Thanks for this vid! One question about strawberry towers and refreshing soil. Should I take strawberry plants out of greenstalk, refresh the soil then replant? What would be your strategy?
Even strawberry plants tends to develop extensive root systems over the years, so I would do a complete refresh and replace every 2-3 years. If the soil has sunk in the pockets also, I would pull the plants up and fill up around them with fresh soil and some granular fertilizer. Just make sure not to cover the crown where the new growth emerges, or you will kill the plant!
@@mayasalter1624 so glad you liked it. It's really depends on what you expect the full size of the plant to be. I grow three micro tomatoes in one tier but if the variety is larger, I would grow just one. For peppers also if you are growing a smaller variety you can maybe grow three, for a larger variety maybe two. I'm assuming that you are planting in the original tier. For the leaf tier I do not recommend tomatoes and peppers
@@GreenLove1 Thank you for responding so quickly! I am dedicating one original GreenStalk to peppers and tomatoes. I am going to plant the peppers on the bottom tiers. The varieties I chose are supposed to be 2ft or less…in theory!😅 I chose micro-dwarf tomato varieties for the top tiers. I am going to plant edible flowers and herbs throughout the container to attract pollinators and help fight the pests I don’t want to see. LOL, I am buying enough quality potting soil! I am a relatively new gardener and this will be my first GreenStalk. Suggestions and advice are definitely welcome! Where did you buy your trellises
Those are Texas Tomato cages, look it up. Not cheap, I was fortunate to pick up some free giveaways on NextDoor
Wonderful video and terrific tips. Also, how many pepper plants or tomato plants would you advise to plant in each pocket?
Thank you.
