African Blackwood was the preferred tonewood for a large number of traditional wooden flutes - and then restrictions came in. It was a real shame as I wanted to purchase a basic blackwood flute... but I ended up getting back into guitar - so maybe I'll end up with a blackwood instrument anyway!

He will get worn out soon. Use a plastic thumb-pick and metal fingerpicks. It takes some getting used to, but practice and you will get it. It is well worth it. Your finger skins will not be so tired. And, if one ever wants to play a 12-string, fingerpicks are a must! I see many bare fingers trying to play a 12-string. Most often, they only pluck one string of the two string pair.

Cort is one of the most overlooked Acoustic guitar manufacturers imo.
Sure much of their stuff comes from aisa but they also build for other medium tier brands!
I had a solid spruce top, solid mahagoni back cort for long time, it was the best thing ever and easily beat anything below 1000$.
Also with a 42mm fret board it was rather a electric gutiar playability than dreadnought style.

  • @zupfheini

I'm surprised, what's coming out this low prized full blackwood guitar. For sure, there are missing some noble details of handbuilt guitars such as sweet trebles with fat overtones and a real punchy bass attack. But it sounds considerably better than it costs. Nice presentation, in particular the camera. Especially the details such as open pore finish or nut are filmed with perfect focus and resolution, rarely to be found on this professional level!

This is a nice video on one of the few acoustic guitars I've seen you review, Darrell. It's a beautiful looking guitar and appears to be well made with the exception of the so so tuners. I was eager to hear what a blackwood body guitar sounds like. It just didn't sound good to me. It lacks warmth and sounds tinny to me. What brand and size of strings are on the guitar? I changed over to Martin Extra Light M170 80/20 Bronze (10's) on my vintage Yamaha guitar from the early '70's. What a difference that made with both the ease of playing and the sound. It sounds a bit brighter, but I'm getting warmth too. I really like Martin strings! 👍👍👍

I wonder if Cort is making the solids for Harley Benton, this looks like an identical build using different wood choices and tuners. The CLD-15MCE SolidWood is mahogany and the Fishman Presys "module" at the top, which trades classy looks for functional options.

Watching this and other channels dealing with tone woods on acoustic guitars it sounds like almost any hard, stable wood can be used to make these instruments. Blackwood grows rather thin and twisted, so it looks like it would be rather rare and expensive. Especially in large pieces. I see that you are as proficient on an acoustic as on an electric. You make it sound great.
