    Just got my UF52 and I´m just about 15 hours in but man, these are allready the best speakers I ever owned and heared this far! I had these so far:
    Elac Debut 5.1
    Wharfdale Diamond 11.2
    Elac Debut Reference
    Polk ES20
    Klipsch RP600M
    Elac B6
    Mission LX-3 MKII
    Triangle BR03
    Monitor Audio Bronze 100
    Dali Oberon 3
    And these are - at least for me - the best 🏆

      Ditto. I think that some basic measurements are essential to a good review. You might want to consider adding your own sensitivity measurements. Sometimes manufacturers pad this spec a little.

    I had been researching and viewing reviews for two weeks to find affordable modern speakers to pair with my completely modern system. After this review, I was convinced to purchase the UF52s. I just finished up the speaker break-in, and they are astounding. Originally, they were about $700 a speaker, but I got them on sale through Amazon right now for $461 a speaker! Cool!!! Great Review!!!

    I think as far as texture and tone, if you have a cone that is designed properly and is dampened correctly you can get all the texture that is demanded. Also I think the spectral decay shows that he got it under control. I wish I had the money to just buy these up now

    Hi Ron, nice work! Do you feel the bookies have some of the classic advantages over the floor standers (e.g. better imaging, driver integration, speaker disappearing)? Also wondering which ones for low to mid level listening with a sub in mid sized room?

    Earlier today, I watched your video on the Uni-Fi 2.0 bookshelf(s) and these floor standers, as with them, sound
    like home-runs for Andrew Jones. (again). That Marantz 30 has really got me intrigued as well. Sean @ Zero
    Fidelity seemed to be of the opinion that the Marantz 30 would be a good choice for a guy like me that enjoys
    low to mid level listening. The Uni-Fi 2 with the Marantz could be a good marriage. Get me a decent shag-rug
    and I'm good to go.

    Great review as usual ! 👍🏽 You got me interested again with the Elac brand (I have a pair of the original UB5's in the guest bedroom and that's only because it couldn't come close enough for me to give up my Logan's. I'm a big fan of Andrew especially after meeting him last year at C.E.S in Vegas. He's very down to earth and you can feel the passion he has for his craft. However, I went to their website with the intent of possibly purchasing the new Ub5 2.0 and the center speaker to give them another shot of unseating my Martin Logan's but their cookies policy just ruined it it. The terms aren't worth the risk of my privacy. Sucks but hopefully the new Uni's become the next bigger thing out there.

    Ron, I wanted to compare the bass response for the UF 52 and the UB 52 to decide which speaker to purchase, but the info you posted for the UF 52 at 15:39 and 16:09 and the equivalent info you posted for the UB 52 at 14:31 and 15:49 appears to stop just above the 200 Hz crossover point where the woofers come in. Would you please add a chart that shows what happens at and below 200 Hz to help me decide whether it is worth the extra $600 to get the UF 52s? Your review is very helpful, thank you!

  • @FOH3663
    @FOH3663 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Ron, much appreciated.
    Something I immediately see, the impedance of the bass range makes this thing nicely efficient within the bass punch/kick region.
    Not efficient in the typical sensitivity sense ... what I mean is with impedance upward of 10ohms or higher, the current needed is modest ... thus less I(squared)R losses, minimizing thermal compression.
    This translates into responsive, punchy and agile bass.
    Andrew Jones, ... his Kung Fu is good👍

  • @CaffinePrinter

    Thanks for the great review! Hmm, these seem to be better than the DFR62 that was reviewed before. Do these still lack bass like the Debut Reference towers? Seems like the specs are not that different. Also how do these compare to the SVS Prime Pinnacle that you also reviewed? Seems like those get lower down, but arenas as clean. Would be great to see a comparison of these.

  • @DismasM
    @DismasM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I've never understood why someone would buy bookshelf speakers (on stands) vs towers. They take up the same footprint. And good stands with bookshelves cost almost as much as towers from the same fam. That was a very thorough review. Thanks!

    • @wcg66
      @wcg66 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Joe Murphy towers can overwhelm a small room and placement for towers can require too much space. Bookshelves are usually cheaper and sometimes the bookshelf member of the family sounds better.

      Bookshelves with dual subs>>>>>>>
      Majority of floorstanders aren't digging as low or as accurately as a pair of good subs. For the money, I'd always prefer bookshelves with subs.

    • @NightFlight1973
      @NightFlight1973 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can disconnect the sub from the speaker, which is good because best placement differs for 99% of rooms. My towers requite a sub, because they don't reach down. So why buy that tower? I'll let you work that out for yourself. :)

    Many thanks for this. Helped me shortlist these with the Monitor Audio Silver 200s. Currently, the Elacs are sub $1000 from Crutchfield. I was prepared to A/B these two for a week or so. But the comparison lasted less than 4 hours. The MA's are beautifully made - the Elacs are not. But close your eyes and it's all over. The Elacs are so lovely to listen to. The bass is decent - not as extended as I expected with 3 woofers. However, listening to some bass test material (Flamenco by Adam Ben Azra and Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side) I was delighted with good speed and really good texture - the wood in the string bass is so clear. The absolute killer for me was the mid-range, especially voices. Listening to Chet Baker and Joan Armatrading was truly emotionally involving. Upper frequencies are nothing to get excited about (sorry lol) - a little polite maybe. Detailed for sure but never bright or 'tizzy'. The Elacs took up more room than the MA 200's and my wife and would have loved to have owned another pair of MA's - we are long time fans since our old MA3's. But, the Elacs won the sonic battle by a mile. For reference, I drove both with a Bluesound Powernode N330 in a 'great room' that is 25ft x 25ft with a 20ft ceiling. The POWERNODE drives both to very loud levels. So, I think even a fat 25W could be enough in most rooms. Thanks again, Ron.

      Great review. I have a similar sized room. How far apart are your speakers and what’s your listening distance? Have you ever felt the need for a sub? Have you tried the Elacs for movies as well? If so, how’s the dialog without a center?

    • @michaelknibbs
      @michaelknibbs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@phillipzito5880 The speakers are about 8 ft apart and the listening area is not central in the body of the room. They are off the wall by about 15”. They have decent base. Neither I nor my wife like extended base or gut felt. We don’t watch much action stuff. But on movies with dialogue and music we both feel they are excellent. Staging and naturalness are the key characteristics. Boxes disappear- even up close. Off axis is very good. Not electrostatic but wide open. Btw. Had some connection drops with Bluesound.

    What a great review! Any idea if these would pair well with Audiolab's 6000A integrated amp for movie watching in 2.0 and music? :)

    • @juanmillaruelo7647
      @juanmillaruelo7647 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love Audiolab gear, but these are a little short on power. These speakers need headroom or they'll sound a big dinky, flat or even grainy in crescendos, peaks, transients. (80-100 wpc minimum in my experience)
      Not for listening volume, but for the dynamics. You will definitely notice the difference. They sound like different speakers. (Look at the power Elac has allocated to the integrated Navis, basically a powered UB52 and you'll get the idea.)
      But if you already own the very nice 6000A try it out first before throwing money at the 'problem'.

  • @nico3641

    So how many inches from the wall is the best placement? I'm guessing the rear ports prevents it from being right up against the wall?

  • @jeffsloane8628
    @jeffsloane8628 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video Ron! I'm with you on the veneer. The finish ELAC put on the original unfi slims and the magnetic grills are missing on this new model. Especially with the aesthetic of the new woofers, with their one-piece cones (no dust caps), bring to the party. I bet ELAC is on this and a reference or slimline model will rectify both issues.
    So glad Andrew is just engineering away and ELAC is pumping out his designs. I've sent quite a bit of money their way. Would love to hear a high-efficiency design from Andrew. I know the enclosure would be larger, but a concentric driver design with an efficiency of 90+ dB that extends into 40 Hz region would be AWESOME!

    Dear (potential) Elac-Owners and dear Ron Brenay,
    has anyone had the experience to compare the Elac Uni-Fi CC U5 against a single BS U5 (the ones from the series with the satin finish)? What can I expect from the additional low end driver? Could the composition of the CC U5 drivers cause problems in a vertical position?
    I was considering moving my two BS U5s to another room, buy three CC U5 and set them up horizontally and vertically for a left-center-right configuration. Any objections as to why this could go wrong?

    I've been looking at three speakers lately. The wharfedale 11.2 and the 225. I'm curious how they compare if it's worth the price jump. Also how they compare to the triangle broea 3. They seem Better Built and more forgiving of placement near a wall than the triangles. Most of the time in the home theater I don't have a choice but to put them too high and close to a wall. When I do 2 channel with the turntable I could pull them down and out. They're just really hard to find reviews for.

I'm looking to replace my old tiny home theater speakers and would love these to work for me but so many reviews are pointing me at the SVS ultra towers or klipsch 8000F. I know there is a price difference but it's UF52's plus center now or SVS ultra and no center till later type of choice. Plus I'm not the type to upgrade every couple years so I know whatever I buy now will have to keep me happy for 10 years. Has anyone on here tested both?

    UB5 was my first ELAC speaker and I love it. I've been having it for 1.5years and a couple of months ago I added the new center channel (UC52) from the new UniFi 2.0 line. I have immediately noticed that the UniFi 2.0 doesn't have magnetic grille and that the build quality and overall solidity of the speaker was bellow what I was used from UB5.
    I thought that it's probably because it's just a center speaker and I blind-fully purchased UF52 hoping that it would have similar build quality to my original UB5 but I was very, very dissapointed.
    1. Magnetic grilles are no longer there. If you like your speakers without grille, you will now see the holes.
    2. The build quality is very, very bad. I have a set of Polk TSi300 which are three times less expensive and I the new UF52 are in line with those
    3. The legs for the grilles are made out of a very cheap plastic and both of my speakers came with broken legs! not only that, but some remained stuck in the speaker housing itself and difficult to remove.
    4. One of the speakers came chipped on a corner and you can see how the material looks like
    5. In terms of sound, I think they are very similar to UB5 but have a bit more bass
    I don't understand why ELAC has cheapened out a series that started to be very good. It leaves me no other choice but to look for a different brand as I believe the value of UniFi 2.0 in terms of build quality is matched by a 3x less expensive speaker.
    I have returned my UF52 a couple of hours after getting them.

    Hi Ron. I'm having issues with my Elac towers and also center.
    I got today Denon X3700H and same speakers full set bookshelf, center and towers. I ran audyssey many times with speakers position changed. Few times i got some speaker not giving phase error, but always 3 total. Last run it was both Front and Left with center phase error. Before that was center, left front and right surround. I guess this is just Denon Audyssey issue with echo in the room. Its first time i experience this problem. With old 2400h i didnt have any issues with phases.
    Im not sure if i should swap wires on those reported speakers? I use normal wire without bananas. Im curious if this is Elac speaker problem or common with Denon audyssey 32XT???
    Maybe you can ask Andrew if Unify 2.0 has some internal wiring that confuses Denon room correction or its 99% room echo issue? Cant be defect with speaker as it sounds ok when i tested with stereo and all channels with movie.

      @@meohmy7793 I don’t know how to reconcile what you’ve said with my experience.
      I had a three week demo with the Elac’s. Benchmark LA-4 preamp, AHB2 amp, and RME ADI-2 FS DAC. Literally no component of your description is accurate. The A5.5 has a massive soundstage (width and depth), better low level detail retrieval, better dynamics, and it could play considerably louder than the Elac without any signs of distress or compression.
      So that’s the most accurate and low distortion preamp and amp in the world, and a top 1% DAC. And I’ve got fifteen years of audiograms behind my current evaluation.
      The A5.5’s sound more like my Revel F228be’s than any other speaker I’ve yet demo’d. The F228be is definitely not the best speaker I’ve heard, but it’s a good one. And the A5.5 delivers a much bigger share of its performance than the Elac did.

Amps, AVR's and IMO preference e.g. having to limit options of really good low wattage power amps like tubes. Klipsch, Tekton and others have proven it. They need to get with the program.
