    Adam!! I am 58 and just found your amazing video--I love your relaxed and funny style!! I wish I had done a lot more hiking especially as i did a bit in my 20's. I will be starting my walk on June 15th next year and turning off onto the Coast to Coast to Richmond and getting the train back to Norfolk. What was your milage and which shoes do you recommend?? I look forward to more of your videos!!

      @justgetoutthereguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul thanks so much for your kind comments! Boots wise just make sure they are waterproof and importantly - comfortable. you can spend a fortune, but I limit my boots to around the £100 level, but they are very important -and you get wot u pay for! As for mileage, no great numbers but roughly 15- 18 miles per day... But filming my hikes does slow me down!! I have been laying a bit low of late sadly, but hope to get some more content up again soon - thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Hope you get to Hike some miles in 23 - ATB - Adam 👍

      @@justgetoutthereguy Thanks Adam I will soon be ordering a lot of what you suggest. I am thinking of not doing the boots thing but going the lightweight hiking shoes that will get wet and dry out overnight. What do you think? Boots are so damn heavy and im not a youngun like you lol

    • @justgetoutthereguy
      @justgetoutthereguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulhease1007 Well I am not that far behind at 56!! I personally cringe at the prospect of any kind of wet feet. A lot depends on where you are hiking - but The Pennine way for example has lots & lots of boggy areas - and let's face it, rain is never far away - If you are serious about distance hiking, I still recommend boots over shoes - many a time my feet have sunk and the boot has been enveloped in thick boggy mud, so often I have been so thankful for the waterproof capabilities, if I had been wearing hiking shoes... it would have made for a long uncomfortable onwards hike... And there is such a choice of boots out there, including lighter weighted boots. All the best - Adam

    Thanks for posting the video. I watched your excellent Edale to Crowden video. My wife and I walked the Pennine Way last August/September. We weren't camping (at 65 and 63 we deserve a bit of comfort), but we were carrying all of our gear and staying in hostels along the way. The Pennine Way is a tough walk and we found the first two days very challenging. We have done a lot of trail walks in this country and abroad, but our first day from Edale to Crowden was probably the toughest hike we have ever experienced. The weather was appalling, with high winds, pouring rain and low visibility. Bleaklow is indeed well named! I'm sure it looks fine in the sun, but in the wind and rain and near the end of a very tough day, it was really grim. At least we had a warm bed for the night! I recognised where you camped for the night and have to admire your stamina and fortitude. We wouldn't have survived it, but we are considering a less extreme wild camping experience and found your video very informative. Thank you.

    Thanks for the video. Lots of good info there, so thanks for sharing.
    Your tent, nice choice, but as you say a little heavy. Just an idea, but have you thought about a pyramid tent, where you use a walking pole as the centre support? They are really spacious and can come in around 1.5kg. You can use the fly as a tarp on its own should you wish. EBay has them direct from China, around the £35 mark. I tried one and yes, it is waterproof, but then gave it a quick Fabsil coating to make sure. Swap out the pegs for better ones, like msr ground hogs and you're good to go. Tag some 8 inches of para-cord on the stake loops, so the fly can be raised more. No condensation either. Maybe worth a look.
    All the best and good walking.

    That hat is a blast! I haven’t seen the three in ones before. What’s a whitener? Really enjoyed the food segment- Where did you get the bags that you boiled the pasta in? Do you rewash them or throw them out? I can imagine your pack is really still heavy, but some items are probably mandatory there- such as the giant wind screen. Yes, you’re right UL gear gets very expensive. Blisters- do you have sock liners? I wear Inginji toe sock liners under my wool socks and have not had a blister since! That campsite by the water was perfection! Thanks for a great video!

    • @justgetoutthereguy
      @justgetoutthereguy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! Whitener is just powdered milk for coffee - The bags are durable enough to wash out and use again (and again!!) And yes I am aware it is a heavy pack, I am sure I could further lighten it and no doubt I will in time. I did wear 2 pairs of socks, but I think they were just bad fitting boots! My recent trip through the wind and snow which you saw - No blisters! Thanks again for watching - Regards from across the pond!!

    Good pack summary you did there. It was casual and chatty, not trying to be pro, Which is the best way i think.
    The only bit i'd argue with is the plastic spork, i got through several of them getting to enthusiastic with a bit of chicken before i went titanium.
    Its a good one to add to ya Christmas/birthday list. if you do get one, stick a bit of bright coloured tape on it, they are so small and hard to spot on the ground.
    its interesting how just about 90% of everybody says have a 2 man tent, myself included. A 2 man is 1 man in comfort tent.
    If you wanna go totally die hard gram junkie light as is possible pack. Check a guy called 'Darwin on the trail' hes a bit kinda smug, i know every xxxxing thing about hiking. The trouble is he really does know everything. iv'e picked up a few tips from him.
    But onto more pressing matters, i got the Loch Grannock noted. But do you know anymore easy access by car wild camp spots on the west coast of Scotland? Me and a mate are gonna do the north coast 500 in a few weeks. but chances are we will be mainly on the west coast.
    Gary.

      @justgetoutthereguy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary - cheers mate - and fair point about the spork. That Christmas list is getting long already!! Glad it's not just me with the 2 man tent! It's all well & good moaning about the weight - but there is a clear kg I could lose lose straight away! But I went on a group wildcamp once & literally everyone was moaning about the lack of space in their one mans. I was quite smug & realised then - deffo sticking to the 2 man! I think you have told me before about Darwin? As I did check out his channel - and yes you got it bang on - He is so smug! However as you say - he does know his stuff, and yes I have taken a few tips from him! As for Scotland, yes Loch Grannoch was amazing - & if required you could technically drive there! But unfortunately, that is the only camp I have done up there - so cannot advise - Dying to get back up there, gotta be literally thousands of amazing spots - But have a great time Thanks for watching & comments All the best - Adam

    Very interesting Adam, always like seeing other peoples pack load outs. Do you take a battery pack charger, compass, map, any gps? As for the Bleaklow experience you have it spot on, I spend three days at a time on there Wild camping and walking completely off track in the moors, love it, yes I do have two big dogs but I still feel alone and at peace. The grouse, the wind on the tent, the dark nights , the planes flying over head lol, but the morning views are something you just can't explain. Once you have the bug then nothing will stop you.
