David Alvarez plays Bernardo in the 2021 film version of "West Side Story." Here he is on Broadway in 2008, performing "Electricity" in the second act of "Billy Elliot."
He won/shared the Tony award for Best Actor in a Musical for “Billy Elliot” with the 2 other boys that took turns portraying the lead character (because of child labor laws).
Aside from Tom Holland, who went on to Spiderman, and Liam Mower, who went on to be a principal with Matthew Bourne, and now David Alvarez, have any other "Billys" gone on to major careers in theater? They are all amazing talents.
Don’t forget Jamie Bell, the original Billy Elliott from the movie. He’s had a nice film career. Not a huge star, but he’s been working consistently and recently (playing Bernie Taupin in Rocketman, for instance).
He's definitely an angry Billy. Just yesterday I was reading an article about Greg Jbara, who plays the Dad here, and his 7 stone weight loss (bravo!) and it listed his credits as Billy Missy Elliot - The Musical haha
Yeah, he’s so good in West Side Story I had to look this up to see him. I can see why Spielberg went through the trouble to find him in Mexico. Amazing talent.
@@themusica1 Actually it was the casting director Cindy Tolan who remembered seeing him onstage and tracked him down. He's great in West Side Story - I wish he had gotten more to do, but Bernardo is a relatively small role. It would be nice to see him do a leading role now, as an adult, in a musical that really showcases his talents. He's also a really good actor, in addition to his amazing dance skills.
David wasn't my Billy when I saw the show on Broadway-- that honor went to Kiril Kulish, whom I saw 3 weeks before his departure from the role -- however, on that same night, he _was_ my Tall Boy/Posh Boy, and I think that's pretty damn cool!
Forever hoping that you realize the Heathers bootleg or at least post candy store. Imagine having a full musical that practically a whole community is looking for lol
I'm sure this has been said thousands of times before, but I have to say it: kids who play this role are not human.
pretty much
...The role is only what the performer makes of it...
LOVE him as Bernardo. He is so powerful in that role!!
He was mesmerising as Bernardo, his presence and energy, he dances with every part of his being. ❤
i was lucky to see him in the role. cried from start to finish. he and the show were brilliant.
Wow. What an emotive performance and incredible dance skill. Best Billy I've seen. What a star he is.
Wow. That finish! Stunning!
Saw him twice - he was fantastic! Thank you for posting Spiderwoman!
Awesome! missed seeing David on Broadway, although I did get to see his compatriot Trent. But glad I got to see this!
