We watched the whole cabin series today. These stories were the perfect cap to the experience. Enjoyed every moment! How blessed we are that you chose to share this hallowed ground (and the time spent there with friends and family)with the world. Thank you!
One of the most interesting videos. Martin the more you share the more we see the uniqueness of a life well lived. I cannot thank you enough for being willing to share your unique soul with your fans.
Marty, I so enjoy your yarns about living in the woods and admire all the ingenious tools you have "noodled out" of parts & pieces I look forward to your videos & yet I am glad you don't make too many . look daily for a new one so it's special when you provide a new one. Keep up the great entertainment & again many thanks! John aka Jack
Thank you very much for your stories.. I really enjoy them.. When i was a little girl my grandpa would tell us stories at night.. we all loved to hear them..
Hi Martin! Thanks for the wolf stories, a favorite animal to me, I owned wolf-dogs for many years. All gone now and I miss them terribly. Beautiful day there, the Cabin's looking really fine and ship-shape after all the work you've put in. Take care, be safe, stay warm. Looking forward to whatever you choose to share with us next, thanks for this upload.
I miss the days of story telling. My grandpa always had stories and I remember just listening, engaged, interested in every detail. No phones, no internet distraction, just free. I'm only 27 years old and I know that most of my generation can't appreciate story telling or cant be engaged in a conversation without looking at there phones. It makes me sad and helps me remember the times I had with my grandpa.
Hey Martin this is great I sure enjoy your stories and your videos keep them coming so amazing have them birds eat right out of your hand you are awesome thank you so much for posting have a great day
Thanks for sharing your stories, I would've been worried about about the wolves and wouldn't have slept outside, you truly are connected with nature, love your videos, keep on keeping on, Best of luck always and thanks for sharing your videos.
I remember about 15 years ago a pack of wolfs ran right past us at camp near Lutson...like we didn't even exist. What a sight!!!! Just moved back east to Ottawa and really miss northern Minnesota. Told my wife that when the time comes that my ashes will be brought to northern Minnesota
Great stories! Mr/Mrs gray jay even made a cameo appearance. As always thank you for sharing! We just had a black bear sighting about a 1/4 of a mile up the road from our house yesterday and coyotes have been around on the hill behind our house too this week. They both have never been this close to us, usually a mile or so away.
Love the story's Martin... glad to see all is going well...keep us posted I think we like to hear from you as much as you like to post... until next time...be safe...
Just a very random fact. There is a soccer team in England called Wolves. There insignia is a big old wolfs head. Well I did say it was random!!! Such wonderful stories Martin. Many thanks.
Really enjoyed your stories Martin, you are a joker, lol. Where we are we have wolves and have been lucky to see them pass close by once while out hiking. We saw it about 70 feet from us & our dog saw it, looked at me with what I interpreted as a scared look, then he sat right down beside me as we watched it go up the bank. It was on a mission with it's mates we found out a few minutes later, but what an experience to see them in real life that close. Every once in awhile we see them here and we stop and just watch each other, cherised moments for sure, all the best to you and family!
His reaction totally surprised me as he usually rushes right up to other dogs since he's still puppy like at 1.5 years old and not totally tuned in to dog socializing yet. It was interesting to see his instinct kick in, just hope it works when he sees a bear or cougar:)
Two years ago, deer hunting in northern Wisconsin, we could hear them howling back and forth around dawn, which isn't uncommon. However, about 15 minutes later, I heard fast, loud footsteps coming behind my blind. I turned to look, expecting a deer, only to see a wolf trotting about 50' from my blind. I clenched my cheeks and my rifle tight, luckily he went right past me, never paying any attention to me. I'm thinking the howling that morning was this big boy had been separated from his pack and was looking to rejoin them. Regardless, it was a great experience that I'll always remember!
You happened into a great moment. I agree with it being a gathering call. So many times at dusk I will hear just a few calls as they gather for the nights hunt.
Wonderful, loved your stories, Thank you Mr.Martin you have brought so much joy into our hearts, for myself I love everything about your cabin, wild life and the food you cook, sometimes I think I can smell it.lol take care, keep those vlogs a coming.
I think for a while they were getting used to us but then there was a hunting season on them for a few years. After that they would even avoid our trails.
Glad to get another video from you Martin! You are so fortunate to have wolf encounters. (safe ones that is) Some say they don't bother people, others say than do, my thoughts are; sure they will in certain situations but I sure hope people don't start "doing away with them because they might". It's sad to me how people move in on the wild life & kill rather than learning how to live with them! I would love to see a wolf in the wild! I love the way they "know" where people are & are keeping "track" of them. Thank you for sharing this Martin, I really look forward to more!!! LOL Judie
I have heard that too! I'll bet the wolf are around most of the time checking out what people are up to, when people are in their area. Maybe they like being fairly close to people in case of food being left out, just maybe. You said they never touched the bologna, but checked it out. I would imagine the junk in bologna would repel them. I want to hear lots about things you know or have seen, please keep making these awesome videos, they are just full of the greatest stuff!!! LOL Judie
Thanks as usual for sharing Martin, a very entertaining story. I'm from south Australia & our stinking hot summer is almost upon us. Grrrrrr. So I hope we see some videos of u at the cabin when it's snowing. Ps. I've never seen snow. 😊 Take care Martin, look forward to your next video
Good to hear from you. I just got a call from a friend who is at the cabin. He was moving his car out to a better road because a big snow storm was moving in. He was excited about it.
This a classic example of a life well lived. If you never go anywhere or do anything, and have no memories of time well spent, you have no stories to tell. Except maybe the superbowl ya watched back in 20xx when somebody did whatever. Not my cup of tea, so to speak. I don't get around as much as Martin, but I've had good times and good friends, and have the memories. I plan on making many more.
The wolf at the end of your video looks like a typical grey wolf. Here in central Ontario adjacent to Algonquin Park, we have the eastern red wolf. A smaller animal and a distinct species. I alway think regarding the amount of food we have to feed our dogs to keep them happy and healthy; imagine that that wolf has to catch it all himself! Coyotes too! You really have to admire the wild canine species! Nice job on the video!
I've heard them in my part of the Ontario bush more times than I can count but in all my years I've only seen them on two occasions. Both times they were on the frozen lake when we were ice fishing. The fishing wasn't great (few lake trout and some Ling) but the photos we took are hanging throughout the cottage and shed.
Good stories - enjoyed that. No wolves in my neck of the woods. There might be a few in northern Colorado, but that's open to debate. Thanks for sharin!
Some locals up there do it a lot. Mom, Dad and a daughter all with a different call are quite a team. They will go out the next day to check for tracks and usually find the wolf tracks in theirs.
My brother has had his liver transplant and even mowed part of his yard last week. I will be back in canoe country first and then really looking forward to a long stay at the cabin. Thanks everyone for your concern.
G'Day Marty ..My son and I really enjoyed the stories! Thanks so much for sharing. Zack says Hi and do you have big mean bears? Keep up the awesome stories. Rex and Zack
TheNorthwoodsman1 Too many Hollywood movies mate!!! He watches Nature documentaries etc but he loves Action..He wants to send you a drawing of your cabin..Do you have a po box?
Martin, were you alone when you filmed this? Because if you look at your side window in your cabin, there appears to be some kind of light in the upper right hand corner that goes on and off, fades in and out. Just wondering about that light. Love your stories, thanks for sharing them.
So you cut loose with a howl. I note you were the closer one to the door. I'm surprised Jim did not consider that geometry, considering there's a lock on the door and all. "Uh, Marty? Open the door Marty." "Well now, let's not be too hasty." "Marty? Hasty? Marty, open the door!" "How do I know you're not a wolf? They're pretty wily, y'know." "MARTY!"
For a continuation of this conversation I recommend the book Wolves of North America (vol1) by Stanley P. YoungIt is a very enjoyable read that takes exerts from journals and diaries from the likes of explorers trappers government records etc, this from over the course of history.
As a boy i loved to hear stories my grand parents uncles and father would tale. Thanks

It is fun putting them together so we all win.
I have "chatted" with wolves late in the evening while at the cabin near Atikokan that I used to visit. I loved hearing your wolf stories.
Thanks, it is sure a special time when they are calling.

I am happy that they are well received. So much just can't be caught on camera when it happens.
Martin we love watching you! Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks, I am very happy to see how many are enjoying the cabin.
The cabin is looking good after all the work you did last year. Great video Martin thanks!
Thanks, I had it in the background for good reason.
Thanks for sharing your stories, I would've been worried about about the wolves and wouldn't have slept outside, you truly are connected with nature, love your videos, keep on keeping on, Best of luck always and thanks for sharing your videos.
Notice that I was only 30 feet from the cabin door. Once in Canada I woke and had a coyote looking down at me.
Thank you for the enjoyable stories.

Just a very random fact.

You know how special those encounters are and apparently your dog has the proper respect for them too.
His reaction totally surprised me as he usually rushes right up to other dogs since he's still puppy like at 1.5 years old and not totally tuned in to dog socializing yet. It was interesting to see his instinct kick in, just hope it works when he sees a bear or cougar:)
Look forward to more Wildlife Pics & Videos to go with these great stories!!
They are coming up.
You're a treasure Sir! I really enjoy the stories and life's lessons. Thank you!
You are welcome.
The cabin looks great. Careful with those wolves, Martin.
I give them all the room they need.

In their winter coat they look so full bodied but I have seen them in the summer when they are not thick.

I think for a while they were getting used to us but then there was a hunting season on them for a few years. After that they would even avoid our trails.

Amazing story, really enjoyed
Thanks
Thanks for the stories Martin. Great stuff.
The wolves make it easy.
It's a good thing he locked the door. I didn't one evening and a wolf got in and took my dentures... the Moose didn't stand a chance after that!
They are cunning that way!
The KY Woodsman You know that's quite scary!!
How much did it cost to replace your dentures. Lol.
Great story.
Glad to get another video from you Martin! You are so fortunate to have wolf encounters. The wolves seem to have an extra sense or two. One old logger told me that when you see a wolf it is because the wolf decided to be seen.
I have heard that too! I'll bet the wolf are around most of the time checking out what people are up to, when people are in their area. Maybe they like being fairly close to people in case of food being left out, just maybe. You said they never touched the bologna, but checked it out. Marty great story! The hungry gray jay tried to steal the show but you hung in there like a champ and pulled it off! Thank you
Those jays are not going to sidetrack me!! No the window is still in the woodshed.
Ok my mistake
Marty are you concerned about the wolf population killing off the dear
The wolves eat a lot of deer but when numbers are low the wolf numbers will drop too. It all works out OK.
great story hope you are well. Can't wait till winter at the cabin this year.
I have a friend at the cabin right now and he should be all white in the next few days.
Man I love this guy
Glad it still working.
How can we help but love Marty he relates to the best part of us and makes us feel human
Priceless😊👍🙏❤️
Thanks for the nice story Martin
You are welcome.
Great stories... you seem to remember them like they just happened yesterday :)
Some of those encounters come back very clearly.
This a classic example of a life well lived. If you never go anywhere or do anything, and have no memories of time well spent, you have no stories to tell. Very well said my friend.
We need these stories at night and in front of fire.
That would add a lot to them.
Great video thank you have a great night and be safe i look forward to the next video.
Thanks, I more ready to post in the coming weeks.
Another great vid Martin.
Love it when i see "the north woodsman" on my vid alerts.Probably be snowing in ur next one.snow here soon in Michigan
A friend is at the cabin right now and he should get a few inches. A nice treat for him during his visit.
Parts of Northern Michigan had snow on the ground this a.m. Thank you for another interesting short story Martin!
I love your videos, another great one thanks so much.
Glad to share those special times in the northwoods.
Amazing animals, when you see a wolf with it's summer coat from either end its awfully thin.
I really enjoyed this video. Looking forward to more stories at Martins cabin
Thanks
Great video thanks
Glad you liked the tales.
Whew buddy! Hahahha that was a good list of stories.
Just an example of the good times we have had at that cabin over the years.
Great stories - thanks!!
You are welcome.
Coyotes (and hybrids) on the other hand......
A good wold sighting is a thing to behold and enjoy.
Good stories - enjoyed that. No wolves in my neck of the woods. There might be a few in northern Colorado, but that's open to debate. Thanks for sharin!
Glad to share my wolves with you.
Again thanks for the video mate!
As always, happy to share such a great place.

The howls of the wolves always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up! Thanks for sharing your stories.
Hard to imagine it until you have been out there when they started in.
Have fun with it.
Sandpoint Idaho ;)
Cool stories. I didn't know they would really come if you howled. Yikes! Angel from The Bay
Some locals up there do it a lot. Mom, Dad and a daughter all with a different call are quite a team. They will go out the next day to check for tracks and usually find the wolf tracks in theirs.
I always enjoy your videos...I have not seen anything in awhile...hope you post soon!
My brother has had his liver transplant and even mowed part of his yard last week. I will be back in canoe country first and then really looking forward to a long stay at the cabin. Thanks everyone for your concern.
enjoyed your video
Thanks
hi Martin ,good morning sir++
Hello and thanks for watching.
I know you are very busy, just wondering if you have published any books? Truly enjoyed this and all of your videos.
Never a book, there are a lot of canoe journals at canoestories.com and a link to that on the youtube homepage.
Uh oh..It looks like canoestories.com gets a 'bandwidth exceeded' error. Looks like you are a celebrity now!
Thank you for all your Awesome videos:: from Craig Nash 814 935 1906
👍🇺🇸🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽 Martin another great video that wolf was as great as China fireworks I'm going to put this in stamps just ignore that comment
Good stories about the wolves. It made me wonder about any bear encounters you may have had?
Well now there is another video idea.
G'Day Marty ..My son and I really enjoyed the stories! Thanks so much for sharing.
Zack says Hi and do you have big mean bears? Keep up the awesome stories.
Rex and Zack
Hi, We have bears but I have never been confronted with a mean one. Mostly they are like a big hog out looking for a meal.
TheNorthwoodsman1 Too many Hollywood movies mate!!! He watches Nature documentaries etc but he loves Action..He wants to send you a drawing of your cabin..Do you have a po box?
Good stuff!>
Thanks
Hey Martin it’s daisy from group two from camp!!!!
Hi Daisy, I see you found more wolf stories.
"Uh, Marty? Open the door Marty."
"Well now, let's not be too hasty."
"Marty? Hasty? Marty, open the door!"
"How do I know you're not a wolf? They're pretty wily, y'know."
"MARTY!"
My Brother and I spotted a wolf watching us while we were fishing near our home in NM
I think they like to keep tabs on us.
The wolves of hawk's pond. Would make a great title to your book !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It does have a ring to it!!
Hahaha! Poor Jim. :)
He is up at the cabin by himself right now. He did not even ask me along, I wonder why.
For a continuation of this conversation I recommend the book Wolves of North America (vol1) by Stanley P. YoungIt is a very enjoyable read that takes exerts from journals and diaries from the likes of explorers trappers government records etc, this from over the course of history.
Enjoy the stories!
Thanks
