  • Multiclassing in D&D can be tons of fun, but there are of course drawbacks to it sometimes. I give you my take on what multiclassing is, as well as whether or not YOUR character should multiclass.

    I like multiclassing in a few situations: When it fits the story, when it creates a fun new tech, and when it lets me create a character more accurately.
    I recently ran a oneshot where all the characters were level 10 classic D&D or halloween monsters. All of them are multiclasses, since it wouldn't be possible to recreate the monsters otherwise. I used your _Mimic_ build for that, but also gave them 3 levels in Beast Barbarian to let them have fangs and Expertise in Athletics through the Skill Expert feat. The rest were:
    - _Death Knight_ (Reborn Conquest Paladin 7/Undead Warlock 3 with the Polearm Master feat)
    - _Doppelganger_ (Changeling Assassin Rogue 4/Aberrant Mind Sorcerer 6 with the Keen Mind and Actor feats)
    - _Iron Golem_ (Warforged Eldritch Knight Fighter 4/Armorer Artificer with the Heavy Armor Master feat)
    - (Lesser) _Lich_ (Reborn Necromancy Wizard 10 with the Metamagic Adept feat for Extended Spell and Subtle Spell)
    - _Succubus/Incubus_ (Lore Bard 9/Hexblade Warlock 1 with the Telepathic feat)
    - _Vampire_ (Dhampir Land (Underdark) Druid 8/ Monk 2 with the Fighting Initiate: Unarmed Fighting feat)
    - _Werewolf_ (Shifter (Longtooth) Beast Barbarian 8/Moon Druid 2 with the Medium Armor Master feat)
    - _Witch_ (Hexblood Bladesinger Wizard 9/Monk 1 with the Metamagic Adept (Extended and Quickened) and Mobile feats).
    They weren't optimised, but they were _very_ good at what they were built to do. The Doppelganger could not do damage for shit, but their player really leaned into the impersonation and almost single-handedly took out the enemy rogue (by making the enemy paladin decapitate them).

      That's awesome! I'm glad you had fun in your oneshot!
      And I'm glad that you got to use the mimic build too! I hope you had a lot of fun transforming into a bunch of random objects

    13 in all scores, two levels in each class. The Jack Of No Trades?

      I wonder if there's a fun/actually useful build that involves 2 levels in each class

    I love all the videos here! While I agree that multiclassing for pure mechanical benifits is slightly cheesy, it can be very fun just to, once a day, become a nuke, ofc, only if your dm is ok with it.

      I agree. Sometimes, we all just want to be a cosmos destroying force for 6 seconds a day, and then go back to being a regular person

      @@smilesschemes Sometimes, it even only lasts once second, cuz you have those other spotlight hogs, taking up parts of your 6 seconds! (this is a joke btw)

    Multiclassing in 5e because WotC made it where, the game isn’t designed to facilitate Multiclassing while simultaneously encouraging it to the point that full classes are just boring and uninteresting.
    Classes need to be reworked to allow Multiclassing is an option while making full classes enticing.

    Can you do a build that is like a Master Manipulator. Able to gain nearly anyone’s trust and uses that to build alliances and networks.

    • @smilesschemes
      @smilesschemes  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I do have a master of disguise build on the channel that lets you adopt and take identities to infiltrate and gather information, but a manipulation build... that could be fun

      @@smilesschemes yeah my idea is like this character can basically convince people to do whatever all to further his own goals. Like instead of killing somebody they convince them to pick a fight with some creature that the character knows they could never beat and so IT kills them for the character

    • @justinsalois8955
      @justinsalois8955 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Or like this person can easily build alliances and so can get others to do a task for him like find an item or kill a target or even grant him access to typically restricted areas

      I would say that there are a few unique ways we can do that with magic routes, but going non-magical would make this a smidge more difficult. You'd probably need high persuasion for convincing people to do stuff, and likely a high insight for figuring out what you can say to people that would rally them to your cause. And then having a build that would allow you to further augment your rolls with those two skills

    More so then multiclassing or not this is why I let new player revoke all their level in early game play before level 5.
    Most players come in with a concept that just doesn't pan out of they did the build poorly as theory crafting & in practice are easier said then done though I have never had that issue when a player but as a part time DM you have a better idea of what works & doesn't for builds.
    The amount of people that played ranger & found out it isn't what they thought so I suggest fighter for Martial, bard rather then druid for caster as the ranger or rogue for skill user as the ranger tries to be all 3.
    If a new player had no idea what they want to play my suggestion is usually paladin as you get to experience 1/2 casting & martial as a class that works.
    My 1st character was a wizard but I do not recommend it for most as it is reading of most of the spells.
    Druid is the only more demanding class then the wizard which even I am like no as keeping track of wild shape forms & spells is a pain!
