Hello, my name is Dr. A. E. Kersteter and I am a marine biologist who also happens to be a vet. You have an old dog who as you said is blind; I can see from his elbows that he is suffering from early signs of arthritis. So he is most likely is in some pain, you have no idea if he has suffered from being out and abused by passerby. Most likely that is part of the problem, the fact he was in such a state also tells me that he is frightened. Any animal, even us humans would lash out to try to protect ourselves, so I am not very surprised by his reaction. He should calm down once he is in a place he can feel safe and has someone who shows him love and kindness. Don’t lose hope! What you do is the most wonderful thing. Keep up the great job 👏.
I thought the same thing and that because of his age and size he suffers from hip dysplasia too.

It makes me so sad when people don’t treat their pets like family. This poor dog was probably loved at one time and doesn’t understand why his family doesn’t want him anymore. Thank you for all you do.

I nursed my old boy for a few years, I made him a promise that once I knew he was eventually feeling pain then and only then would I do the right thing for him. I had him for 20years 6months. He was my love. Broke my heart when I had to be with him at the end. Still think about him most days. Miss him so much. They are a huge part of a family. I loved him dearly. Yes he was deaf, and blind with Arthritis in his back legs towards the end he had no control over his motions so he had lots of baths. He still had a quality of life until.. 💜

I have blind miniature dachshund.
He is very old. He can't see so he barks just like this dog. Especially when he doesn't know where he is and doesn't know who is around.
I get a cataracts surgery on him and it helped a lot. DAMIEN You show such mercy and kindness to this dog. He might not understand what you did for him until he gets used to his new home. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.
I have a golden retriever she seven years old and I love her to bits and I wouldn’t change it for anything even if she was to go blind

This one really made me sad and I know you all must have been heartbroken. Who would just throw poor Lucky out like he was a piece of garbage. I could tell he was scared to death. This is the most disturbing video I’ve seen. I’m so heartbroken 💔. This owner is neglectful, heartless and cruel. Shame on him! This poor pitiful dog. He’s so terribly frightened. As a groomer myself this just hits me so hard. Ppl can be so cruel and neglectful. Its heartbreaking and awful. I just love that you give a new life to beautiful dogs!!💗🐶
Lucky is very Lucky he’s not going back to his owner. I do hope that someone can find it in their heart to give him a home and love him to his final days. Thank you for taking care of him, he needed your care so very desperately ❤️❤️

Been a shelter volunteer, I had to stop the video when I heard about the owner's attitude, common even here in California! Thank you Mr Damjan and both ladies for your resilience in getting the matting and ticks off, Damjan was only doing what the owner should have done long ago! The dog is scared and not socialized and I hate owners that neglect their animals!

Long haired and double coated dogs get out of control very quickly. I have a Great Pyrenees who can get pretty knotted in just a few days. I brush and brush and brush but still need to do undercoat removal with his bathtimes. He won't let me go into his ears so the vet has to treat a few times a year. He is totally worth all the trouble but I would think an older person or a really busy person would not be able to keep up. Thank you for all of your hard work with these pitiable, neglected souls. You can always see a difference in their spirit when you are done. You are both so kind.
That's why I wish people would research the dog breeds and understand the maintenance they require to stay clean, happy, and healthy. I think it is a travesty that Pulis and Komondors are trained to have neat dreadlocks for dog shows because people think their hair naturally forms that way. As is evident by so many of the dogs Damjan grooms, it doesn't. I had a Golden Retriever that had to be brushed almost daily. He also liked to be vacuumed (made vacuuming the rug a real challenge when he'd jump in front of it and flop down on his back with his legs up in the air ready for his "groom"). Their undercoat is almost like cotton that can just be pulled out.

One can hear Lucky's fear in both the barks and cries. Thank you for staying the course and getting the medications. He will be feeling better in a short while.
Thats just how blinds dogs can get. They have to be more aggressive to survive. I had a blind dog and he was so gentle before he lost his sight then he became grumpy and growled at everyone and even snapped his teeth. He would never bite it was more just for show. But we kept him until he passed.

We had a dog whose eyesight was poor in his older years. (German shepherd mix who was almost 17 years old when he died). I use to go outside with a flashlight when he went out for night time potty...
I would LITERALLY get his attention with the light, and guide him into the house..sort of like they guide planes in at the airport. BAHAHAHAAA! Dang I miss my Balou...
BTW...I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE MEGADEATH!! I LITERALLY had Sweating Bullets in my head for the last 2 days...BAHAHAHAAA!

Feel sorry in my heart for this poor dog. Obviously the owner had no time or love for him. He would not be in this state if he was cared for. I hope he finds someone who will give him time and attention so that he can trust in humans and that he will heal physically and mentally. Thank you for all that you do for animals in need.
You did everything you could, and sometimes that all you can do. You both are angels taking care of animals like you do and for that, I am grateful that we still have humanity in this world.

10 years old - he's got a good 5 more years, once the medical treatments are done the new owners are going to love him. One big thing with a Blind dog is to talk to him a lot, and try to leave his wiskers on his face. lots of noisy toys are also good.
I hope so, but his is a larger dog, and they don't live as long. I hope he finds a great final home.
Good suggestion about keeping his whiskers on, they will help him with getting around, just like a cat!👍😊
A blind dog needs his whiskers, as do all dogs. I don't know why they ate shaved off during grooming, other than convenience for the groomer.

This was heartbreaking. Why do people buy Hungarian Pulis when they don't have the knowledge of how to look after their needs? His owner should be thoroughly ashamed of himself but I doubt he has a conscience. You all did your very best to help him on his way to a happier life. I actually think because of his size that he is a Komondor aka a Hungarian sheep dog. They are like a bigger version of the Puli.
I know what Komondors are and you may well be right. I was only trying to make the point that he, or any dog, should never be found in this condition. It's shameful but the owners just don't seem to care!
That was a tough one. I just hate hearing you sound so defeated - you must know that you are making his life so much better. The adjustment must be so hard, but you are giving him a chance that he didn't have on the street. You all have amazing hearts. Thank you for doing what you do.

Shame on that owner. My dog went blind but I still loved him. He knew the house & got around fine. Even when we traveled he was able to cope. (RIP sweet Trinket. 😔)

Poor dog, he's probably scared as he can't see and I bet he's never been groomed before. Hopefully once he realises he's safe he'll calm down.

Growing up, I knew an elderly lady who owned 5 dogs and one of them was completely blind. She said he was doing fine, could sniff his way around the house and yard. Apparently his favourite 'treat' was a cup of tea, served in a nice cup and saucer, with milk and sugar!
I just finished watching and I am crying my eyes out for this dog! The fear is so overwhelming! Imagine being old, sick, weak, blind and unable to know what’s happening! He feels like his only safe option is to fight against anything or anyone who comes near him or touches him. And that goes against the nature of a dog. What a horrible person his owner must be - he took a loving dog and created this situation. This is truly one lucky dog to have been saved and I hope he begins to get better and to feel better very soon. That and some quiet time with lots of food and water and loving words will go far toward putting him in a place where he can learn to trust people again. ♥️🌺♥️🐕🦺♥️🌺♥️

My dog started barking and growling, too, when Lucky started. I love old dogs, the grayer the face, the better, lol! Ours is 10 years old, too. Poor Lucky. Thank you for risking being bit to help him out. ❤️

I wondered if because of his size and age he has hip dysplasia and that's why he didn't like his hips and back legs touched. Glad they were able to sedate him and finish the job! Can't wait to see how he will look when he's healthier!

Poor guy! I have had many dogs that I loved and cared for well into double digits for the animal. Yea, the older they get they more medical issues they have. But always loved them from the moment they came into my life, until it was time to perform the last act of kindness when they were suffering. I stayed with them until their last heartbeat and breath. Even a dog doesn’t deserve to die alone!

Thanks for all the help and love you both gave him,he was obviously stressed out about everything around him.He hasn’t had much human contact and the previous owner didn’t even know or care he was blind and missing,his senses will be highly on scare because he hasn’t got a clue what is happening and hopefully now he will start to feel better mentally and physically.
Very challenging groom and you handled it with skill and compassion. I am looking forward to how it all turns out for the dog. You know, I have found that singing lullabys and music calms an anxious dog.
I was thinking the same thing but TH-cam is such a freak about copyright infringement with music that he'd have to play some classical tunes. I agree, music would help to calm and distract them. I always think Damjan's deep and soothing voice has a similar affect along with Sanja's sweet voice.

Nobody should _ever_ name an animal "Lucky" - that name just seems to invite trouble. This dog has many major challenges ahead of him. Thanks Damjan, Sania, and Gordana for giving him a chance. (Chance might be a better name for him.) I hope he makes it to a new home.
