I had my leg in traction for a week or so after fracturing my femur... Strange thing is, as I nodded off I would get this incredibly intense pain around the fracture as my muscles started to relax... I wondering if the muscles relaxing allowed the two parts of the bone to come together and touch briefly causing the pain ?... Years later I am getting a similar pain from my arthritic metatarsal just as a go to sleep or relax deeply.... Most excruciating pain I have ever endured was when I Had a sample of my thigh bone taken with a syringe... I thought they were taking a blood sample and when the syringe scraped the bone to extract the sample I screamed in shock and my thigh muscle tensed around the needle and the poor bloke couldn't withdraw it... He kept smacking my leg and telling me to relax !!! Fat chance. Anyone else had similar experiences ? Especially regarding the pain when drifting off...

Traction is just for temporary immobilization and pain reduction
