  • I am asked very often about why I no longer swing like Moe or teach his swing so this video will address. Hopefully it will get rid of any confusion people may have. I tried learning and teaching the swing of moe norman for over 15 years, and finally gave up some years ago. This video gives the reasons why I no longer swing or teach Moe's swing.
Kirk recently proved how amazing the Setup 4 Impact swing is by winning the Senior division of the 2023 United States Golf Teachers Cup in Las Vegas with a score of 4 under par for 36 holes in difficult conditions, over a top field of USGTF certified golf instructors. He won by six shots, after finishing second over the past two years. It was mainly due to his simplified Setup 4 Impact golf swing and simple set of drills that anybody can learn to play their best possible golf.
I believe as an instructor that I should always work to make my instruction easier for each client to follow, and learn. With the ultimate goal being immediate improvement. That is what has lead me my entire career to improving what I do, which also means changing and evolving. My Setup 4 Impact method is a result of over 37 years of learning and evolving. I enjoy helping my clients play the best golf of their lives.
My Setup 4 Impact® golf method makes it easier to hit any golf shot. Simply setting up on your impact plane and then swinging on one single plane makes the game easier. I customize the simple concept to fit each individual golfer regardless of age, flexibility, and natural ability. I will help you improve faster than any other way. I have worked over 35 years in developing this simple golf swing method which can help anybody play better golf quickly. Many do better their next time out. Because it is easier to repeat it is also easier on the body. Putting less stress on the back, hips, and knees.

    ABOUT KIRK JUNGE
    -----------------------
Kirk Junge began playing golf at the age of 5. After a successful Junior Golf career, Kirk turned professional in 1986. He has played on the Dakotas Tour, the Teardrop Tour, the South Florida PGA and the SouthWest Ohio PGA where he captured one victory.
In the year 1996, Kirk began to teach the golf swing of Moe Norman, and shortly thereafter taught with the Natural Golf Corporation, where he stayed until 2005. During that time he was one of the top instructors and was responsible for answering over 3000 golf technique questions on the Natural Golf forum. He was a licensed instructor with the Graves Golf Academy from 2014 to 2016. Kirk also holds several other certifications with the United States Golf Teachers Federation, the World Golf Teachers Federation, and is a former PGA of Europe member.
After leaving Natural Golf, Kirk headed to Pforzheim, Germany where he ran his own Golf Academy until 2014.
In 2005, Kirk set his sights on creating a simpler golf swing, which led to the creation of Setup 4 Impact Golf. Using his 20+ years of golf instruction experience and his knowledge of the many different golf methods. Kirk has distilled golf knowledge from some of the best golf instructors in the world to create the Setup 4 Impact golf swing. His instructors included the likes of Wild Bill Melhorn, Jimmy Ballard, Terry Crouch, Artie McNickle, Chuck Hogan and Dave Pelz, and many more.
Kirk’s main goal is to help golfers improve their game as quickly as possible.
Kirk has taught golf for 35 years now. He has taught various golf methods including for Natural Golf Corporation, Single Axis golf, and the Graves Golf Academy. Kirk invented the Minimalist golf swing method which had you setup and swing on a single plane, which has evolved into his currently taught Setup 4 Impact swing which is the Ultimate golf swing because it is built to fit every golfer regardless of shape, size, age, or ability. The Setup4Impact golf swing very closely resembles the swing of Bryson DeChambeau who also sets up on his impact plane. Kirk's number one goal is to help you improve at golf.
Kirk Junge currently teaches his "Setup 4 Impact" swing full-time in West Palm Beach, Florida year round, as well as Cincinnati, Ohio, Reading, PA, and Sanford, NC a couple times per year. Other locations coming soon including California. More info at setup4impact.com/kirk-junge/

I am a person who has really struggled with golf, despite being a pretty good athlete in most sports. I swing left-handed but putt right handed. I use a single plane for driving, rotary swing for irons, and more like Jimmy ballard’s method for short irons/wedges. You have to find what maximizes your potential. Tough game. Never thought I’d ever legitimately break 100, but I managed to get into the low nineties. Still searching for the 80s.

Hi Kirk, thanks for this very nice video, full of humility and common sense. I'm 64, hcp 7.6 and have been swinging for over thirty years as a self-taught player, so your courageous take on this swing by genius Moe Norman doesn't surprise me. I've known the name Moe Norman for eight years thanks to a pro (from Shawn Clement's Wisdomingolf) Edouard Montaz, and I realized from watching Moe swing that what I was doing was instinctively natural and effective. I also know that the club is stronger than I am, and that to swing your weight effortlessly and painlessly, it helps to understand the club's architecture. Your help here is very interesting, you highlight the improvements we could make to what we do without starting from scratch. Your advice is invaluable and inspiring. I've just changed my standard grips for midsize ones, and it's a joy... It's hard for me to translate your lyrics on youtube, but I hope I get the gist of what you're trying to do. All ideas and aids that allow each of us to be in tune with ourselves are the best.

I use the single plane. I tried it once before and it didn't work for me because I was trying to copy Mo on every move. It didn't work and I went back to my old swing. Didn't take long for me to give the single plane another try. But this time I changed how far I set up from the ball. Brought the ball much closer to me and it's working much better. Stretched out like Mo I was either slicing or pull hooking. Mo was very short and very round. Being as far away from the ball as he was, worked for him but not for me. I agree with Kirk, some things have to be customized, especially the distance from your feet to the ball.

Wow. I worked out almost everything you were talking about for myself over the last few days (maybe weeks) at the range. I strengthened my grip to two knuckles (and went to jumbo grips). I narrowed my stance slightly and felt I could just get my hips through faster and steadier. I was worried I was too close to the ball but I hit it way better where I thought was 'quite' close. Stayed more upright which gave me way more consistency. This totally reinforces everything now, so thanks. I've been doing your ball striking drills for a few weeks, which are fantastic. I had to replace a few grips anyhow, but wasn't committed to the jumbo grip yet; went and changed driver, 3, uty. 2, and PW to start. They're really good. Rest of the bag is getting changed asap. Thanks again for all your great videos. I'm hitting it better than ever.

Great video. I reverse engineered a set up to impact position when I first started and agree with a lot of your points, especially the clubface to wrist position. I also use end range rotations on both arms and am customizing my grip size, hand grip positions and ulnar positions based on shot shape (strong = draw, weak = fade or straight) and specialty shots. I really appreciate your in-depth understanding of Bryson's swing as well as your own ability to customize to player. Thanks for this video. I switched to the single plane swing about 5 years ago and I feel my swing has improved, but I feel I've hit a wall for the past year. I can't seem to improve much beyond from being a bogey golfer. Moe's swing is unique to him. There's much value we can learn from Moe, but to really improve, I agree that I need to consider what swing is uniquely best for me too. Another thing I learned is that it's not just technique, it's physiology. When I first got into golfing, my natural swing was the same kind of swing as if I'm bringing down an axe to chop some wood. I was constantly swinging over the top and I still do frequently. My greatest challenge it seems is getting my body to "unlearn" this kind of movement. Anyways, I'll examine your other videos and see what I can learn.

Being ready to quit golf because of back pain related to hitting with my conventional swing (15 to 40 y.o then quit until 57 and then up to 65) I switched to Moe's method, professed to be "easier on the back". Unable to finish 18 without pain, needing pills and ice after, I can now play 36 in a day or practice before and/or after a round with no pain whatsoever. A Godsend and my handicap is still at 6 with (for a 69 y.o.) straight drives in the 235 - 250 yd distance. Master moves (Moe's or yours) notwithstanding, my sense of it is that knees work best when they are flexed, otherwise we would walk stiff-legged. Timing of the sequence of anyone's specific swing provides consistent results and that requires practice. Thanks for the video and your explanations. Very edifying.

    • @Setup4Impact
      @Setup4Impact  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, exactly. When we walk we put our weight on the bent leg and as we shift our weight forward to move that leg straightens as we shift onto the other leg which is bent, and then straightens….Need to go with natural movement to get the best of speed and accuracy. Keep it simple and enjoy the game.

Well, Moe's swing is unique and he makes it look so easy. Moe does get good hands-arms shoulder rotation and a full hip turn both ways by using a proper width stance for him to allow such; not too wide that would restrict such . Moe does get 'his' upper and lower body movements properly timed, working together to get to proper release at impact . With that said, your assertion & teaching method is absolutely correct that each person has their own 'natural' swing and simply needing to work on the fundamental things to get into a proper setup, etc. to then make their swing work for him / her . Golf on .... o __ !

It took me many years to get away from the idea that you can successfully copy any golf swing. Moe's was the most unorthodox swing ever to hit balls so straight, but lacked much power. Just start with the wrists uncocked and then fit everything to where you need to be at impact, then move naturally without restricting. The game is more fun and less work, plus results are better.

I favor Graves style ,he change from Moe slightly, and what really really works for me is ..I slip into the shoe earlier ..setting my left side instead of slipping into the shoe to brace it ..when I'm coming down.. and I really don't come down as much as I feel as I'm coming behind the ball.. so if you don't adapt the swing ..must be on you ..I never enjoyed or played better.. feel like I really control my swing..ton of confidence.and I'm hitting the ball better.. I'm 67 and hitting from the short tees yes... But my misses are straighter ..and I've gotten under the card.. if I've had a bad day I shot 76.. you're missing something in that swing..but I did play 6600 and shot 75 so it's all on you

Excellent video Kirk! I knew Moe, not as well as others but knew him. Hit many balls alongside him starting in 91 but was introduced properly through his inner close circle in 96. It was such a privilege to be around him. A kind soul and genius at his craft. I’m a PGA (Canada) guy like yourself and have given 10’s of thousands of hours of instruction. The thing Moe would always say was “do what feels right to you”. Back in those days he never believed anyone could or should do his swing which probably explains why none of the young amateurs or pros who knew him in southern Ontario attempted. I’m from Montreal so didn’t see him unless I was in a tournament in the Toronto area or went to visit. When I first saw him hit balls, I knew there was something there other than his talent and genius for figuring it out. Mechanically it made sense to me so I taught myself the swing. He was surprised when he first saw me do it. I played that way for about 3yrs and then went back to more traditional around 2000 and played great. My speed like everyone else who ages has recently dissipated slightly. The bigger problem however has been consistent ball striking (irons). On a whim I returned recently to Moe’s method and after 3 decades of teaching, I understand and perform other components better than in my younger days. Now I can perform Moe’s method quite well and have gained distance with far superior ball striking. However there other ways to get things done as you aptly state. Yesterday I played and was pretty bad actually, as I had been striping it for the last month. Hit 17 greens a couple of weeks ago and played 2 consecutive rounds without missing a fairway. Yesterday’s poor performance was the best thing that could have happened. Hit the range and figured out I was simply letting the trail foot come up too early which for me creates early extension and always has. Hence for me, Moe’s method is more efficient and provides distance with trail arm extension through impact. But that’s the thing…”do what feels right for you.” So yep there’s many ways to build a mousetrap. I’ve been able to break down Moe’s method into 4 easy steps and adjust them accordingly for people who wish to learn the key elements. The same for the “traditional” swing for a lack of better term. The thing is when it came to Moe, when he spoke it came across as hieroglyphics for many because he was not a teacher nor were most attending his clinics. I listened to him carefully and would ask questions. Everything was there that relates to any swing and that was the true genius of the man that is perhaps only understood by few IMO. Would be great to talk sometime about your individual journey with Moe’s move and moving away from it. Good stuff and apologies in advance for the long message. Cheers

For me the biggest downsides were the pain it created in my back and the loss of distance. It's a completely unathletic and unnatural movement. Moe was great at it - no doubt. But, for me, it just didn't work. But I'm thankful it got me over to Kirk's stuff.

Couldn't agree more. Moe was Moe and attempting to perfectly imitate him is pointless.
I've found, with my irons, if I take my normal swing, with the exception of starting in impact position and also starting the swing with the clubhead a foot or more behind the ball (while never taking my eyes off the ball during the swing), I've been striking it better than I ever have....and I'm 60.

So you had to find what worked for you on your own. But you want people to pay for your lessons to learn your swing or something similar for them to use? Sounds legit to me.

I teach each client the easiest way for them "individually" to swing a golf club based on how all great players have always moved a club through impact. Along with setting them in a way that makes it a lot easier to do. It is easy to follow step by step, and you will improve very quickly if you follow my directions. More at setup4impact.com/online/

Kirk you failed to mention that people watching videos of Moe will see TWO different swings, is he doing his own swing or demoing the "Natural Golf" swing that he did for years to make money. The "Natural Golf" swing is the palm grip and more down the line "Face the ball at impact" swing.

The early Moe swing was so much more dynamic and looked much more powerful. He took the club to parallel with an overlapping grip, and his right foot was not flat through impact.

Top 10 Reasons - I no longer swing like Moe. Number 11, I could never do what Moe did, he was unreal. I'm not as good at golf so do what I do. FFS 😂

Moe had a swing that fit him ! Develop your own swing 12" before impact is what it all boils down too. This is a fact ! Sorry Todd Graves.
