time here. :)

Hey we stayed at the Oasis last September. Nice, clean little RV park. Also, when we need to go 2 high with those yellow levelers, we put 2 down beside each other, then put one on top in the middle, locking the bottom 2 together. That way you are sort of building a ramp up to the 2 high part. Works for us, never had a problem with them scooting. We've been full timing since June '17 and love it. Love watching your videos!

Come to San Antonio and visit our Lone Star Brewery - it's the National Beer of Texas!!
Interesting fact; it was built in 1884 & was the first large mechanized brewery in Texas. Adolphus Busch, of Anheuser-Busch, founded it along with a group of San Antonio businessmen.
Bet you could have lived your whole life without needing to know this... LOL

May I suggest Anderson Camper Levelers 3604. We used them with our 2009 Keystone Cougar. When we upgraded to our 2017 Cougar 30rli, it came with an auto leveling system. LOVE it! ❤️ The layout of our new camper is similar to yours but we don’t have the bunks. Enjoy Texas!!

Just be sure to get it at the truck pump, it's only a couple dollars a gallon, as opposed to $13+ for the 2 gallon jug they sell inside. And remember, if you buy a hug to keep as extra in the truck, they do expire. DEF will start growing mold after so old.

Love your family. They are so fun.
Our driving through Texas story. It's Christmas time, we're going from California to Florida on I10. We are listening carefully to the weather, I even have my Weather Radio on, we're supposed to stop at El Paso for the night and they announce a MAJOR Ice Storm going through Central Texas. We stop for a bathroom break and the wind is so strong, we have problems opening the door. We cancel the El Paso reservations and make new ones for Houston. We're driving in a 1994 Ford Escort wagon, these cars are light, even fully loaded. We white knuckle it to Houston, through high winds and driving rain.
And we're glad we did, I10 was closed due to ice in the El Paso area. We kept on going to Jupiter, Florida, because that weather was behind us.

Been following your vlogs since mid way through season one. I have a recommendation for you. If you don't already use it, I HIGHLY recommend RainX for all your window exteriors. It makes driving so much better and safer when it's raining. They also make a product called No Fog for application to the interior of your windows.

    • @KeepYourDaydream
      @KeepYourDaydream  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Just a little f.Y.I.. I have found that a lot of truck washes for big rigs will wash an R.V. also. They can be found near many truck stops and sometimes inside a truck stop. Blue Beacon is one name that comes to mind. I am a retired over the road truck driver myself so I have a bit of experience with them. I am also preparing for my own R.V. adventure's. I am starting out on the 6th of April to travel and see this great country of ours that I have driven past for so many years now. I hope to see y'all on the road someday. DEF is a mixture of (typically) 2/3 deionized water and 1/3 urea. It's carefully regulated by the American Petroleum Institute. Technically, urea is derived from one of the byproducts of urine. But it's synthetically made, so no cats are ever harmed in the production of the fluid.24 Apr 2014
Didn't know what DEF is, I do now. A lot of cats must be grateful it's synthetically made. 😊

Let me know who you use and how you like them. I have used a good one in Arlington about $120 for my 40 ft and one in Pilot Point around Denton that was about $70. I'm always on the lookout for a good one. :)

Great video. I'm from TX. Now living in LA, CA with wife, 3 kids and another due at any moment (we're 2 days past due, lol) My wife and I are currently shopping for a 5th wheel toyhauler. May end up going with the Carbon 357 and tow with an F-250.
Your videos are entertaining and inspirational. Thanks :o)
Curious question, you ever think about using something like the Bal Products 28010 X-Chock? Not sure if you have used them before so I am looking for some experience feedback.

Are you guys aware of change with FMCA (Family Motorcoach Assoc) , they recently opened membership to 5th wheels and trailers. I mention this because of the fantastic Verizon deal they offer as part of membership - 25GB unlimited with a jet pack for 49.95 /month, after 25GB it reduces but 25GB is all at full high speed.

Welcome to Texas. A ton of Host Harvest there. Let me say, Llama Farm. One child off to college, two more to go. Most people are excited, but I did not want my kids to leave. I adore them and our time together, until, I see how they are flourishing and I get to visit my stuff, since when we sold the house, they got first dibs on everything.
Wait, Trish cooked in a Walmart parking lot, does the new rig have a generator?
Blue Beacon Truck Wash or Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wash & Wax so you can wash with the slides out. Most RV parks will let you wash on site or hook to hose cleaner such as 30 minute outdoor cleaner, which is an amazing product for the awnings!
I love the shrink wrap idea!

Hey guys! Lovel your vlogs! BTW, we're Texans living in the Nashville area... Just watched you Texas video and have a suggestion... Listen to it in our Toyota Tundra. It has a subwoofer... Just the stock stereo system... If you can you might want to pull the eq down on 100hrz and below on the audio in the truck and on the road audio... Lots!!!! of rumble!!! :) Again, great job! You and some others have inspired us to get quickly to the place where we can hit the road... Blessings! Ron & Shirley

We just rolled in from TX last night. It was.....okay. We did Houston (Space Center) and then San Antonio-area. San Antonio was so packed with people it was hard to enjoy. Traveling in TX was okay: we have an older diesel, so those new-fangled, large nozzles don't work, but we still found fuel easily (love Love's). Drivers are polite (not the same in every state). Mixed luck with the KOAs we stayed at (Houston was good, San Antonio was only decent....not a great part of town). Ended up having to overnight in DFW at Cowtown RV park, which ended up being a pleasant surprise. Had a medical issue to deal with the required a trip to the ER.......that stunk, but not TX's fault. The most unfortunate incident: our window in the upper bedroom (5th wheel) somehow came open (it's an emergency exit window) and got ripped off the camper when a semi's stack caught it and finding a replacement is evidently the equivalent of searching for the holy grail. Also not TX's fault, but the overall experience left us with a bitter aftertaste.
The new rig is looking good!

I love Flying J the best... because they cater to RV's at most locations. We normally use a truck wash on long trips with the 5th Wheel or check at the campground office for an RV Wash service... LOL I am playing "catch up" with your videos... Thanks for sharing them and Save Travels!

  • @jeffreyeinkorn

Hey guys, love the videos. I'm in the process of watching them all, in order from day 1, while watching the news ones each week. I had been to every state by the time I was 14 with my parents traveling in an RV, and I'm currently a over the road truck driver, and about getting tired of living "the American dream" and thinking about just doing an estate auction and hitting the road with my family. But I though maybe I'd share a few suggestions...
Truck wash: check out the "Blue Beacon" app.
Yes its a so called "truck wash" but they will wash ANYTHING. And they will wash anything you ask. Such as say the underbody after running through snow and salt, or the motor. Just each thing has a price. Oh, and NEVER let them use "acid wash" on the rims. Yes they will sparkle like new, but only for a short time. The acid slowly eats away at the aluminum. Best thing about Blue Beacon though, they have a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. If they did a crappy job, they will rewash it as many times as needed until your happy with it, free of charge and no questions asked.
With Tori going to school and also having family members around the country, check out "Life360". Its kind of like find my friends on your iPhone, but 10 times better. I've been using it for about 7 years without any issues. Its free, and it works on both Android and iPhone.
Free money: if you haven't already, get the free rewards card from each of the big brand truck stops. Pilot/Flying J are the only one that have RV specific cards because they have RV fuel islands, water fill, and also dump stations. But the rest are all the same for truckers and RV'ers. Just always use the truck fuel islands, and for each gallon you pump you get 1 point, which equals 1 penny, and if you choose to not use your points when making an in store purchase, but still scan it, you get points for whatever you buy also. It adds up, even if only a little. And that money can be used for anything in the store, the restaurant, and even the tire shop. You even get hundreds of extra points of you use the tire shop for repairs or need to request a road call... Each truck stop has its own app as well. I prefer the Love's, which you can plan a route and see what all the fuel prices are song the whole route to plan or the cheapest stops. Just ask for the rewards card at the diesel desk/cashier. They are all 100% FREE.
I hope to meet you guys some day. My wife and kids are exited to get out there, we just have to work out the details. Be safe!

Don’t know if you’ve ever heard of them but you should look into Andersen Camper levelers. While I personally don’t RV, they look REALLY efficient for those that do. Personally, I have no idea how people buy the yellow blocks when that system looks like it makes leveling SOOOO much easier, but hey I’m on the outside lookin in...

If you're headed back thru the TX panhandle, detour thru Canadian, TX. Great sites by the county fairgrounds for $20/ night. Quiet, lots of trees and grass. W&E only but easy access dump station. We've been the times and never more than the campers there. Capacity is like 20. Make sure the rodeo's not on though as it'll fill then.
Eat at Cattlemen's Exchange. Not too pricey and really good.

We've stayed four times at Oasis over last two years on our trips west. Great RV Stop. Big Texan Resturant, Amarillo is tourist stop but food is good. We use Blue Beacon Truck Wash to keep our coach clean all across country. Runs about $50 to $60 for 34 foot Motorhome. They do good job no matter what state we've been in. Located close to Truck Stops. I have seen Trailers and. 5th wheels being washed at their sites. Truckers have always been respectful to us when we are in line. My wife and I love your vids.

I am so glad you guys love Texas. I fell in love with Texas on my first business trip down here in 1981. Then I moved my family down here in Dec. 1982. Texas has been home ever since then and I love it more now than ever. You need to come back to Texas and spend a whole season and even then you wouldn't scratch the surface. My all time favorite place is The Big Bend National Park, you guys would love it. Later, Paul

I'm a subscriber of your channel and I live in Amarillo. Stanley Marsh 3, (Cadillac ranch guy) was seriously one weird dude. We call weird stuff here "some Stanley Marsh sh**." lol He died in 2014, but in 2013 he was indicted by a Texas grand jury in Potter County for the alleged sexual assault of two teenagers between 2010 and 2011. He was charged with four counts of sexual assault of a child, eight counts of sexual performance by a child, and two counts of indecency with a child. The thing about living in Amarillo is everyone knows us for the Cadillac ranch, and the big steak joint. LOL!

No video allowed!!! NO.... You need a spy camera! I used to be irritated when I pay to get in and don't have the memories I want. Since I have bought eyeglasses with a camera in them, I get the video I want and they never know. My set only cost $60 and does what "I need". However, it isn't TH-cam quality, but I am sure you could find a set that is, so you never have to worry about "No Video Allowed" again.

We drove from Canada to Arizona in December and our rig looked like it had been on the bottom of the ocean! We stopped at a Blue Beacon in Texas and got an amazing service both in quality and price. The truck rig and bikes looked like new in under 20mins!! You don’t even get our of your vehicle except to pay which from memory was around $50 and well worth it.

"Woman sits here... Man sits here. Man sits... No seat heater." So true ! (Well, unless it's -20Celsius... Then a seat heater for a rather chilly leather seat is quite relieving. Otherwise seat heaters just feel like... well... like you've just relieved yourself !)
