I'm really struck by how unique this anthem is. First, you're singing not as an abstract citizen but as an actual person, as if directly quoting William of Orange, and that points to the sheer importance placed upon this person in this country's history. Second, you cite William's "loyalty to the King of Spain." It's very rare for the anthem of a country to mention the name of another, let alone hint at loyalty to that country so, to make sense of the words, you're consequentially immersed in the very particular history in your country.
Well in translation something went wrong as well, "ben ik van Duitsen bloed" actually means "I am of German blood" which is a complicated story to tell, but the short version: our royals are mixed with German...
What an irony, as well, to have the national anthem, speaking in the voice of the rebel against the rule of Spain, announce his loyalty to that very king!
Max Verstappen made me grow sick of the instrumental version after hearing it so many times on the podium, so it's great to finally hear some nice lyrics (I still love my boy super max tho)
Great anthem! I had a few suggestions: Bahamas, Thailand, Poland and God save the King since very sadly her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away. They changed to God save the King. Thanks!
Гарний гімн, в якому є відбиток віри. Шкода, що у нас гімн не включає цього, що не було глибокого пробудження і Божого дотику в нашій країні. Тому й до сих пір в складному економіко-політичному становищі.

@@Monkeyamingus777 they still didnt talked about Germanic, but German people. There was no seperation at that time, just some other countries inside of the Holy Roman Empire that was considered German.
The anthem is sung from the perspective of our founding father, prince William of Orange. He was a Germanic prince that oversaw the Spanish colony of the lowlands in the name of the Spanish king Filippe II. Prince William eventually became disillusioned with the king of Spain after he tried centralizing the power of his kingdom to himself and Madrid. Prince William also took objection to the horrific murders of protestants and all who where deemed not Catholic enough by the Spanish inquisitors. These murders where something the Spanish king supported. It is this combination of factors that made him, alongside other nobles, revolt. Leading the our 80 year war of independence against Spain. So that is why the song states that he (prince Wiliam of Orange) has always loyally served Spain. Its written from his perspective :)

Ben ick van duytschen bloet (1568, original Version) = Bin ich von deutschen Blut" = " I am of/from German Blood". Wilhelmus van Nassawe was german. And in the netherlands 500-600 years ago they were speaking "Niederdeutsch" = "Nederduytsch" = a german dialect => nederduits => then modern "dutch" (many english, french, spanish and other words and they also changed the grammatica 100 years ago and so on, so that their language nowdays sounds like a "broken german", so we germans needs a translator nowdays to understand them
these kind of anthem and folkmusic channels are kinda cringe, nothing really original except some channels that upload rare recordings, but eitherway i like this video
It's because at the time the anthem was created, the Netherlands was fighting the 80 Years war against Spain, and the Dutch king decided to pay respect by declaring his loyalty the Spanish king.
Well I'm not sure of everything, but I think that = more than German it would be Germanic, just like when the King of Spain is said, at that time the Kingdom of Spain did not exist (as today) rather" Las Españas" (Kingdoms, Principalities , etc..)
@@mihamhassan6206 Because Willem and most Dutch public-servants served the Spanish crown with loyal service, it is only after oppresion and other forms of denegration that we fought for our country and eventually for our independence. That piece of the song is to subsue the accusations that we betrayed the Spanish and to simply set a precedent.

I think, that sometimes a singable translation is not always necessary and in this case it is not even achieved perfectly, since one has to stress words in a peculiar manner sometimes (prepositions or “to the“ in the first verse for example).
