    It's not a Mandela effect issue at all. The version that aired in the show says "lurks behind you," while the full version with both verses says "watch behind you."
    I know. I've edited the DuckTales Wikia page, and had to listen to both to get the lyrics right.

      ZipplyZane I always heard "What's" as in the question "what's behind you?"

      When everyone started making videos after the reboot series was announced, I was surprised to hear "Watch behind you" when the song was included in those videos. I always heard "Danger lurks behind you," and I'm pretty sure the word "lurks" wasn't part of my vocabulary when the show started (I was about 5 years old). I just watched an upload from 10 years ago of the original opening. I can hear "watch" if I listen for it, but it still sounds very much like "lurks" to me. The TH-cam automatic closed captioning incorrectly transcribed it as "which behind you," so even the AI can clearly make out the lyric.

      It totally qualifies as a Mandela Effect - exactly because of that. Most, if not all, so called "Mandela Effects" can easily explained through something like that. One another great musical example would be Queen's "We Are the Champions". The studio version just fades out, no famous and powerful "of the world" at the end, like most people remember it to be. But in all live versions Freddie added exactly that line, which ended also the other two choruses in the song in the studio version. Our brains simply tell us that the song ends with this one line, because we have already heard it ending with that line and we also know that the chorus ends with that line and the chorus repeats itself a third time at the end of the song. It's nothing but a trick of the brain, a false memory so to say. And like I said, most Mandela Effects can be explained exactly like that.

    • @ZipplyZane
      @ZipplyZane 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I don't agree with that definition. The Mandela Effect is when a lot of people remember something that never happened. It's not the same as when you remember something that did happen, but misremember the context.
      The original Mandela Effect is about Nelson Mandela, who people think died, despite the fact that he was then still alive. It wasn't people remembering his death happening earlier than it did. People's brains just misfire in a predictable pattern.
      Another big example is the Berenstain Bears. People misremember the word as being spelled Berenstein. But it was never spelled that way. This one I actually know what happened: people remember how to spell words by comparing thenm with other similar words. People didn't actually remember how to spell Berenstain, since it's a word they hadn't seen since childhood. So they remember all the other words that end in -stein, and so misspell Berenstein.
      I agree there could be a confabulation here. People could be listening to the whole song and just assume the lyrics are the same as the cut version. But that doesn't rise to the level I associate with the Mandela effect.
      I likewise would not count the Queen thing as the Mandela effect. People just assume the live version matches the earlier version. That's too simple.
      The Mandela effect describes things that, to quote the person who coined it, "These aren’t simple errors in memory."
      It's the fact that the explanation is so complex that leads people to (incorrectly) ascribe some sort of supernatural explanation to the phenomenon.
      Of course, your mileage clearly varies.

    • @iWhacko
      @iWhacko 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Amen to that. The Mandela effect is used to liberally these days. just because you misremember something, doesn't make it something more than that

    About the lurk/watch debate: the first time I heard it I actually thought it was "right" as in "D-d-d-danger *right* behind you"! I'm Italian, so the lyrics I was used to translate more or like to "Watch out! There is someone behind you who's spying you!" and I think that both the imagery and the fact that in Italian they used "alle spalle" to say "behind" (it actually means "right behind your back", "over your shoulder") made me think about "right behind you" as a possible lyric.
    Btw, awesome work! I hope you'll make more video about the Ducktales reboot, I have a lot of contrasting feelings about it and I would love to hear your opinion!

    I'm from Finland but I grew up watching Ducktales before the channel which aired it began to systematically dub all their cartoons. So I grew up listening to the Ducktales theme in English as well as the show itself. I didn't speak a word of the language yet but I got so used to the voices that when they suddenly began speaking in Finnish in the mid-90s, I didn't initially like the voice-acting (even though looking back, there wasn't anything wrong with it). Either way, I prefer the original Ducktales theme.

    The X-Men Theme Song is something very near and dear to me. It was composed by Ron Wasserman and Shuki Levy. They are the same team who has composed the intros and music for shows like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Spiderman, Digimon Digital Monsters, and many, many more. Chances are if there is a T.V. theme song that you guys like from the 90's and today, they worked on it.

    Vocal Jazz nerd here with my two cents on the "woo hoo" issue. In the original theme song, I think the first part of the singer's iconic "uh-woo hoo" is what we call a "ghost," a barely-there half syllable used as ornamentation in jazz, rock, and pop singing. Other prominent examples can be found across Michael Jackson's work (he uses it heavily "Billie Jean" for example).

Like the (infamous?) influence on the Indiana Jones boulder roll, or other ways it's trickled down through pop culture. It could be a cool way of looking at comic series that get dismissed as "not as serious" as something like DC or Marvel, just because it's put out by Disney.

    I mean, has he ever had a suit that didn't make you go like "look ma! It's iron man!"

    I just don't agree that the pants costumes look like Wonder Woman. Yes, that newer pants costume is better than the old one. And, yes, it has Wonder Woman iconography on it. But she still looks like a different character.
    To me, not having pants is just part of her costume, and a big change. The only examples I've seen where she look right involve keeping the rest of her outfit entirely like classic WW. They also ten to keep the onsie shape.
    But, honestly, I find the rustic warrior look (ala the movie) to look the best, and I have not seen a version of that that works with pants.
    I also note that I do not see her with pants at all if I just Google "wonder woman." The first example is 100s of images down, and is the cover of a comic.

    It's both! The older DuckTales theme used "lurk" and the new used "watch." (or vice versa I actually forget right offhand) It really depends on what you want to sing. The REAL debate is, is it "bold deduction" or "good deduction" in the second verse of the extended version.

    Why are pants and a battle skirt mutually exclusive? Armored skirts aren't _that_ tight, and while I've never personally worn a skirt into battle, I'd imagine a pair of pants underneath would be helpful whenever the temperature dropped low enough or my shin banged into something.

      As a side note for R: Why is designing Wonder Woman's costume to appeal more to prudish types bad, but keeping a costume designed to appeal more to lewd types completely unquestioned? (It's not like Wonder Woman can choose her own outfit, what with being fictional.)

      Timothy McLean it's the same reason Tim Drake doesn't wear a mask; those two superheroes make an identity of themselves by going against what makes logical sense in our real world considering the fact that our Earth is Earth 13; the climate in their Earths could be warmer or hotter then it is on our Earth...

    We need more Ducktales videos about the comics themselves, especially the whole deal with the two different family trees and two different possible canons from both Carl Barks and Don Rosa. Which canon is the true canon and which artist is the new series taking cues from, Barks or Rosa or maybe both.

    • @megelizabeth9492
      @megelizabeth9492 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be really awesome actually. From what I've read of both, I'm getting heavier Rosa vibes, especially with the heavy emphasis on family, and the slightly more naturalistic and realistic approach to storytelling, and the fact that "Life and Times" is required reading for the crew, but I would love to here someone break it down and actually pull it apart a bit.

    2:52 I wonder if that's why people have been going for simpler Lost-like openings (even mashing them with the title cards-- see: Stranger Things). Making it part of the theatrics and setting the mood, rather than being like a mascot you can play with on your own later when you're not actively interacting with the medium. Like, in the former, you're passively experiencing the opening sequence/theme these days, rather than the latter which can act as a stand-alone toy to keep you company and act as a brand ambassador (see: that girl that sings Duck Tales without having seen an episode). I think the former is getting more and more use as time goes by because, for starters, it's better for binge-watching without commercials, whereas the latter hypes you up so you can still be buzzing with anticipation while you sit through the post-opening ads. Another reason could be that it's different, fresh, new, and helps differentiate it from slightly dated materials from, say, the 90's, 80's, and so on, back when longer openings could be leveraged as filler and seem different, fresh, and new in its own right to differentiate from shorter opening sequences like, say I Love Lucy and other shows at the dawn of TV when the credits were short enough to play in the opening. Man, it's all so cool to see how it's evolved over the decades, I wonder what we'll see in 10 or 20 years from now.

    OK, so the perspective is really throwing me off here. Are RKVC just physically larger? Scott looks small, which feels like he should be farther away, but his elbows are in front of the guys' elbows so he must be in front... I'm getting motion sick trying to figure this out!

    Wait a minute... those two guys know the people who wrote the song for Gummy Bears, and a bunch of other songs? Well obviously now you have to do videos on all those and ask those people to come in and do an interview or two over the different songs they have done. Maybe put them in their respective videos (ie part of the interview for Gummy Bears video, and other parts for the other videos).
