Well done to the WTO for putting itself out there. More and more people need to better understand trade and its impact in their everyday lives. Even countries need to learn how to play the game of trade. Sadly a lot of poor African countries like Nigeria are unable to take advantage of trade in the modern globalized economy. Just like many sub-Saharan African, Nigeria for reasons like corruption, sheer negligence, dearth of infrastructure, the complexity of global finance, have been unable to trade their way out of poverty.
Tomorrow Nigeria turns 64, and in all her abundance, crude oil remains her most competitive export. In as much as international trade is seen as a potential solution, I’d think I rather have a functional autarky than a dysfunctional “international trader.”
Yes food and drugs have become cheaper for the worlds poorest. Blah blah blah…but at the cost of perpetual poverty ?
