I posted parts for this build that I found that should give better control over speed and also a coupler to make the build easier. I will try and do a follow up video on the new parts!

i FOUND a better way of building that rotor with less part i am using a pvc 1in compression cupplure
and it alot easyer to build and laess pices needed to cut

You should try and use self-fusing tape for the joints that do not move, it is incredibly weather and sun resistant and waterproof.

KK6USY, this is totally doable, and you did all the leg-work for everyone! Instant LIKE! I went straight over to Amazon and ordered everything in 5 minutes. Kind thanks for taking the time to post this. Great design and can be weatherproofed with some dielectric grease. I'm planning to use mine on a permanent outdoor Yagi for my scanner. Interesting build...and your follow-up. I've been pondering this homebrew rotor project for a couple of years but haven't made it a priority. I'm about to. I had saved an older 12v DeWalt reversible drill to salvage the motor, chuck and switch. You've given me some ideas on the coupler with a flange for the antenna mount. Nice channel! 73 de K4FMH

I like the video. Got a motor on order. Question : When the build is done, how waterproof is it. or dry days only.

Dry days, but thats not to say you couldn't make it more waterproof

im trying to make dish antenna rotate...can this type of motor support the 65cm dish...or is it only for light weight antenna?

    • @KK6USYHamRadioAdventures

You can try it I only use this portable, I don't leave it out in the weather all the time. The biggest antenna I have tried is a 6m hexbeam which is probably 3-5 pounds.

Use a cheap used 12v model train transformer like a Bachmann that has a speed knob and that can regulate the speed and direction. They are on ebay frequently for $10. Then you dont need the switch.
