Love my Eresus walckenaeri. When she was a baby, I switched from fruit flies to mealworm hatchlings, and she absolutely loved them. I just got tired of breeding fruit flies for her alone lol. My jumping spider slings love the baby mealworms, too

@@halbertgonzalez2405 breeding mealworms? There's a ton of videos on it I'm sure. To get the tiny ones you have to breed them yourself. I used screen (like the kind used on doors/windows), Rubbermaid drawers, egg crate, wheat germ, and oats. Add beetles and presto. I breed mealworms and superworms that way. I have 2 dubia colonies and a BSFL colony for feeders, too.

My slings have always had a cut up cricket (Take head and legs off) then I let them feed on the body over night and remove the next day as I find it so hard to find fruit flies in my area. But that sounds like a really good idea might give that a go 👍

I used to be terrified of spiders and honestly feel so bad because I always would kill them out of just being a stupid human and fearful. My husband has a really bad phobia of spiders as well. For some reason one of your jumping spider videos was recommended to me and I instantly clicked on it because of the adorable face I saw. I've been subscribed and binging your vids ever since and today I picked up my first jumping spider at an expo. A beautiful regal peach girl. While I'm still a bit weary of arachnids I actually held this little girl pushing through my fear and I'm pretty sure we are best friends now. It's amazing how this little girl has captured my heart. Now I just need a good name for our new little family member. Thank you so much for opening my eyes to the beauty of arachnids and for everything you do to bring awareness to them.

I found out about jumping spiders from Clint’s reptiles, and I thought they were pretty cool, but didn’t really consider actually keeping one, but then your videos got recommended to me, and now I LOVE them and want to keep one. I have a question though, when you use top opening enclosures, how do you keep them from making their nest right at the top, and then having it destroyed every time the lid is opened?

    • @wolfymudkips4266
      @wolfymudkips4266 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It's really hard not to. Better better using side opening or getting a top opening that doesnt open from the very top but more of the middle of the enclosure so then the hammock isnt broken

They are so cute 🥺 i found them in my garden and took them inside bc its turning to autumn and the black widows where i live are… beyond plentiful. Around this time this year they always eat the beneficial bugs in my garden :( so i had to prevent these sweet ladies from becoming snacks! I made both of them their own temporary enclosures and fed the sub adult(Named Sibyl) a small cricket and the sling(Named Francis) a couple flightless fruit flies! They both ate eagerly and climbed into the webs they made inside their leaf hides 🥺❤️ im obsessed and u sparked it!! I love u sm thank u for inspiring my newest passion like a year and a half ago

👋 I dont comment much on videos, but I think you are such an underrated youtuber. You bring such positivity and awareness to spiders, you helped me overcome my fears. I own one of my own Ts now and I love her to bits. Shes so smart, gentle and interesting. I hold her safely every day for sometimes hours (shes sits on my shoulder while i work ( fully cushioned chair, plush carpet there for safety). I think its so wonderful and you have a huge impact in the spider community, a very big impact i hope you realize how important and amazing you are. You go above and beyond to provide only the best for each pet u own. Keep being amazing! ❤️ You have taught me so much about spiders, and helped others overcome there fears. Now if i see a wild spider in my room etc, i give it some water in a bottle cap underneath its web because in houses spiders dont have a water source, if i see one outside that everyones freaking out about i take by hands and gently move them to safety, no spiders get harmed or killed on my watch, such misunderstood creatures. Thanks Kat for being such a huge inspiration to me and allowing me to overcome my fears❤️ You are loved by all your fans

I have to admit I absolutely hate spiders, I think it's more out of fear/arachnophobia than anything else but I've been watching some of your videos and lately I've been giving them a chance, earlier this morning while I was out watering my watermelons there was a these tiny jumping spider's, I put my hand down and one actually jumped on to my hand,.. now when I looked down I saw that my hand had disappeared and it was replaced by a giant spider but in reality it looked like a cute mole, they're kinda cute, anyway, I didn't freak out and I let him crawl around in my hand until I put it back down towards a vine and he jumped off. Just thought I'd share, great videos by the way👍

You have helped someone: aka myself who is terrified of spiders and such into someone who love’s entomology. I used to actually cry and shut down around spiders 🕷 now after watching the love you have for so many; I decided to own quite a few jumping and velvets they are so sweet and full of personality, those sweet things helped me grow and love them and appreciate them on how important they are for ecosystems. I also have a few leaf bugs and stick bugs that just have me in awe everyday. But long story short, the vids you create helped me overcome a borderline debilitating fear that I thought I’d carry with me. Larger tarantulas still make me kinda stand stiff, but man are they pretty and I appreciate them from afar. Lol but man little velvets and jumping spiders have been my gateway and have melted my heart 💜

She isn’t there every year, but only the babies! Only through watching your videos, I have gotten to understand her! She is used to me around her, when she was a baby, she would run up her web! I would love to get a jumping spider to take care of! I have been looking around my 3 acre yard for one! Maybe they are not here! I fell in love with them through your channel and the Lucas videos that have popped up! Would love some advice!

my 2 velvets are still doing great, but have gotten pretty big. some of my bug friends on discord said putting some of their web with them when you move enclosures is good. idk if that's true or not!

I use coconut fiber in my plants as a way to hold moisture longer for them never had mold issues with it but I’m sure everyone’s experiences are different 🫶🏻

I made a house spider a pet recently. He was in my spare bedroom where I sneak a nap sometimes. I gotta say this guy is pretty darn big! I looked up common house spiders in Michigan and I'm pretty sure he is a (SIX SPOTTED FISHING) spider. I see these guys a lot in my basement. And unfortunately in my living area too. I fed him a couple time and he did a very aggressive take down the first time. I fed him again three days later but I don't think he was that hungry yet. He hasn't eaten the second feeding yet. How often should I feed him Kat? Once a week?? Let me know what you think please. Thanks in advance for your help! 👍👍☺

Hey, I have a question: is 40x40x40 Terrarium good for a Jumping Spider? just one Jumping Spider a Finger Nail big. I want have the perfect home for my Jumping Spider. I know it is hard to make the perfect home for Jumping Spiders, they are so picky in nature :))

When you say that coco-fiber molds really easy, you must not be referring to coconut coir (fiber) which holds water and doesn't mold at all.
That's why we herps use it for reptile bedding.

@@babysnakes1433 thanks! It’s not misinformation though! Pretty common but I’m glad it’s working for you :)

@@tarantulakat I'm not trying to be contrary or a troll or anything like that. I know you have friends in the reptile world. Ask them. Coco choir does not mold. That's how coconuts can travel thousands of miles in the ocean and still grow into a tree.
If you have used coco choir in the past and found mould, it must have been something else in the enclosure like left over food or feces. Please dont be dismissive about this. You and i are both animal lovers and i have seen plenty of people use inappropriate substrate and bedding for their anmals. This is kind of important.
