"I love my life." Hearing you say those words despite years of what you had suffered through in the past is such a joy to hear. Take care Brian. We love you and will always continue to support you.
Brian, I'm way behind on videos but I'm really enjoying the bushcrafting vids that I've seen so far. Do you have a recommendation for a batoning knife in the event there's not an ax or hatchet handy? I'm completely new to this and know less than nothing but it's very interesting and I'd like to learn more Thanks for all the videos!
Damn Brian. 230lbs and built like a tank. Gotta thank you for the row complex. It's putting size on my back. And it shows that even at 42 years on the clock progress can still continue. Now it's off to buy a dehydrator and make some jerky.
That recipe looks amazing! I love your videos Brian. Question for you... have you ever tried Next Level Diet? I got custom weight loss meal plan from them and I love it.
To be honest man, the only diet I’ve ever tried was the vertical diet and it didn’t go well for me. I’ve never counted calories or macros or weighed my food and I never will. I don’t really follow diet, I either eat consciously where they attempt to make smart decisions every meal, or I eat semi-consciously were only semi-care. Those are my two options
It's a spam comment, there was another account a few weeks back putting this sort of comment on a lot of videos. Always had a suspicious amount of likes and little related to the video, just enough to bridge to their promotion
We do this but only add salt and pepper. Love it this way. My wife and I do only Carnavore. I'm 62 and never wanted to workout again until going Carnavore for 8 months. Then wanted to start working out. Loving it again! Used to be 272 know 181. Life is amazing!
When I used to be out in the field I'd bring a ton of jerky so I could limit how many MREs I had to eat. You really can pack a ton of protein in a small container but it's really expensive. Another method is to use a jerky cannon so you can use ground meats. It's basically like a big caulking gun but with meat.
Hey, I've been on carnivore for years. We do alot of similar shit to stay consistent. I dry brine pounds of roast beef at a time. I eat around 12 to 15 pounds a week. Some weeks I eat Frickadellen with pork skins as a substitute for the bread. Both roast beef, and Frickadellen taste very good cold, or warm. I carry all my meals with me, every day in a lunch box. If I get hungry, and I am next to McDonald's I eat the meat until I no longer crave the McDonald's. We make what others consider to be unsustainable, sustainable through preparation. I respect how you are handling yourself. Just another example of how nothing works unless you do
something about that amazing property you look after, the bushcraft, and well just you being a beast makes beef jerky seem all such the perfect natural fit. it's always in my pack when out hiking.
Some builds on what has also been a staple on the go protein for me - been making South African style jerky called Biltong (been around for 100's of years) - Typically its warmer there so you don't need a dehydrator - just a box to hang big strips of meat in (all the box does is keep the bugs / animals out). If you google Biltong box it will show up. Here in NJ I just put the box in my boiler room. Soak the meat in a mix of apple cider vinegar (help the meat keep longer and absorb the flavors) and soy for flavor. Then sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add ground up coriander seeds to the mix if needed. 3 days and good to go.
If I had more diet hacks, I would definitely share them! But currently, my entire diet consists of one meal a day (dinner) usually 4 to 5 protein shakes, fish oil, jerky and fruit haha
Great stuff, man. I definitely need to give this a try, we already have a little dehydrator. Been wanting to try jerky for quite a while, this sounds great.
Definitely gonna try this, might have to rig it some other way because I don't have the dehydrator. Luckily, there are a number of ways to do it. I actually wanted to do this a long time ago, some members of my family do that every year, but it slip my mind at some point. Your method is different and that makes it interesting. Great video as always!
"Even if it sucks, it's still going to be better than 7 hour old, luke warm, slimy Tupperware chicken" - Brian Alsruhe's words of wisdom. In all seriousness, thank you for the idea! I'm in the middle of a "comeback" and I work long hours at a hospital, and need something like this. Take out and vending machines are my only options, if I do not bring the Tupperware.
love it. and this comes at the perfect time. I will be working overseas for two months and mainly drive the coast by car. so thats seams like a good option
I must confess I haven't watch you in some time but I would love you to go a bit more in depth into this topic. What cuts have you tried and what worked best. Favorite spices mixes and marinates. Dos and don't if you have them. Definitely would tune in for part two, three.
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial I would have to tell my life story here to answer that question completely but I won't bore you. Changes in my life meant less time and I had to make choices. Bushcraft, cutting wood videos etc had to go. As I live in big city in europ they won't be apliciable. Then I think the TH-cam made its thingy and I've got less and less of your videos. Noting against you, you make a great job and you are a hug inspiration. Just life happened.
I always bring jerky and dried fruit in my go bag for easy meals on the run. I've been procrastinating on making my own, but now that I'm on a cut it really does make the most sense to do it. Thanks for the tip!
i have an Instant Vortex air fryer that has a dehydrate feature. it's awesome, it makes jerky in just 8 hours. the advice in this video is excellent. especially the part about the LEAN CUTS. very important!
I live outside the U.S so jerky isnt big here. My brother brought sime after a trip to the states and i decided to give it a go but it didnt go too well. But! This totally gave me the motivation to try again so i guess im making jerky!
Thanks for this Brian. You will always be an inspiration to me. My family has recently been doing tons of dehydrated Jerky as well. What kind of cuts do you use?
Honestly, whatever I can get for relatively cheap that is lean. Things like top round usually work really well but this is all like supplemental food for me so I try to keep an eye out for deals and stuff
Stoked to try this. I love me some beef jerky but hate how freaking expensive it is. And this seems way better than my scoops of whey and water I take on the road for the day 😂
Indeed it is my man! I could really use a Filson sponsorship haha I love their stuff but you definitely pay for it! And I got to show you a little bit of love in my last video when I was talking about the tools that I used. I truly can’t thank you for how you blessed me when I first started my Bushcraft journey
If you check out my surgery video, I took a break from doing it so that I could focus on physical therapy for my shoulder from an injury that happen months before they started to challenge. But as soon as I’m back to 100%, I’m going to try the challenge again from the start
Ppl who go for the bland ass meat and veg prep have always cracked me up. You're gonna be eating the same say 2-6 foods for weeks on end, why not enjoy it. And if 50 or so calories of fat and spice, or sauce are gonna break the metaphorical bank. Then that's probably the least of your worries.
I think it depends on the sauce. I know plenty of sauces that have more calories in them than the entire meal. I definitely agree that ketchup is not the problem for most people but over the course of five or six meals in a day, you can easily add 300 to over 1000 cal without even realizing it. I definitely see your point, but I never ever tell my clients that they can have whatever sauces they want unless they are very overweight and have a ton of body fat to lose

That is the truth, I’m trying to heat exclusively with wood this year

I make beef jerky for almost 1 year, a true game changer!
It truly is and is so much cheaper in simpler than I thought it would be

I love jerky but also avoid it because of its price. Thanks for this inspiration! I'll definitely give it a try next chance I get!
I really hope this will help solve that problem Andrew! Buying steak still isn’t cheap, but it’s a lot cheaper than buying the finished jerky product

You need to include it in your giant sets. But at least an RPE 7 would be a good place to start.
