I love his other song too, If I Had A Rocket Launcher. The Barenaked Ladies also do a great cover of this song. Bruce has so many poignant, insightful, thoughtful songs; an intellectual writer.
U2 quotes him in their song, God II, "I heard a singer on the radio, late last night. He said he's gonna kick the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight." I still laugh about that because I stumped my friend who was a huge U2 fan when that song was released by asking which Canadian artist (my friend & I are Canadian) was quoted by U2 on their album Rattle & Hum. He couldn't believe I beat him on some U2 trivia.
His name is pronounced-Co- burn. The ch is silent. This Canadian 🇨🇦 thx you. He’s one of our treasures! Harri, do ‘Wondering Where the Lions Are’ you’ll love it! Also If A Tree’
Not retired, I saw him last year. He just put out an album, "O Sun O Moon" in 2023. You've heard a couple of his muscle-y rockers, next I suggest listening to one or more of his acoustic songs. As has been said here, "Wondering Where the Lions Are" was a radio hit back in 1979, a bouncy song with a reggae feel; A really beautiful and delicate song you might like, if you're in the mood for beautiful and delicate, is "Bone in My Ear" from 1994's Dart to the Heart, or "Whole Night Sky" from 1996's The Charity of Night.
From Bruce's 1984 album, " Stealing Fire" an album that explores war, politics and social justice. This is a more optimistic, hopeful track that celebrated the power of love to overcome adversity. This is one of his most enduring and popular tracks with a catch melody and upbeat tempo with Bruce's great storytelling vocals. This timeless classic, which has inspired countless covers, remixes and reinterpretation. Next hopefully we'll hear Wondering Where The Lions Are or False River, a lovely song with a 3 minute acoustic solo, while the band jams on a single chord. Bruce is a Canadian Superstar. 🇨🇦 Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Andre. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I’m late getting here, but really happy you chose Bruce Cockburn. I think he’s brilliant and one of best guitarists I’ve ever heard. Wondering Where the Lions Are is definitely a lyrical gift. ❤🇨🇦
Saw Bruce at the Pella, Iowa Opera House. Intimate venue with seating for about 200. It was just Bruce and his guitars onstage with no backup band. Mesmerizing performance from one of my favourite artists.
Saw Bruce last year it’s my fourth concert of his ,I will never stop loving the man . Cafe society one of my favourites( of the new stuff) . He is Like a fine wine ,and always right on point ,with what’s happening in the world yeh ! he’s got a view point ! and he knows how to deliver the message with some fantastic wit ,words ,wisdom ,and wonderfully sounds . He’s a Canadian master .
He's recorded over 30 albums and is still recording and touring (solo!) in his late 70's. He plays in many 'lanes'. Check out "Stolen Land", "Call It Democracy", "See How I Miss You", "Tokyo", "Tibetan Side Of Town", "Pacing The Cage", and "Child Of The Wind" (not all have music videos) ... I could go on and on. He's amazing.
I've been a Cockburn fan for around fifty years now, and he's written and recorded so many great songs through his career. "Dialogue With the Devil" is probably still my favourite by him, but "Pacing the Cage" and "Closer to the Light" are a couple more very powerful songs from his catalogue.
That line is even better than you think… gotta kick AT the darkness (not ‘out’)… which implies a sense of futility but still doing it in hopes of bleeding daylight.
Why has nobody mentioned his biggest hit in Canada ? " Where the lion sleeps " . Saw him live in Calgary about 20 years ago. He comes out just himself and a guitar . I was blown away at the man's talent. He would thump on the guitar as drums, the result was so amazing.
You're right Harri, great lyricist. I love both of his songs you reacted to. Give Midge Ure's "Dear God" a try. I think you'll really like it. You're hitting some of the great songs others are missing.
Great Canadian singer / songwriter / poet and humanitarian. Love all his work! He is not as well known as Leonard Cohen but I think he, although extremely different in style and content from Cohen, is equally as gifted. Love his song, 'Wondering Where the Lions Are". Thanks
Try "the whole night sky". It's become a song I connect to loved ones passing, but a beautiful song. Also "the coming rains". No real reason, beyond it's a nice song, especially if you have a "rainy day songs" list. Edit: I wrote this before you said current music of his. These are both newer songs, but not real new. Edit edit: how could I forget? Try "pacing the cage". If you've heard Stevie Wonder's visions, it's a song like that. Not sounds like it or similar musically, but a song that gets you in your own head
Hey Harri, would you like to react on a band called Skunk Anansie. I heard them at a festival in 2011. They were playing "Weak" when he'll broke loose. Skin, the lead singer was almost blown of stage. I hope you can react a one of their numbers. Weak, Secretly, Charlie big Patato, Hedonisme. Already thanks RJ
Bruce Cockburn (co-burn) is an fingerpicking guitar virtuoso as well as being an amazing song writer. He is a Canadian treasure.

Bruce has composed very clever lyrics. "If a Tree Falls" is another great song of him.

Goodness, I just thought about how many decades I've listened to him. ALast I heard was Bone On Bone, has he put out anything since then?
More importantly the CK is silent
Bruce Cockburn is brilliant, look at his discography. He's never the same old same old, so varied and talented.
Brilliant songwriter/poet. He has an amazing catalogue of work going back 40 years.

The Barenaked Ladies do a really good cover of this song. It was one of their first songs they released.
Those Cockburns are a gifted tribe. Love his "If I Had a Rocket Launcher" too. Gonna go see your reaction now.

Love this guy and one of my favourite songs by him. A true Canadian also, thank you André and Harri Best.
Like Gordon, we all loved him, too.
Bruce is a great guitar player as well as vocalist.
For more Bruce, consider checking out "Wondering Where the Lions are" - his first big hit.
Glad your finally getting to this song by Bruce. Last name pronounced "Ko-Burn"
Bruce Cockburn is a music legend and over songs to listen to include, "Wondering Where The Lions Are", "If A Tree Falls", "Waiting For A Miracle".

Gotta kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight! Keeps me alive.

I think you mean "Wondering Where the Lions Are."
His song Waiting for a Miracle is nice
Very talented guitarist also. Love him.
Thanks for reviewing! First reaction I’ve seen of this, I like the live acoustic versions he’s done of this in recent years.
Bruce continues to record and perform.
You're right Harri, great lyricist. I love both of his songs you reacted to. Give Midge Ure's "Dear God" a try. I think you'll really like it. You're hitting some of the great songs others are missing.
Im a big Bruce Coburn fan. The only song that was a minor hit here in Australia was Wondering Where The Lions Are. Recommended.
Oh Sun/Oh Moon Released by Bruce in 2023.
Great Canadian singer / songwriter / poet and humanitarian. Love all his work! He is not as well known as Leonard Cohen but I think he, although extremely different in style and content from Cohen, is equally as gifted. Love his song, 'Wondering Where the Lions Are".
Thanks
He is still touring. He will be in Italy in March and then he has tour dates in the USA and Canada starting in April.
You should listen to the studio version of " Wondering Where The Lions Are." No fooling. 😊
You’re my favourite reactor Harry. You really take it all in and give us your thoughts in a humble, thoughtful manner.
Dancers are with the National Ballet of Canada
I like this version fine enough, but his live acoustic is slowed down and yet powerful.
I wonder where the lions are - My fav from him
The Barenaked Ladies do a good cover of this one
Listen to If A Tree Falls by him!
Try "the whole night sky". It's become a song I connect to loved ones passing, but a beautiful song.

Hey Harri thanks for the Bruce Cockburn, however it's pronounced "Co-burn".
It would be more appropriate if you reviewed, The coldest Night of the Year. It's -12 near Torontp.

I know it's silly to say Cockburn, but it's pronounced Cobern.
Cockburn is pronounced…..” Co….burn “
