I live in asia, I was so confused about all the tips in gardening channels in the US until i understood the hardness zone difference. From my research i live in zone 10 which makes most tips irrelevant for me. but i still enjoy the process just for the motivation keep it up

Bre I’ve been learning so much about gardening. I live in Leawood Ks, so I’m your neighbor!! I’m planning my 2025 garden right now I want to grow as much as possible for my family. I don’t have a lot of space but watching your show I finding more areas!!

I don't have a whole lot of space either I just don't have a 3 by 8 ft compost compost Mound that I use to garden in. I need to learn how to do vertical gardening.
Here in the Philippines we love to put patola (young loofah) in our Chicken noodle soup, we call it "Miswa Patola"
You just have to saute chicken with garlic, onion, small amount of sliced ginger, salt and pepper then add your chicken stock or plain water, wait till it boils and your chicken cooked and tender then add your miswa (wheat vermicelli) and your thinly sliced loofah (moon or half moon) wait for 2-3mins for the loofah to cook then serve 😊
You can substitute it with regular vermicelli noodles you just need cook it longer and add more chicken stock bcoz it absorb more water than the wheat vermicelli (miswa)
I don't know about cantaloupe, but if you have too many honeydew, you can puree the flesh and freeze it for Popsicles. If it's almost ripe, but not sweet enough, sweeten the puree a little. We don't sweeten it

The last 3 years, I just grow squash and zuchhini for the blossoms to batter and fry. The SVB takes out the plants before the Squash is forming.
For your partially shaded areas, maybe grow Asian greens? like Bok Choy, Gai Lan, Choy Sum or Chinese Cabbages. They can all be stir fried with oil and Oyster Sauce.
How do you batter and fry? Do you stuff the blossoms?
@@Lulu-cp7cn Just mix a bit of flour with milk - pan fry in butter for 2-3 mins. And add salt to taste.

No squash bugs, no powdery mildew! My sweet potatoes are loving their life. Next year. I may skip white potatoes and just grow sweet potatoes.

I had repetitive volunteer plants that popped up in my compost pile. Wasn't sure what they were at first and then realized that they were from the red potatoes thrown in. So we'll see how well they do. Also had lots of cherry tomato volunteers.

Soap and water will kill squash bugs. Housewives would dump their dish water into the garden to kill the bugs.
Doesn’t that affect the edible ness of fruit and vegetables?

Yarrow makes a great tea for PMS with a little fresh ginger and honey

I am growing honeydew and cantaloupe- they came in the garden voluntarily this year! I was only going to do watermelons but now I have 2 kinds of watermelon and the cantaloupe and honeydew. I love how many volunteers I got this year. I hope you are doing well. Thank you for sharing the garden with us.

I live in Kansas also. I have grown Tromboncino squash this year and it is producing great and I haven’t seen any squash bugs! The squash is HUGE! Your garden looks beautiful! 🌻💕

I love your garden tours! I understand why you plant your Roma tomatoes, but I'm a huge tomato lover and I love big slicing tomatoes! I also love the beautiful colors and patterns the hybrids produce. Unfortunately, I haven't grown any in a few years, but I just might put some out next spring.
They are all really pretty! I wish I liked more fresh tomato flavor but I always opt out of it

Wow, that honeydew is huge!! I'm in TX, zone 8. My okra just started producing a few weeks ago. I only have 1 plant, but I'm getting 1 or 2 okras every single day. Sometimes we eat them fresh, sometimes I save a few days' worth and use it in cooking.
Im sure okra does really well with your heat!!

The garden looks amazing! I’m growing a honeydew from johnnys called diplomat and it’s a full slip like cantaloupe. Haven’t tasted one yet so I don’t know how it compares to that awesome monster you just tasted!

I love your videos. One thing I keep seeing is empty space, try to read up bout successing planting, you get more crop from the same space in a short time, the land benefits because it's always covered never exposed to the elements and there is a rotating of nutrients all the time. The channel Not till growers is a great resource to check out. Happy gardening 🥰
Try the sugar baby watermelons it doesn't take up a whole lot of space and they are so sweet. Love your garden and gardening tips. 🎉
Have you tried shade tunneling your tomato patch? Sometimes keeping them cooler can really help keep the blight at bay, probably because they require a bit less watering that the spores love so much.
Love your garden tours! You have much to be proud of. I started my luffa in March and by July I still had no flowers - not even buds. After some research I learned that luffa are sensitive to the amount of daylight hours and I wouldn’t see blooms until we were at our first frost date. Bummer. Being in Chicago, I thought it might be fun to grow sport peppers. I’m glad they’re so prolific because it takes so many to fill a jar. I’ve tried to grow Marconi peppers 2 years now and from 2 different respectable seed companies I’ve gotten the wrong pepper. I think I can still find a use for them…

@@itsbreellis thanks, Bre. Pulling the luffa helped me free up some trellis space for my cantaloupe. There’s no way both plants could have shared the space where they were! As for the peppers I received instead of the Marconi - they’re small and mildly spicy. (Might be Fresno) I made Cowboy Candy 🙃
Try slicing your okra into 1/4” pieces & smother them down with onions, garlic, a diced tomato & bell peppers until there’s no more slime. Then brown a couple chicken leg quarters & smoked sausage. Add it all together with lots of chicken stock. Season to taste. Cook until the chicken starts falling off the bones. Then you’ll have Cajun chicken sausage okra gumbo. Serve over fluffy rice. Most people think Cajun means spicy but it’s not. It’s just really flavorful. You’re going to be addicted. Let me know if you try it.

I tried those sunflowers (2:14) here in Destin, Florida and they only grew half as high and didn't last a week. 😢
Corn (7:05) looks great! My first crop was so-so but an attempt at my first 2nd crop is a total failure ATM.
This year we grew luffa to replace repeated failures at zucchini (8:40). I wonder if it would grow there. It is truly prolific! I can't remember if you've done luffa yet. I think you have on the main arch but not sure. Just brainstorming. Oh, hah hah, there's your luffa! 23:45. Harvest small, the diameter of a large thumb or slightly larger, before they get seeds for best results. Preparing the same as zucchini. Grilled up or baked your favorite way. You should harvest those small ones sooner than later. Once mature luffa dry the whole plant will stop producing and die, I think. Currently my luffa covers over 60 feet of the back of my property!
I just love your strawberry cage! I'm reworking my strawberries again this winter. I'm still trying for a successful harvest, but it is tough here. 😢

Bre there is a category of zucchini that are nearly self-pollinating and highly productive. You get them from Johnny.s. I'm thinking they would help you with production plus you wouldn't remove the insect cloth as often. I chose 2 kinds, Dunja and Green Machine. It's my first year growing them, but another TH-camr gardener who has a science background recommended them for their prolific production (Nextdoor Homestead). I cannot comment on how well they grow because I live in Southern California zone 10; we're into our 2nd month of summer. and I am behind in my gardening. These two zucchinis are resistant to powdery mildew and other diseases.

If you’re going to try any non-paste tomatoes again, you should try Genuwine, a hybrid improvement on Brandywine. They are my absolute favorite!
In Northern KY and yeah, one of the coolest July's ever. My garden is looking great and I haven't even had to cut out my cucumbers because them dang beetles haven't been a problem... CRAZY. It would be a perfect garden year if the rain would just stop! I need SCUBA gear to pick tomatoes.
Glad were not the only ones having a odd july! At least your not having to water much! Hopefully that's not causing to much of a issue with cracking.

Your garden looks great! Try Charleston gray watermelon! They have been a hit and turn a light green and are easier to tell when they are ripe. We live in Oklahoma in the same grow zone.

I’m planning to make some changes for next with what I will grow in certain areas and when. I’ve struggled with the cool weather crops to the point I was going to not try anymore. Instead I’m going to pass on a spring crop and instead grow in late garden season. I’m wondering if your shaded area would work for you for cool weather crops. You’ll have less direct beating of the sun but some heat for growing???

My neighbor gave me a mortgage lifter tomatoes plant. Never heard of it before, but awesome taste and meaty for a beefstake. Will definitely grow it again
That tomato was bred in the 1930's, I believe. Interesting, no?
The man who bred them was able to pay off his mortgage with the sales of the tomato plants he bred, hence the name "Mortgage Lifter"!

Bre, what's the square footage you're growing that much amazing produce in? Have you done the math on overall cost per year between dirt, mulch, soil amendments, tools, pots, trellis material, tomatoes cages, etc...

The backyard is roughly 2000sqft. Id say 1/5 maybe a 1/4 of that is shaded out/chicken area

This shady area is perfect for some herbs, like mint, sage, chives or lovage. From vegetables pak choi, kale and spinach. They will grow slower, but they'll be fine😊

I know you use your rosemary Apple cider vinegar rinse on your hair but how do you curl it to get such gentle curls? Your hair (and your garden) are so beautiful! ❤
6a Mid Ohio and claybase soil in ground beds.I've got a 14.5 lbs and a 15.5 lbs one season and several around 7 lbs that I didn't weigh but they really were great eating but for the size just to big for refrigerator space.More important delicious try Gurney Seeds Company hybrid giant canolope I am raising several again this year but without manure I don't expect over 10 lbs but they have several weeks yet to grow..
Most importantly the taste is delicious.
Corn is easy pollinate just get a 1/4" stick and tapping on the flower just on calm morning several times a week work great in any size rows it works.

The honeydew 👏👏👏 wow! I don’t know how to tell when they are ripe but if mine get that big I have a WAYS to go. I hope they take before the season ends. I’m in Minnesota so it’s unpredictable when the frost will come.
Sometimes they can ripen when they are smaller so just keep a eye for a color change. They will turn more yellow instead of green.
Steam okra, dress with garlic paprika oil. The best..
I’ve barely gotten any beans. I was growing Roma bush and got nothing. I’ve started some pole beans praying I get something at least from them.

I started the cheddar cauliflower from seed. It looks like it's bolting now from all the hot weather but there is no cauliflower at all. Not sure if I will see any this year.
What can I do about grasshoppers? They ate my dahlia, carrots, lettuce, and sunflowers. Your garden is beautiful!!
believe it or not they are one of those things Im always dealing with. Never had them to that degree but the ones around here are pretty big and always a pain.

When did you start your cantaloupe seeds? I started mine the beginning of June and just threw them in my compost pile. Lots of vines but no sign of anything yet.
I started mine the first week of may. They form really fast, you should see some soon! Sounds like your a month behind these
@@itsbreellis yes I just discovered two green ones yesterday and this morning the bigger one had actually turned color overnight. First time growing cantaloupe. I've got Vines growing everywhere. Only just starting to see fruit.
My worst pest every year is the cucumber beetle, I'm gonna try to get some beneficial nematodes this year and spray them before it gets to cold but any tips to control them would be much appreciated 👍👍
I swear those helped me so much this year! Ive only seen maybe 3-4 cucumber beetles and I typically have hundreds of them! I sprayed with them in the spring. Been doing it on and off for the last few years!

Your yard is looking fabulous. I didn’t catch what name of cantaloupe you planted. I’ve never had luck with cantaloupe.
Hale's Best. I used to grow them every year in North Louisiana, always productive, juicy, and big.

they can last years and years! Some seeds lose more germination of the years. Some of my seeds are 4-5 years old. Ill say onions and lettuce are pretty sensitive to this in my experience and after a bout a year or so I have issues.
What pepper variety do you use for paprika? Also have you ever made smoked paprika? Love it!
Hungrain Magyar - I get the seeds from Renee's garden. I actually haven't! Might be a fun thing to try this year!

Have you ever had bacterial wilt spread by cucumber beetles and if so how did you handle? killing al my melon/cucumber/pumpkin/squash plants this year.

Thank you! I planted around 25-26, but I had a few plants not do well and didn't produce. Id say most my tomatoes came from 20-22 plants
I have horrible squash pests in Massachusetts 6a but next year I'm growing those lightbulb shaped summer squash and cheese winter squash. Both I've heard (fingers crossed) are more robust and squash bugs don't like them as much.
How about Jerusalem Artichokes for that shady spot in your side yard?

I started my luffa 8 weeks early & it’s up & over my cattle panel tunnel with not a single flower on either plant! I’m going to try giving them some phosphorus & potassium to see if that will work. 🤞

What variety of Honeydew did you grow? Also, for the first time this year i tried the vining zucchini from Renee's Gardens and it's phenomenal. Most vining types are less susceptible to bugs.

How far apart are your honeydew from your cantaloupe? If you save your own seeds you don't want cross pollination between them. Right now I only have cantaloupe in my garden but I really want honeydew as well next year!
I saved from last year but you could always try to isolate the bloom and pollinate yourself to help make sure but they will cross at the distance I have them
Ginger & turmeric might grow well in that shady corner, or other understory plants...
All those tomatoes only last you a year? Do you give any away?
I dont, I try to preserve as much as possible with the tomatoes. We might do a few sandwiches with them but for the most part I process all of them. Its crazy the amount you need to make some stuff like sauce!
how many honey dew and cantaloupe plants did you plant and how big are your raised beds?
Lufa is used like okra. It’s actually called Chinese okra

mine is a Harvest Right - medium. My medium is great for this space, but you may be able to get away with the small! there's a link in the description if your interested!
Where did you get the melon cradles? I have had watermelon almost get ripe and fall off the vine to early because it got too heavy 😓
Something tells me that she made those melon cradles using macrame. It would be easy to do, I think. Pretty cool, right?
In my experience pole beans will explode with beans mid September

I want to grow luffa so much. I had planned on it but I got hurt and half the garden had to be let go. Next year maybe.

@@itsbreellis I am. Thank you! I had to take some short term disability and then when I went back, realized that I was going to have to leave my job due to all my health issues. But I’m going to pursue other dreams like TH-cam and blogging and becoming a homemaker. The garden I am able to keep up with is spectacular this year!
Do you heavily mulch the carrots going into winter?
Ive never done anything crazy. The greens might die back a bit but they are pretty cold hardy. If it gets super cold maybe consider row cover
Keep your beans on there when it start to cool down they will start producing agin
That was my plan! Hoping for at least one more fav so I have some homegrown beans for thanksgiving!
