Mike has always been one of my favorite drummers, and Disturbed is one of my favorite bands. Since I also play, I can say that I understand what Mike is doing, and believe me, his chops are better than people think. What impresses me the most is his ability to play odd things with his hands while keeping that steady beat with his double bass drums. That's not easy to do (example: "Another Way To Die"). Listen to it. You'll understand. Go Mike!
The thing that Mike does so well is the drum parts to the songs. His strength lies in his musicality, making tasteful and suiting drum parts to his band's songs. And that is what makes a good drummer in my book.
I wish people rather then being so judgemental about how basic some of it is, would look at the bigger picture! It's crowd pleasing and that's all that matters :) mikes done so many different drum solos and this was from the believe album tour. So around 10 years ago! So all those who are calling it "shit" need to open your eyes a bit , and realise it's about playing to the crowd not playing to the critics
This is a true musician. Sure it's not complex, because it doesn't NEED to be. Sometimes the SIMPLEST music is the BEST. AC/DC's drumming is VERY similar throughout their songs, but they are an INCREDIBLY successful and LOVED band. It doesn't matter if you can drum faster, drum louder, or whatever than Mike, it's the fact that he LOVES what he does, and people LOVE him. By the by, 'Blasting' is impressive, yes, but it's too much going on at once to handle. SLOW DOWN GUYS!
Unlike like other drummers who bang on their drums as fast as they can for their solos, Mike is very accurate in his playing which makes his solos sound really sick. Keep it up Mike!
mikey is one of most underrated metal drummers today. his beats are very simple and concise, he has great feet and hands, he is the phil rudd of metal drums! His drums sound so clean, I think I am going to switch to Evans Drumheads.
i remember this solo live when they played in ottawa in 09 best show ive have ever seen till this year when they came back with music as a weapon 5 tour
The thing I love about Disturbed is that they're metal but they don't feel the need to go insanelly fast. Don't get me wrong I love very fast metal, but they keep everything in a good rhythm. Love em.
A definate joy to listen to the little nuances he Applies within his riffs and the nice use of space, Unlike death metal. you can find a solid beat within all that syncopation. Peart is still the closest to buddy rich but wengren would be the new generations Peart.
Keep practicing. If you do it enough times you'll be able to do it in your sleep. Good luck! I also think Mike has one of the best studio engineers in the business. The sound of his drums is nothing short of awesome, especially his snare.
The reason why disturbed is so fucking good is because they actually put heart into their guitar and drum solos, its not just random shreading that makes no sense, each solo is specific to each song and only fits in that song. Dan Donegan (guitarist for disturbed) has said that every solo he writes means something to the song its in.... thats what makes disturbed great
@masterofhi50 Yah but best thing about Mikey is he is always improving! go thru his druming album by album and you can hear the difference! He is one very solid drmmer!
He is just amazing. If this is just a warm up, he must be pretty exhausted at the end of the concert. He has sweat dripping off him already. Gee, do any of you complaining about him play like that?
This is very good. I mean it's simple but it sounds really good. I hate that some drummers think fast means you're better. Like "Well I can double stroke role fast." Who cares? If you now how to double stroke then anyone can reach the fastest speed. TO ALL THE DRUMMER OUT THERE FAST DOESN'T MAKE YOU THE BEST. What he did here is a perfect example of a good drummer.
It pulls at such a core level. Crazy how heavy a sound they made with the slow tambour of his playing style. I figure it speaks alot to why there music always has the compulsion of a literal following. This is the rythm that teaches lessons.
You, my friend, are absolutely right. I like mostly only metal music, but Assaf Seewi for example, is my favourite drummer just 'cos he plays it from the soul. Mike is also one hell of a drummer. .\../ Disturbed makes me want to mosh everytime :p
favorites due to his ability, his ability to keep the beat perfectly and so on he is a slower drummer but there is a reason it works well for him like dans solos are slower but more soulful just like mikes drumming when i listen to it i actually hear emotion in it lol he is by far one of the greatest for a different reason than just playing really really fast plus this solo is amazing i was at this exact concert lol(:
what makes mike one of the better drummers out is there is a couple of things..........1. hes fucking the most solid drummer ive ever seen. He is the essence of what a drumer is supposed to be which is be the backbone of the band.2. He knows when to slow down and let dan take the lead but he also takes the lead at the right times and make it sound perfect. Plus everything he writes fits perfectly. 3. He fucking rapes the drums! This solo is amazing and very organized not just flailing his arms
Disturbed needs to come back from their extra long vacation; make a new album, and tour again! I wish I had seen them in concert when they had come to Portland Oregon last...my #1 favorite band.
i dont get why people say his drum solos suck..lol the whole point of it is for something different..to entertain not to mention the guys having so much fun lol not to mention the guy is a solid drummer. with some powerful ass beats.
its not about being the best, its about loving the music you play, a drummer has to not only play his music and lead the band, he has to, as cheesy as this sounds, he has to BE the music, comparing every drummer to Neil Pert is unfair in a sence, every drummer has his own style, drumming is like speaking, some people have a different accent, pronounce differently, or even a completely different language, i drum and i try not to judge and say whos the best because ive been inspired by so many.
I had seen this guy do a solo in Moncton, NB, late last year, and it was very similar to this. No, it's not an interesting solo, one dimensional for sure, but when he played it, did the crowd ever go crazy. No doubt it definitely gets you pumped.
Ok for the beginning of this, everyone who watches this video needs to listen to track 11 of the Killer Instinct soundtrack called trailblazer. Mike must've been a fan.
yeah mike isn't the fastest drummer there is...but i'm a huge disturbed fan....and the one thing i really appreciate about these guys is their originality...and even though this sin't the fastest drum solo...it's got great rhythm and is something I could listen by itself....so personally I think he's an awesome drummer because he chooses to play drum parts that are appealing and match what the other band members are playing and not just something really fast with no beat to it...Disturbed rules
this solo does not suck...it's nothing special, but he's very steady. What he plays in the band's songs is great. Plus, 97% of normal non-drummer people can't tell whether it's an awesome solo or not. Just because you can't solo like Buddy Rich doesn't mean you suck. There's more to drumming than playing solos. In my opinion, playing tastefully and on tempo are much more important than being able to blast out an amazing solo on command
@decentdrummer911 it may be easy to play, but have you ever thought about how 'easy' it is to come up with a good sounding solo? one that you make up by yourself?
In my opinion, Mike is a great drummer. Ya he is not the fastest but he has excellent rythym. Most drummers just go so fast its just a blur but he has got it perfectly right in between the two. Speed and rythym. :)
Go Mike!
Dude to be able to record or just be in that position to experience this would be AWESOME!🤘
Fucking love Mike!
One of my favorite drummers x
The thing that Mike does so well is the drum parts to the songs. His strength lies in his musicality, making tasteful and suiting drum parts to his band's songs. And that is what makes a good drummer in my book.

Give that man a Whole Lotta Beer!
LiamDarkCross lol beer is good :)
I prefer by far a drummer with a good groove than a speedy lost head!
Why are MIKEs so good in drumming? Oh my goodness, love them all. Portnoy, Mangini and Wengren.
So simple but it sounds so amazing 😍😍
People are forgeting that drum solo is just a variation of a simple beat in different ways , and Mike has done that perfectly.
This solo is just amazing
This is a true musician. Sure it's not complex, because it doesn't NEED to be. Sometimes the SIMPLEST music is the BEST. AC/DC's drumming is VERY similar throughout their songs, but they are an INCREDIBLY successful and LOVED band. I LOVE HIS TRIBAL DRUM BEATS!
His base drumming patterns are brillliant
love his work :) DISTURBED IS THE BEST BAND!!! YEAH!
So much energy! I'm disturbed from just watching this! Freaking awesome!
Mike is an awesome drummer he is soooooooooo smooth
His beats may be really simple and easy to get down, but he is an awesome drummer and has a lot of talent.
disturbed fucking owns
Yeah..I agree with you acutally. Each drummer have their style, diffrent from others, that's why I get so inspired by so many drummers.
MIke killed it...long live Mike Wengren
Unlike like other drummers who bang on their drums as fast as they can for their solos, Mike is very accurate in his playing which makes his solos sound really sick.
Keep it up Mike!
Dude that was out of this world Awsome I bet that mike wengren cod own any1 anyday
He does this drum solo almost every time and its always awesome!!!!!
mikey is one of most underrated metal drummers today. his beats are very simple and concise, he has great feet and hands, he is the phil rudd of metal drums! His drums sound so clean, I think I am going to switch to Evans Drumheads.
This drum solo sounds so much better live!
The solo, followed by Down With The Sickness and the mosh pits were amazing.
oh god, Mike is freaking amazing.
i remember this solo live when they played in ottawa in 09 best show ive have ever seen till this year when they came back with music as a weapon 5 tour
Mike Wengren and Dany Carey, my favorite drummers for ever!!!
DISTURBED WILL LIVE FOR EVER!
The thing I love about Disturbed is that they're metal but they don't feel the need to go insanelly fast. Don't get me wrong I love very fast metal, but they keep everything in a good rhythm. Love em.
this is a wonderful drum solo i love the beat.
it doesnt matter if its easy or hard, it matters that it sounds amazing
Mike is on fire in 2024 still sounds great !!
A definate joy to listen to the little nuances he Applies within his riffs and the nice use of space, Unlike death metal. you can find a solid beat within all that syncopation. Peart is still the closest to buddy rich but wengren would be the new generations Peart.
New generation Peart....did I really just read that? No....just no...wrong
I just bought these sticks. He is my favorite drummer.
there are no words that can describe how awesome this is...
Disturbed fucking rocks!
you are really great, loved it
Keep practicing. If you do it enough times you'll be able to do it in your sleep. Good luck! I also think Mike has one of the best studio engineers in the business. The sound of his drums is nothing short of awesome, especially his snare.
He comes up with a new solo every year. He just keeps the same one through a whole tour
Mike Wengren is my fav drummer!!
Its his un orthodox kickin that set him apart for me! he is amazing!
The reason why disturbed is so fucking good is because they actually put heart into their guitar and drum solos, its not just random shreading that makes no sense, each solo is specific to each song and only fits in that song. Dan Donegan (guitarist for disturbed) has said that every solo he writes means something to the song its in.... thats what makes disturbed great
good ole two over two. every drum solo has that one section where we start it slow then it builds then it falls back down.
Mother of mike wengren!! i love you mike!!!
@masterofhi50
Yah but best thing about Mikey is he is always improving! go thru his druming album by album and you can hear the difference! He is one very solid drmmer!
Dude...greatest reply ever!! That fuckin ruled!!!
Great solo!
thank you for clarifying this. people gotta realize that in a non-drum convention setting, sometimes simple and catchy is better.
He is just amazing. If this is just a warm up, he must be pretty exhausted at the end of the concert. He has sweat dripping off him already. Gee, do any of you complaining about him play like that?
i want a drum set like that it would be a good way to take out my frustrations on a drum set lol
Awesome drumming!
Tribal Drummer
It pulls at such a core level. Crazy how heavy a sound they made with the slow tambour of his playing style. I figure it speaks alot to why there music always has the compulsion of a literal following. This is the rythm that teaches lessons.

I can't wait to see him again on the next Disturbed tour in the UK.
favorites due to his ability, his ability to keep the beat perfectly and so on he is a slower drummer but there is a reason it works well for him like dans solos are slower but more soulful just like mikes drumming when i listen to it i actually hear emotion in it lol he is by far one of the greatest for a different reason than just playing really really fast plus this solo is amazing i was at this exact concert lol(:
hella good with the kick peddles
Cant describe how much i love Mike Wengren ( No homo ) He's THE best
Yep. Especially when he throws the double kick pedal in with it.

+fightingfalconfan "Disturbed needs to come back from their extra long vacation; make a new album, and tour again!" You filthy oracle! :D
They have, and are touring again...
i dont get why people say his drum solos suck..lol the whole point of it is for something different..to entertain not to mention the guys having so much fun lol not to mention the guy is a solid drummer. with some powerful ass beats.
I would love if they recorded a version of down with the sickness with this solo included!!! My intro song when i walk in the gym!
amazing quality! :}
one word amazing :)
32 people realize how easy this is.
Got the best metal groove¡!!!!!👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
@TheProfesionalTroll they need to make not just signature sticks but drums too
Hahaha, Mikey looks awesome:D
this is a good solo i dont care wat any1 thinks i just like him as a drummer and his band
this guy has a great sense of timing
Yeah I know them, they're also great. I played a song by buddy rich in school, it was a lot of fun. I was just excited when I watched this.
I agree 100%. Except about the beer part, just cuz im not old enough yet :P
keep rockin, Mike!
Awesome. Disturbed rocks!

it dosnt matter. i was just saying. its good to know he does a new one every tour!!
I had to fuckin watch this again, fucking epic
I had seen this guy do a solo in Moncton, NB, late last year, and it was very similar to this. No, it's not an interesting solo, one dimensional for sure, but when he played it, did the crowd ever go crazy. No doubt it definitely gets you pumped.
A pesar de que Mike no es muy técnico, mike es el baterista más creativo que existe, por lo menos para mí es el mejor, mi ídolo.
I agree, best comment on Disturbed I've seen yet. :D
it may not be that good compared to other drummers but i still love this !
@Manga911 Yeah well said, and that´s the true essence that a drummer has to apport into a band, his own style...
Shit I wish i could play as steady as him. And the way he uses the whole drumset in some of the songs is INSANE. Groove > speed
idk if i'm tripping but I hear immortalized in the first minute of the beat
Nice lookin' kit.....
You got that right.
@TGbaseball26 That, and they're all pretty freaking amazing musicians.
Mike is the man ... I'm not very impressed by his drum solo ... but his skill and drums in Disturbed songs are just awesome ...
Agreed! Best drummer ever!
i heard somewhere that Mike Wengren is the 2nd bestdrummer in the world ^^
what a demon!!! BIG UP!!
Mike is my hero
@tommasotemporin the 19" one?
Thank you very much! i want this :)
Miiike Wengren Chronicles!!!

In my opinion, playing tastefully and on tempo are much more important than being able to blast out an amazing solo on command
no it looks like an ahead stick but it is really his signature vater stick. which is painted black and has a nylon tip.
i heard it on the radio station they had david in the studio
@decentdrummer911 it may be easy to play, but have you ever thought about how 'easy' it is to come up with a good sounding solo? one that you make up by yourself?
In my opinion, Mike is a great drummer. Ya he is not the fastest but he has excellent rythym. Most drummers just go so fast its just a blur but he has got it perfectly right in between the two. Speed and rythym. :)
Mike is awesome. This wasn't the solo that I saw him play live though.
