A little advice to all the young armys out there. Make bts and their story of success an inspiration not an obsession, focus on yourself too and find what you're passionate about and work hard to get. If bts gives you some emotional support, take advantage of that to improve and better yourself
Yes. Years ago I noticed a change in my then 13 y/o dd's behavior and responsibility level - for the better. She explained what I found later to be the Pied Piper lyrics - that bts didn't want her to be obsessed and to do her work and not beg for merch, etc...I was impressed.
I felt a break down because I think im not enough to become a army I think im just a regular fan,i cannot buy their official merchandise but some Army cannot afford too so I'm a Little sad because i think I'm not enought to be a Official army😔😔but I will still support BTS

Don't be upset. It doesn't matter how much money you spend on merch, it will never amount to how much you love and support the boys. I don't have a lot of merch and I'm going to my FIRST bts concert; that will never amount to how much I love and support them. Money doesn't justify love; love doesn't cost a thing. If you truly love and support the boys unconditionally, then you are a true Army.
merch is literally optional, the best way to support bts is buying their albums which is totally enough! please don't think you arent supporting them if u dont have every merch or dvd bought. i do have most of their merch tbh but it doesnt make me more of a fan than people who don't
Yeah I was definitely getting the almost elitist vibe from this. Its nice her parents are well-off they can afford to buy her stuff and give her allowance to buy stuff. In the end, I think ARMY know that BTS love anyone who gets value out of their music and I don't think they put any extra value in ARMY that pay for all that stuff compared to ones that just can afford their albums and such.

Don't know if it's 100% related, but does anyone else ever wonder "Do I like BTS because of their music or do I like them because of how they look through my screen?" and wonder if they would still like BTS if they weren't as good looking, famous, and polished (etc) as now? Because I do. I wonder that a lot... That's why I sometimes don't take fans of idols seriously since love is a crazy powerful emotion, and sometimes you don't even realize what you're doing because you're so blinded by the emotion.
Juicy Pear I think majority of the fans attracted to them because of their look,and cuteness at first if you count the magnae line as the most fans base. But to make them stand for years with loyalty,it also added their personality and talent. Hyung line fans mostly basic on their talent and personality before their look. But don't forget BTS also have plenty of fans which was older than most KPop fans demographic which stand them for their talent and personality. A fans is a fans either from KPop idol or celebrity or sport hero or political hero. Ordinary people can be a hero or idol of someone because something attractive to them,either look or talent or personality. There should be no discrimination against them because some of them even donate and doing charity works in behalf of their idol. I will never look down on someone devoted love to other if it make them happy.

When I say "Armys" I mean fans who love them for their music and talent plus their personalities which are amazing and so unique. The looks are just a minor plus. I personally love artists whose songs have meaningful lyrics and great songwriting and I found those in their music.
you should interview an international army BC it's wayy different. also it would be an interesting topic for a video to show how its different to be an int fan compared to a kfan. edit: int fans doesn't automatically mean western fans! it can be fans from other asian countries too. Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, India, Vietnam etc. South-East is also a big source of income for kpop! and honestly even if they did show western fans, it would still be related to an asian group. anyway just clearing things up!
yes lmfao! i am from europe and feel a bit different from her. I'm a fan since the end of 2015/begin 2016 and never felt that you are "a real army" if you have managed to get leveled up on fancafe. Merch also doesn't measure your love and support for them and i think going to extreme things like not going out just to save money isn't healthy at all. (bts wouldn't want that) Her reasons for liking bts (lyrics etc) are similar to my reasons for getting into bts but her view on being an army isn't the same at all.

Some comments are so dramatic lol, it's a culture in SK to have official fanclubs managed by the entertainment companies so it's not degrading the I armys as just regular fans. And I believe most get the membership to have better chances at getting tickets for muster, concerts, music shows and not just for the label. And now globally any army can get the army membership from weply. You just have to pay 30$ + shipping cost for this year's army membership and kit.
Kpop fans need to understand that fan culture in SK is different from International countries. In SK, fan-culture is surrounded by buying albums and streaming. In order to be considered as an official “Army” in SK, you need to buy albums or join the Daum fan-club, so that way you can support the boys. Or else, you are considered as a casual listener or fan there. In international countries, streaming is enough in order to show support for the boys. Probably the reason why is because, Kpop companies primarily focus on SK in terms of promoting their groups. (I don’t know how to explain, but I hope people understand this).

When she said "official army" it's actually true. Armys who are in the official fanclub are registered in bighit's army lists (I don't know how to call it lol) and they get hugeee advantages and privileges compared to "regular" army. She didn't want to say it to belittle armys who aren't in the official fanclub, she just used the word "official" to differentiate armys of the fanclub and other armys because the interviewer asked her to compare them. Also, she didn't just called fanclub armys "official" ones cause she wanted, that's literally how they're called by bighit. When u get the membership you even get a thing saying "Congrats ! you're now an official army!". What I'm trying to say is that it's really not that deep. We all know that every army supports bts but if there are people who are ready to do more things for them or who just can afford to do more things, well lucky them, u don't need to attack her for that. Hmmm...im just thinking of song pied piper as i watch this and think does bts want her to invest so much on them. Maybe they wanted to influence their fans in a different way. They probably appreciate the support, but they may not want to feel as if they are causing her to "waste" too much of her time. They may encourage fans to take care of themselves. I know there are fans who donate to organizations under bts' name. How wonderful is that!! Also skipping meals for a boy group compared to skipping meals for religion is not the same. Yeah, I agree with this but I'm not going to say what I think other people meant because I don't want to assume. When I first read the title, I thought "hmm this is very interesting", until the part where I heard about her skipping meals and school and I began to worry about her emotional, mental, and physical health. But I don't think there's anything wrong with the way she supports them because everyone supports they're favorite artists differently. There's no wrong way of supporting your favorite kpop idol or idols in general. Just make sure you take care of yourselves as well everyone!

I'm gonna be honest, I think it's good to cheer for a group and all, but I feel like she spends too much time admiring what others have done with their hard work and their talents than use that time to push herself forward and hone her won talents instead. All that time, she could have learned how to sing and dance instead of watching others sing and dance. Just my 2 cents.

Other than seeing the boys posts(which most times we get translated to us) there isn't a benefit to being an "official" army member as most perks occur in Korea. It would be nice if they did have like official international clubs for the countries where they toured and those members got first crack at concert tickets so that it's not like the hunger games.
Cookie WD Official armies usually have priority access to music shows. Not everyone can go see music shows easily. You gotta be official fans of idol groups

Ali There’s no such thing as official army for I-armys. It’s just a Korean thing and it’s needed. Otherwise, non-fans or haters can cause trouble. There used to be lots of incidents between idols and non-fans disguising as real fans.
I really don't understand why people don't get. What she said about being an Official ARMY is in the Korean context. Inside Korea, since they have these systems, fans won't be considered official ARMY unless you're registered. There's a reason why they have put official there. And K-Diamonds have thanked I-Lovelies thousand times on different occassions. What's this chaos for? But the questions were really such that it would make her look irrational. She did a great job in answering them and is quite mature. 💜
also its not like fanclub system is different outside of korea?? like in the US years ago there were official fanclubs where you had to pay to access too (i remember there was smth like this for jonas brothers years ago)
I'm a Korean army and I will say, I think we have a different fan culture than western or international fans do. But also remember that you don't need to buy merch to be a Army Just be there to support them!
My mom became interested in BTS a couple months after I got into them, and now she's a big fan of their music and their personalities. At first she just wanted to see what I was talking about all the time, but I'm so glad that she kept and open mind about it, it has really brought us closer :)
You can join fancafe and level up lol! I did it when I stanned them and my friend did it too and she bought official membership on top of it. Neither of us are Korean or live there.

But why? This whole channel is about bringing you news and trends from Asia. Yes, they can go to other countries in Asia, but they obviously wanted to show what is like being a fan of kpop in Korea. And you can look this up and it varies from group to group, but in Korea, the highest percentage of BTS concert goers is around Siru's age.

Asian boss do a lot of street interview regarding BTS but i think this is the first time (?) Yuju Waterbottle there’s a lot of way you can support your artists not only by buying their album. Streaming digitally also counted. It’s true that some should buy their album too but what I want to focus here is I just don’t want some army who can’t afford it to felt down. Everybody can play their own part. Then one who can afford physical album can go to the concert can buy merch then support our buys in that part. The one who can’t, can support digitally, keep streaming. Basically, we completed each other and it doesn’t make you any less army.

they have to do it, just in case there are fans or haters who pretend to be soldiers, the ranking proves how strong you are as a army, so you don't want to be an official fan just "I like him, I'm biased, then I'm a army", because at this time it can't be trusted, especially now that BTS is an international idol all over the world, everyone will be curious and they will love it, therefore this test is useful, therefore this test proves that you are a true force that supports anything from an idol whatever they choose, alias as their shield to protect their favorite icol group from competing with other idol groups ^^

Although it's beautiful to be following and be inspired by these artists and they make a lot of people motivated to achieve more. But there are so many people who are actually obsessed with them and that is not healthy. Being an army myself, I always tell my fellow armys- make them your inspiration. Not your obsession. Even if you don't have much merch, even if you don't get to go to their concert cause you can't afford it, you are still as much a fan as any of the people who do. You are still a true fan if you love them and aspire to be good people because of them.
Being obsessed with something is not a bad thing in itself. It only becomes bad if you let it affect your health or sanity. I'm obsessed with BTS, but it only adds to my life and makes me happier, and I still live a healthy balanced lifestyle

Wild Lotus I used to skip meals in high school just so I could save up for bts. Finally, when wings tour was announced I was able to pay for a $250+ ticket and had the best day of my life. Honestly, it’s worth it if it means doing something that will make you happy.

Hi, at first, my parents didn't support me to be a fan of a band. I have some tips for you guys. 1. Don't ask them to buy your merch. They Will think you spend money for nothing. I'm pretty sure you guys got some allowance. Collect it, spend it only for importance thing and the rest for merch. If they saw that you can save money for buying merch, I'm sure you can get their support little buy little. 2. If you are still a student, REMEMBER. BTS IS NOT NUMBER 1, study and socialize still number 1. You have to balance between study and fangirling. I used to get a bad score, but my parents use my favorite band as a gift. If i get a good score, they'll pay 50% from album's price. It gave me more spirit to study. And now i study even my parents didn't give me merch, bcs it became my gabut now. Eventually, i can get both merch and good score. Now i have 15 albums and a lot of merch (PC, post card, etc) Hope your parents can support you in the future !!!!! 💜 IG @Junghs3ok

Yeah the multifans would get so much hate in Korea. Do not, ever, show that you are a multifan in group events. The fandoms would tear you apart. If you love BTS and support them you're still an army. I go to one of the difficult schools in our city (even country) and I was surprised when I found out that that a lot of us are ARMYs! And this goes for both males and females in our class shdjdjdj. Some of them are aspiring physicians, lawyers, engineers and scientists. Our family is huge :))
It doesn't really matter if you're broke or rich or whatever. You're still the person and the ARMY that loves BTS. BTS will understand you and they're more than grateful to people listening to their music because they all started from scratch to gold. We should be proud of them.

Shamita Nutella I think there’s a difference between k-army and i-army. A lot of the benefits she’s talking about (for example: having priority entrance at BTS music appearances or seeing BTS in general) wouldn’t benefit i-army even if it was given to us. A lot of the things she’s talking about requires you to already be in Korea and most of us aren’t. So I’m still gonna call myself an ARMY regardless lol. Edit: I’d also like to mention the fact that fan hierarchy culture is probably secluded to South Korea alone. And probably even more centered to the fan cafe area. I don’t think i-army have to really worry about whether they’re legitimate fans or not. If you like BTS and support them in any way you can, whether it be simply watching their videos or singing their chant, *YOU ARE ARMY* :) Remember, it was because of our support that BTS got recognized internationally. Be proud of that fact.

Yes. Years ago I noticed a change in my then 13 y/o dd's behavior and responsibility level - for the better. She explained what I found later to be the Pied Piper lyrics - that bts didn't want her to be obsessed and to do her work and not beg for merch, etc...I was impressed.

Don't know if it's 100% related, but does anyone else ever wonder "Do I like BTS because of their music or do I like them because of how they look through my screen?" and wonder if they would still like BTS if they weren't as good looking, famous, and polished (etc) as now? But to make them stand for years with loyalty,it also added their personality and talent. Hyung line fans mostly basic on their talent and personality before their look. But don't forget BTS also have plenty of fans which was older than most KPop fans demographic which stand them for their talent and personality.
A fans is a fans either from KPop idol or celebrity or sport hero or political hero. Ordinary people can be a hero or idol of someone because something attractive to them,either look or talent or personality.
There should be no discrimination against them because some of them even donate and doing charity works in behalf of their idol.

Some comments are so dramatic lol, it's a culture in SK to have official fanclubs managed by the entertainment companies so it's not degrading the I armys as just regular fans. And I believe most get the membership to have better chances at getting tickets for muster, concerts, music shows and not just for the label.
And now globally any army can get the army membership from weply. You just have to pay 30$ + shipping cost for this year's army membership and kit.

Kpop fans need to understand that fan culture in SK is different from International countries. In SK, fan-culture is surrounded by buying albums and streaming. In order to be considered as an official “Army” in SK, you need to buy albums or join the Daum fan-club, so that way you can support the boys. Or else, you are considered as a casual listener or fan there. In international countries, streaming is enough in order to show support for the boys. Probably the reason why is because, Kpop companies primarily focus on SK in terms of promoting their groups. (I don’t know how to explain, but I hope people understand this).

Armys who are in the official fanclub are registered in bighit's army lists (I don't know how to call it lol) and they get hugeee advantages and privileges compared to "regular" army. She didn't want to say it to belittle armys who aren't in the official fanclub, she just used the word "official" to differentiate armys of the fanclub and other armys because the interviewer asked her to compare them. When I first read the title, I thought "hmm this is very interesting", until the part where I heard about her skipping meals and school and I began to worry about her emotional, mental, and physical health. I'm gonna be honest, I think it's good to cheer for a group and all, but I feel like she spends too much time admiring what others have done with their hard work and their talents than use that time to push herself forward and hone her won talents instead. All that time, she could have learned how to sing and dance instead of watching others sing and dance. Just my 2 cents.

It would be nice if they did have like official international clubs for the countries where they toured and those members got first crack at concert tickets so that it's not like the hunger games.

There’s no such thing as official army for I-armys. It’s just a Korean thing and it’s needed. Otherwise, non-fans or haters can cause trouble. There used to be lots of incidents between idols and non-fans disguising as real fans.

It’s true that some should buy their album too but what I want to focus here is I just don’t want some army who can’t afford it to felt down. Everybody can play their own part. Then one who can afford physical album can go to the concert can buy merch then support our buys in that part. The one who can’t, can support digitally, keep streaming. Basically, we completed each other and it doesn’t make you any less army.

Although it's beautiful to be following and be inspired by these artists and they make a lot of people motivated to achieve more. But there are so many people who are actually obsessed with them and that is not healthy. Being an army myself, I always tell my fellow armys- make them your inspiration. Not your obsession.
Even if you don't have much merch, even if you don't get to go to their concert cause you can't afford it, you are still as much a fan as any of the people who do. You are still a true fan if you love them and aspire to be good people because of them.

Wild Lotus I used to skip meals in high school just so I could save up for bts. Finally, when wings tour was announced I was able to pay for a $250+ ticket and had the best day of my life. Honestly, it’s worth it if it means doing something that will make you happy.

Hi, at first, my parents didn't support me to be a fan of a band. I have some tips for you guys.
1. Don't ask them to buy your merch. They Will think you spend money for nothing. I'm pretty sure you guys got some allowance. Collect it, spend it only for importance thing and the rest for merch. If they saw that you can save money for buying merch, I'm sure you can get their support little buy little.
2. If you are still a student, REMEMBER. BTS IS NOT NUMBER 1, study and socialize still number 1. You have to balance between study and fangirling. I used to get a bad score, but my parents use my favorite band as a gift. If i get a good score, they'll pay 50% from album's price. It gave me more spirit to study. And now i study even my parents didn't give me merch, bcs it became my gabut now. Eventually, i can get both merch and good score. Now i have 15 albums and a lot of merch (PC, post card, etc)

I go to one of the difficult schools in our city (even country) and I was surprised when I found out that that a lot of us are ARMYs! And this goes for both males and females in our class shdjdjdj. Some of them are aspiring physicians, lawyers, engineers and scientists. Our family is huge :))

I think there’s a difference between k-army and i-army. A lot of the benefits she’s talking about (for example: having priority entrance at BTS music appearances or seeing BTS in general) wouldn’t benefit
i-army even if it was given to us. A lot of the things she’s talking about requires you to already be in Korea and most of us aren’t. So I’m still gonna call myself an ARMY regardless lol.
Edit: I’d also like to mention the fact that fan hierarchy culture is probably secluded to South Korea alone. And probably even more centered to the fan cafe area. I don’t think i-army have to really worry about whether they’re legitimate fans or not. If you like BTS and support them in any way you can, whether it be simply watching their videos or singing their chant, *YOU ARE ARMY* :) Remember, it was because of our support that BTS got recognized internationally. Be proud of that fact.

It's actually sad there are many fans in this comment section thinking that not possesing everything BTS-related makes you less of a ARMY. Just you finding comfort in their music is more that enough and I think a lot of artists, not just them, can relate to it. Do you really think they care how much photocards of them you've collected? Absolutely no. Idolizing people always boggled my mind but who am I to judge. As long as she's happy and not crossing the line of pure devotion and obssession. Also, it's quite impressive for a 16-year-old to juggle between fan activites and school life.

You dont need to spend money to be an official army. You're an army when you love their music, appreciate their hardwork and support them all the time.
