    Michael. first thank you for the shoutout! Your antenna looks way better, looks like you almost took all the weight off the fishing poles. Your antenna should work great and it's nice that the Moxon's are so wide banded even if your off a little they seem to still be close enough. I should have a video out this week on a 3 element Moxon build I'm working on, might be a 2 part build.

    That's a great idea using the nylon line instead of pvc pipe. Not only lighter but looks a lot better. That Chuck guy is pretty smart.

      I tried using it 8 years ago on a loop yagi, but I don't claim to be the first. Only thing is that it might not hold up well in the sun. PETG filament is probably better.

    Baleing strapping is light cheap ,free and strong.. pop a hole in either end with a hole punch ...the plastic strapping to fix bales in factories etc..that's what I tried...usually comes in black and white hi hi

    Moxgen corrected my crisis as the other one was generating smaller than required. As far as center connect, keep center space at feed point as narrow as practical. MY 2/70 is under a half pound so far which works for my being unable to hold weight on left arm. Like the vireos.

    Thank you for mentioning the size of wire vs length. I always wondered about that.

    Looking good Michael. I had that issue with the feedpoint too. I slimmed it down much more and used a small length of RG316 with the SO239 on the end of that. It made all the difference. I also "constrain" my wires which makes setup easy and stops much of the movement of the poles. Upwards or downwards matters not apart apart from extra height.

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  ปีที่แล้ว

      The heaviest part of the center is the UHF connector. I could remove it and do a connection with bare wires from the coax, but that wouldn't look as neat (dare I say, amateurish?).

    Just a light weight thought for holding your wire at the ends of the pole spreaders. A zip tie pulled down to form a small loop and then the pigtail taped to the end of the pole. Excess can be cut off. They can also be pulled down snug on the wire to prevent slippage. QUESTION: Would window ladder line work to help prevent loss and reduce weight on the transmission line support? Thanks Micheal for all you do to help us learn.

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think feeding the antenna with window line would be an option as the Moxon is designed to have a 50 Ohm feedpoint match and window line is 450 ohms. You'd need to add some type transformer at the feed point and that would add weight.

    Great work and good luck with the deployment.
    I need one for 20m, but probably too big to make and too much height required to make it work.

    For the center isolator support, insert a dowel inside the PVC pipe to stiffen it.

    Consider also the velocity factor introduced by a coated wire. I multiply the length by 0.95 and everything works fine. Cheers W6LDM

      In my original video about the Moxon antenna I do talk about velocity factor and the need, for that reason, to shorten the wire. This was a followup video so I didn't delve into that. You can watch the first video here: th-cam.com/video/4ddtVW8HweM/w-d-xo.html

    Nicelly done Michael, this project is looking good. It's said you lose bandwidth with thinner wire. I will be interested to see if you find this is the case in real life. 73

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wire size can affect the bandwidth of the antenna. I'm not sure though if the losses are meaningful switching from 14ga to 20ga, especially on the HF bands. In switching to a thinner wire, the bandwidth on the meter looked pretty similar between the two wire sizes.

    Hi Michael, I wanted to ask how robust is the antenna to a change in SWR depending on where and how you set it up? I want to build one, but it will be mostly for portable use, so will the terrain etc, affect it a lot?

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've only used the antenna a couple of times as I built it specifically for Field Day. The SWR did change a bit in the 2nd deployment but not enough for me to be really concerned. I still ran it without a tuner or further adjustment. I'd have to use the antenna in a couple more situations before I can really say if it needs further adjustment or not.

    Would there be any noticeable differences between the wire guages?

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really don't think so. Theoretically bandwidth should be greater with a thicker wire, but on HF frequencies, the extra bandwidth you'd receive would be minimal. Thicker wire will have a higher power rating, so use 14ga if you are planning to run a kilowatt. Otherwise the thinner 20ga wire will still easily handle 100 watts.

    Do moxon antenna resonate on harmonics?

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Typically, no. the Moxon is a single band antenna. Some people have had luck getting to work on the antenna's harmonics, but it will be highly inefficient.
