her inhaler is a relief inhaler. usually asthmatics have a relief inhaler and a daily inhaler, the daily is for preventing attacks and the relief is for temporarily stopping them when they happen. if she was on dailies before, her being a singer isn't that unrealistic.

The instant game-over makes the game not scary. Obviously the creatures are lore-accurate in the game, but it would make the game scary if they actually locked on to your location from a far distance and ran to you instead of teleporting. Like imagine you're scrounging for food and you drop a can of beans. It's silent for a second, you're praying that nothing heard that, then thump thump THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP rapidly getting louder until the wall next to you bursts and you're dead boom game over.
Reminds me of a scene from The Last of Us game where Joel saves Ellie from a bloater, right after it sprints through a wall grabbing Ellie, all because she made a little noise.
The most ridiculous part of this is the complete joy at her being pregnant. You live in a world where ANY sound above a whisper likely means death, and you're HAPPY that not only will your wife go through an experience that involves lots of screaming, but you'll ALSO have a newborn baby constantly crying. To say nothing of the fact that anyone using an inhaler THAT loudly would've died within a week.

One of the main reasons why I hated the first movie. I was hyped for it but there were so many world building issues and characters making stupid decisions that I left the theater very disappointed.
The problem with the way the monsters attack is that the fact that they just automatically spawn behind you means, it doesn't matter where they are in the level, as long as you make noise, you die. Even if the monster is nowhere near you and you should be out of reach.

@@retro_daaz6391 It dulls the gameplay loop. I thought it would be that the closer the monsters are, the more lethal mistakes become. So you might get away with opening a door a bit too loud of they are far away, but a loud enough sound will bring them to your immediate vicinity (like the next room or outside the window), and at that point even the smaller, less noticable sounds (like using the inhaler) could be lethal. That way you get punished for being careless with a scenario that requires the utmost care. Instead, a mistake is just a GAME OVER, no matter where the monster is. I understand though. They likely scaled back on a lot of plans once they realized they can't make the monster AI as powerful as it would need to be to handle obstacles like terrain and crawlspaces when chasing you. So the monsters can only roam empty spaces and spawn from your blind spot when it's time to punish you, regardless of context.
I don't blame them. They decided to simplify the monster AI and try to push the narrative aspect instead. I think they should have done the opposite. Something like Left4Dead. Simplify the story, each level is an arena (the player has a short timeframe to get used to it, and a simple goal to get from point A to B), the monster is introduced after short time, or at set moments for the plot and the player has to survive. The focus should have been on the monster AI. I think that was the main appeal of a Quiet Place game. To see if you can survive better than the characters in the movie, if you were left in the room with one of those monsters. Unfortunately, here they are just not very intelligent and don't need to be because once you make a mistake, they'll just spawn behind you and kill you.
It would make the game MUCH better if it just alerted them and they dashed towards you at super speed since the short period of time in between noise and death makes for HUGE tension
I feel like the yellow paint has taken over because have you seen the amount of people playing games that just don’t know what the fck to do and keep asking “chat where do I go?” It’s annoying to see the paint overdone but it’s just as irking to watch people walk around aimlessly. Damned if devs do, damned if devs don’t.
It’s like those giant red arrows in TH-cam thumbnails back in the day. It’d be a giant bear taking up 70% of the screen and there’d still be at least 5 arrows pointing at it.
5:40 You know the yellow paint gimick is officially overboard when you have it randomly slapped on a specific part of a large trunk in the middle of an empty road (because you can only climb over that trunk at this SPECIFIC spot), even after you just watched a NPC do the slowest climb over in existence. Also... that's not how tree trunks work, you can't just have your foot go straight trough it like that, even if it started to rot away (which this one clearly didn't as it still full of green leaves).
When I saw the yellow paint on every brick, I let out a big sigh. Was the white circle not enough? They didn't even commit to it; the beer bottles don't have any yellow on them.
There was a tree in my front yard that could have behaved like this trunk, a very odd unique situation for that tree though, mostly dead but held up by another larger tree still with greenery on it you stood on it your foot would fall right through and could get caught like she did.

It's no Alien: Isolation, but I can respect the attempt- especially since it's only source material is the movies. Edit: the game is only $30. All the more respect for knowing the products quality instead of price gouging.
One thing that’s kinda weird about this game vs Alien Isolation with the story is that there’s a chance to get off station in Alien. You’re just.. kinda waiting to inevitably get killed in A Quiet Place.
The movie does set up that they can be killed (relatively easily too. Seriously that's a massive plot hole that zero people figured it out before. IRL a global coalition would form and the invasion would be cleaned up by dinnertime), so there is some hope, but it's significantly more bleak. There is no safety you're trying to run to, you're just trying to make it one more day for the sake of it

I swear, some games and movies really don’t know jack about his asthma works. I have some of the worst asthma possible and I can say, without a doubt, that if your asthma is so godawful that you’re having asthma attacks from dust and then nervousness of nearby threats… and inhaler is not going to keep working for long. The last time I ended up in a hospital was because the inhaler I was using stopped working outright and at that point not even a nebulizer is going to save you. You’d need a hospital or more powerful medication sooner rather than later. With asthma of that level only specific medicine will carry you through it. Not to be hyperrealistic about it, but even using an inhaler that much would be damaging to the body. You’re only meant to use those things three to four times a day at most, anything more than that would have your heart rate at dangerous levels.

Some medication won’t due to how strong it is and what it does, but things like inhalers or specific management meds will cause you to build immunity over time with extended use. Like ALLERGY MEDICATION. Something you’d expect this character to be constantly searching for if a cloud of dust can cause such a severe reaction. If some cuts their grass and I go outside without taking allergy meds my asthma will run me ragged, but this chad just deep throats their inhaler 5 times in the span of and hour and keeps at it like an android.

The monster approaches you slightly and you start wheezing uncontrollably right next to him or coughing because the slightest disturbance took place in your windpipes which are the size of a straw. hi charlie i think the only way to survive is to set a bunch of those frequency sounds around your bunker to keep the monsters away and live underground, but obviously construction is loud and stuff so that would be difficult my other idea was just living behind a water fall since the sound is muffled by it. if this were to actually happen i would die day 1 because i either spoke to loud and got caught or i decided i couldn’t survive and took my own life.
Im pretty sure asking someone if they can survive an apocalypse implies that they live in said universe. Sooo the quiet place movies wouldn’t of come out and I doubt Charlie is smart enough to figure out their weakness in time😭
You'd need to not only have a bunker and high frequency emitters ready for some reason. You'd need to actually live long enough and realistically be in a scenario where you'd find out their weakness and survive.
10:30 explanation to this, microphones work via a physically moving diaphragm, these have to be pretty sensitive in order to capture full sound and transfer it into an electrical signal, this means the physical movement of moving his elbow on the table causes the vibrations to go on through the microphone and thus pick up the low signal to make it sound like its booming, which has a high volume. thats the reasoning behind it in case anyone was interested
Yeah I agree. Maybe not all the time but in the scenes when they are like 3 feet away from someone? There is no way they aren't hearing a panicked heartbeat, especially when they open up their head to listen closer.
It's said that the death angels can hear a floor creak miles away but given the fact that they work like bats in a way and they can hear that far away it's clear this type of film was meant to be enjoyed with your brain shut off 😂

I kinda wish they done something like what they did with the Xenomorph in alien isolation where the creature basically had two brains, one knew where the player was (brain number 1) and one controlled the creature and didn’t know the player’s location (brain number 2) the first brain would essentially give the second brain hints on the player’s location and if the player was to hide in one location for a long time it would check through all the rooms the player wasn’t and it would eventually find the player through the process of elimination
the yellow paint in this game is brutal! its on the bricks, THE TREE? the table in the flashback, and on and on and on. It would be super immersion breaking for me
Not that it actually matters for the game, since it was changed for gameplay purposes, but the whole Asthma thing is impossible: Not only are asthma emergency inhalers loud (other inhalers can be quiet, but those aren't the medication you take when having a crisis), but you need to inhale it in fast and deep into your lungs which would be another sound (otherwise might not use it at all) and then hold your breath for a significant amount of time which would force you to exhale audibly. Those 3 parts are all louder than someone speaking quietly, but her rapid breathing is also not how an asthma attacks sounds like at once, there is a very weird noise that revibrates at the "end of your breath" when having asthma that is obnoxiously loud and pretty much unstoppable since you'll also end up coughing violently when you end up "choking air" due to the asthma, not to mention that once it starts to get bad you'll be forcefully exhaling to avoid the rapidshort breath cycle at later stages, which brings all those noises to 11 Again, none of this is important since it's merely there as an explanation for a mechanic to make the game more fun, I just found it hilarious how so far off trying to have a silent asthma attack would be like since I've personally been through that experience
Yeah, it is something that is simplifed for the sake of interesting gameplay (Rip to authentic inhaler fans) at least it far more interesting than the Devil in Me and its almost pointless inhaler scenes

It's definitely the thing that always bothered me. The fact that they're automatically attracted to noise AND can't swim is an easy W for humans. But then there wouldn't be movies. So, gotta keep the humans silly.
For me theres just so many things in this game that dont make any sense. Pouring sand in front of you like that wouldnt work like that at all and makes quite a bit of noise. Asthma so bad and one time use inhalers. Quiet place has always been a cool concept that was never fleshed out enough to really make sense. And they just used the gimmick from the first movie and added asthma and called it a day.
In reality those monsters would be dead in no time with our weaponry. Someone would figure out that too much sound at a certain pitch makes them weak. I think the movie is cool, but a lot of wasted potential

i guess if you play with the mic option on and make too much noise through the mic it's auto death. alerting the death angels with small noises in game doesn't give you auto death so you can throw something and/or move away from the area quietly while it comes to investigate.
From how i understand it If you make a noticable amount of noise (between medium to nearly loud amount) then it will alert the creature but not have you automatically kill you. itll just go to your location If you make loud amount of sound then it will automatically kill you
Not necessarily, its only an automatic game over if you make a noise WAY over the environment sound. Also you have to remember that canonically, the death angels are capable of moving 300 miles per hour.

I really like the idea of making a horror game where the protagonist is a regular person with medical issues like everyone else, its a bit far fetched that inhalers are so abundant but it definitely makes things interesting
Playing an asthmatic in Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is always fun. Inhalers only spawn in hospitals and pharmacies (unless you get VERY lucky with a house), and both of those things are usually in cities which makes them a nightmare.
I feel like asthma is overdone in horror, and they always handle it poorly by giving the affected people 0% lung capacity and making it seem like they gotta puff inhalers like an addict to fix their coughs.

Now that you mention it, they could have gotten the same result by trying to throw something, have it fail and then he makes the sacrifice. Like he throws a loud bottle that shatters quite a bit away, he quickly grabs the inhaler and hands it to her, and as she is using it the monster is coming full sprint and without hesitation he runs off and yells loudly, seeing he has no other choice.
The best part about this game was Charlie's ASMR and how they perfectly capture the terrifying experience of having a fucking stupid mother in law that hates you for no reason.

I found the premise of the movie itself to be super dumb. The monsters are basically smooth brain sound zombies. Any new sound they hear, they lose interest in whatever they were chasing to get the new sound, yet the world is powerless against them? They also can't swim so tricking them to run off a cliff into a lake or something would be a good idea, but no one seems to take advantage of this. The military failed? No one came up with the "throw a radio strapped to a bomb" technique? Or thought "these things can hear super well, what if we use super loud sound to explode their ears"? If you got one of those monsters close to you and it opens it's face plate to get the mega ears mode, you just screaming as loud as you can or shooting a gun next to them would destroy their hearing. Also their armor is just hax. "Their skin is so tough that it can resist many kinds of conventional weaponry, from small firearms such as a shotguns and rifles, to missiles or bombs." is just breaking the laws of physics. Are these monsters from the Dragon Ball universe? There is no shot you shoot this thing with a tank and it just walks it off. Even if its armor survives, all that power from the projectile is liquefying their insides.

The instant game-over makes the game not scary. Obviously the creatures are lore-accurate in the game, but it would make the game scary if they actually locked on to your location from a far distance and ran to you instead of teleporting. Like imagine you're scrounging for food and you drop a can of beans. It's silent for a second, you're praying that nothing heard that, then thump thump THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP rapidly getting louder until the wall next to you bursts and you're dead boom game over.

The most ridiculous part of this is the complete joy at her being pregnant. One of the main reasons why I hated the first movie. I was hyped for it but there were so many world building issues and characters making stupid decisions that I left the theater very disappointed.

The problem with the way the monsters attack is that the fact that they just automatically spawn behind you means, it doesn't matter where they are in the level, as long as you make noise, you die.
Even if the monster is nowhere near you and you should be out of reach.
In the movies the monsters are incredibly fast like in the most recent one they are able to travel all through new york to hunt survivors in seconds

I thought it would be that the closer the monsters are, the more lethal mistakes become.
So you might get away with opening a door a bit too loud of they are far away, but a loud enough sound will bring them to your immediate vicinity (like the next room or outside the window), and at that point even the smaller, less noticable sounds (like using the inhaler) could be lethal.
That way you get punished for being careless with a scenario that requires the utmost care.
Instead, a mistake is just a GAME OVER, no matter where the monster is.
I understand though. They likely scaled back on a lot of plans once they realized they can't make the monster AI as powerful as it would need to be to handle obstacles like terrain and crawlspaces when chasing you.
So the monsters can only roam empty spaces and spawn from your blind spot when it's time to punish you, regardless of context.
I don't blame them.
They decided to simplify the monster AI and try to push the narrative aspect instead.
I think they should have done the opposite.
Something like Left4Dead.
Simplify the story, each level is an arena (the player has a short timeframe to get used to it, and a simple goal to get from point A to B), the monster is introduced after short time, or at set moments for the plot and the player has to survive.
The focus should have been on the monster AI.
I think that was the main appeal of a Quiet Place game.
To see if you can survive better than the characters in the movie, if you were left in the room with one of those monsters.
Unfortunately, here they are just not very intelligent and don't need to be because once you make a mistake, they'll just spawn behind you and kill you.
It would make the game MUCH better if it just alerted them and they dashed towards you at super speed since the short period of time in between noise and death makes for HUGE tension
I feel like the yellow paint has taken over because have you seen the amount of people playing games that just don’t know what the fck to do and keep asking “chat where do I go?” It’s annoying to see the paint overdone but it’s just as irking to watch people walk around aimlessly. Damned if devs do, damned if devs don’t.
They at least made it a toggle in this game. That's the best compromise. There for those that need it, a toggle for those that don't want it.

5:40 You know the yellow paint gimick is officially overboard when you have it randomly slapped on a specific part of a large trunk in the middle of an empty road (because you can only climb over that trunk at this SPECIFIC spot), even after you just watched a NPC do the slowest climb over in existence.
Also... that's not how tree trunks work, you can't just have your foot go straight trough it like that, even if it started to rot away (which this one clearly didn't as it still full of green leaves).
When I saw the yellow paint on every brick, I let out a big sigh. Was the white circle not enough? They didn't even commit to it; the beer bottles don't have any yellow on them.
There was a tree in my front yard that could have behaved like this trunk, a very odd unique situation for that tree though, mostly dead but held up by another larger tree still with greenery on it you stood on it your foot would fall right through and could get caught like she did.

One thing that’s kinda weird about this game vs Alien Isolation with the story is that there’s a chance to get off station in Alien. You’re just.. kinda waiting to inevitably get killed in A Quiet Place.
The movie does set up that they can be killed (relatively easily too. Seriously that's a massive plot hole that zero people figured it out before. IRL a global coalition would form and the invasion would be cleaned up by dinnertime), so there is some hope, but it's significantly more bleak. There is no safety you're trying to run to, you're just trying to make it one more day for the sake of it

I swear, some games and movies really don’t know jack about his asthma works. I have some of the worst asthma possible and I can say, without a doubt, that if your asthma is so godawful that you’re having asthma attacks from dust and then nervousness of nearby threats… and inhaler is not going to keep working for long. The last time I ended up in a hospital was because the inhaler I was using stopped working outright and at that point not even a nebulizer is going to save you. You’d need a hospital or more powerful medication sooner rather than later.
With asthma of that level only specific medicine will carry you through it. Not to be hyperrealistic about it, but even using an inhaler that much would be damaging to the body. You’re only meant to use those things three to four times a day at most, anything more than that would have your heart rate at dangerous levels.
Not to mention the medicine will also become less effective if you take it too much. At least according to my doctor

Some medication won’t due to how strong it is and what it does, but things like inhalers or specific management meds will cause you to build immunity over time with extended use. Like ALLERGY MEDICATION. Something you’d expect this character to be constantly searching for if a cloud of dust can cause such a severe reaction. If some cuts their grass and I go outside without taking allergy meds my asthma will run me ragged, but this chad just deep throats their inhaler 5 times in the span of and hour and keeps at it like an android.

When Charlie was asked if he’d survive the A Quiet Place monsters scenario, the first though that came to mind for me was “hell no” because of asthma, and then I legitimately started laughing at this gameplay. Not saying it’s bad, but lord have mercy it’s pretty comical lol. The monster approaches you slightly and you start wheezing uncontrollably right next to him or coughing because the slightest disturbance took place in your windpipes which are the size of a straw. The monster just walks by like a Skyrim npc.☠️

explanation to this, microphones work via a physically moving diaphragm, these have to be pretty sensitive in order to capture full sound and transfer it into an electrical signal, this means the physical movement of moving his elbow on the table causes the vibrations to go on through the microphone and thus pick up the low signal to make it sound like its booming, which has a high volume. thats the reasoning behind it in case anyone was interested

I kinda wish they done something like what they did with the Xenomorph in alien isolation where the creature basically had two brains, one knew where the player was (brain number 1) and one controlled the creature and didn’t know the player’s location (brain number 2) the first brain would essentially give the second brain hints on the player’s location and if the player was to hide in one location for a long time it would check through all the rooms the player wasn’t and it would eventually find the player through the process of elimination

Not that it actually matters for the game, since it was changed for gameplay purposes, but the whole Asthma thing is impossible: Not only are asthma emergency inhalers loud (other inhalers can be quiet, but those aren't the medication you take when having a crisis), but you need to inhale it in fast and deep into your lungs which would be another sound (otherwise might not use it at all) and then hold your breath for a significant amount of time which would force you to exhale audibly.
Those 3 parts are all louder than someone speaking quietly, but her rapid breathing is also not how an asthma attacks sounds like at once, there is a very weird noise that revibrates at the "end of your breath" when having asthma that is obnoxiously loud and pretty much unstoppable since you'll also end up coughing violently when you end up "choking air" due to the asthma, not to mention that once it starts to get bad you'll be forcefully exhaling to avoid the rapidshort breath cycle at later stages, which brings all those noises to 11
Again, none of this is important since it's merely there as an explanation for a mechanic to make the game more fun, I just found it hilarious how so far off trying to have a silent asthma attack would be like since I've personally been through that experience

The yellow paint in video games is actually because all video game developers have a secret fear of the Green Lantern.
For me theres just so many things in this game that dont make any sense. Pouring sand in front of you like that wouldnt work like that at all and makes quite a bit of noise. Asthma so bad and one time use inhalers. Quiet place has always been a cool concept that was never fleshed out enough to really make sense. And they just used the gimmick from the first movie and added asthma and called it a day.
In reality those monsters would be dead in no time with our weaponry. Someone would figure out that too much sound at a certain pitch makes them weak. I think the movie is cool, but a lot of wasted potential

i guess if you play with the mic option on and make too much noise through the mic it's auto death. alerting the death angels with small noises in game doesn't give you auto death so you can throw something and/or move away from the area quietly while it comes to investigate.
From how i understand it
If you make a noticable amount of noise (between medium to nearly loud amount) then it will alert the creature but not have you automatically kill you. itll just go to your location
If you make loud amount of sound then it will automatically kill you
Not necessarily, its only an automatic game over if you make a noise WAY over the environment sound. Also you have to remember that canonically, the death angels are capable of moving 300 miles per hour.

I really like the idea of making a horror game where the protagonist is a regular person with medical issues like everyone else, its a bit far fetched that inhalers are so abundant but it definitely makes things interesting
Playing an asthmatic in Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is always fun. Inhalers only spawn in hospitals and pharmacies (unless you get VERY lucky with a house), and both of those things are usually in cities which makes them a nightmare.

Now that you mention it, they could have gotten the same result by trying to throw something, have it fail and then he makes the sacrifice.
Like he throws a loud bottle that shatters quite a bit away, he quickly grabs the inhaler and hands it to her, and as she is using it the monster is coming full sprint and without hesitation he runs off and yells loudly, seeing he has no other choice.

I found the premise of the movie itself to be super dumb. The monsters are basically smooth brain sound zombies. Any new sound they hear, they lose interest in whatever they were chasing to get the new sound, yet the world is powerless against them? They also can't swim so tricking them to run off a cliff into a lake or something would be a good idea, but no one seems to take advantage of this.
The military failed? No one came up with the "throw a radio strapped to a bomb" technique? Or thought "these things can hear super well, what if we use super loud sound to explode their ears"? If you got one of those monsters close to you and it opens it's face plate to get the mega ears mode, you just screaming as loud as you can or shooting a gun next to them would destroy their hearing.
Also their armor is just hax. "Their skin is so tough that it can resist many kinds of conventional weaponry, from small firearms such as a shotguns and rifles, to missiles or bombs." is just breaking the laws of physics. Are these monsters from the Dragon Ball universe? There is no shot you shoot this thing with a tank and it just walks it off. Even if its armor survives, all that power from the projectile is liquefying their insides.
