There's a bunch of similar products on Amazon for a lot less than $150. I purchased one for less than $30 and makes 10 2in cubes in 18 to 24 hours. But the thing I find interesting is the cube that one cube that pops up. The tray I have has one pop up every time. I guess when ice expands it needs someplace to go. Some times I cut off the clear top other times I just toss it. Any impurities that you get at the bottom of the cube can be melted off using a frying pan. You don't need to heat it. Just place the cube on the metal and it will start to melt. Of course a little heat will speed things along. I used to use a small cooler but the silicone mold insert makes it a lot easier. Thanks for the review.

I am going to need a very good day in Vegas to buy this particular ice maker. Thanks for the review. Cheers!

For the price I will continue to make the cubes myself. Especially since I already use the same cooler for $15.00 off Amazon and cut the cubes myself than use an ice press to get a better look, suck as a 💎 or sphere or keep the squares/cubes that I cut. And I make the cubes in half the time. If they cut the price to the mold to like $15 - 20 they would sell a ton more. Shows $150 for the kit on their site $35 for a cooler 115 for a mold. Do the same thing for $30 and do it myself. The system is way over priced and I have been making clear cubes for at least 7 years now. If anyone is buying this system they are getting robbed.

Try using hot water. It’ll slow down the freezing process but it’ll make more clear ice

That's a good point, we used 80 degree water out of tap for this test. We'll do another with 120-150 degree water and see if we can get all 12 cubes clear.

I've got a different setup and the instructions on it suggest boiling water. I haven't tried it yet but I am curious at to how well hot water will work.

Because this is directional freezing, you don't need to wait so long that nearly all the water freezes. So long as the top is finished, it doesn't matter if the remainder is liquid.

What happens if you leave it in past 48 hours? Will it become cloudy after that time?

Nice vid, guys! I've been wondering about the Ghost Ice system for a while. Seems like a really cool product, but I already have a mini-cooler so would love to just buy the silicone sleeve. Did the sleeve feel pretty durable? I'd be worried about ripping it while getting it out of the cooler. Cheers!

Thank you!! I think you can just buy the silicon sleeve so long as it'll fit in your mini cooler. It's quite durable. We have used it several times since and have pulled pretty hard on it just to test it. It's thick silicone.

Seems easier to make a single block of clear ice and manually cut it into cubes afterwards.

If you want total control, that's the way to go. If you're fine with square cubes, this is going to be faster since no cutting is involved and there's very little cleanup. If you enjoy the process of making your own clear ice and have the time (and space) to self cut, you could definitely have some fun with a single clear ice block.

I will just take cloudy cubes who cares.

Wow! $150 for a cooler with a silicon sleeve tray? And they all did not come out in uniform shape, cubes, or clarity? No thanks.

The price is on the higher end, which is going to be a sticking point. It works well though, and who knows, if they scale up a bit, that price could come down.
