    Great review, Steve! I've had a pair of UB52's since they came out. You nailed it in regard to how they sound out of the box and break in. I was a bit worried when I first got them as they seemed muted and soft. By 50 hours they really opened up but I noted that they continued to open up quite noticeably with 150-200 hours+. You have to give them time and you ned to pump some power into them to break them in. They are very balanced and neutral and have the ability to cast a huge soundstage in all directions with great imaging. Because they are so balanced they are indeed a speaker you can listen to for hours with any kind of music but yet they are very detailed and dynamic. I pair mine with a subwoofer.

    • @sean_heisler
      @sean_heisler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m not sure I get why you “hope” for that. As if Elac is missing the mark or something. If you want the highest transparency and have the gear to back that up to make listening to music enjoyable then stop hoping for more budget priced Elac models to do what you want and just move to a different/more expensive speaker that has what you want? To imply your’e hoping doesn’t make sense.

      @DigitalPhilosophers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blah5387 You‘re right!
      I guess the Unifi Reference will be such a more expensive speaker. A step up in the line so to say, between the unifi and the adante.

    • @DigitalPhilosophers
      @DigitalPhilosophers 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sean_heisler There is nothing wrong about hoping for something.
      That doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the Unifi that’s out now.
      The lack of transparency is the choice of Andrew Jones, not a consequence of the price point. I owned a bunch of bugdet speakers that are highly transparent.

  • @andrewwebb4635

    I’ve been impressed how well your speaker tests work audibly for the bookshelf speakers but somehow it hasn’t sounded any good for these two floorstanders (earphones through iPad over 1080p). Noticeably inferior sound quality! Possibly poorer due to the fact they scatter more reflections round the room? Possibly poorer choice of music?

    Great review, as always! I love anything by Andrew Jones - I wish he would have made these bigger, 5" woofers don't really deliver the scale I look for these days.

    • @mikegoddard7354
      @mikegoddard7354 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you watch some of his reviews, his experience has led him and many other speaker designers who communicate with him outside of Elac that find the 5 1/4" driver is perfect for sound production. The elac Adantes which were originally 5000, had the same setup. It was a large 8" passive radiator with a 5 1/4" driver inside and he is using the passive radiator to cancel any distortion and create a crystal clear sound.

      @mikegoddard7354 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@decoryder But that's what a sub is for no??? lol and you got a point buy vs lets say 2 8" woofs and 3 5's is only 1" of displacement missing. Again we are going for cost efficiency as well. You can get your fatty's, but that's going to be like 5+k, why just buy a couple nice subs instead and save some money

    • @decoryder
      @decoryder 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikegoddard7354 I wish I had the space for subs, that would be great:) But honestly, if I had floorstanders that required subs, I wouldn't go with those floorstanders to being with. I've had many speakers over the years, and in terms of floorstanders, the small cabinet/woofer speakers never really deliver on soundstage, and visceral impact... Remember the ELAC Debut 2.0 F6.2, which Andrew also designed? Ok, a friend of mine has these, and they do have a really good scale to the sound. I wish the UniFi, which are probably much better, would go in that direction in terms of surface area and cabinet size. Anyway, I'm nitpicking, I'm sure these speakers will become as legendary and successful as the original UniFi's.
