In a world where modern professional racing is restricted by regulations, the X1 is a machine born from a fantastic "what if" dream of Gran Turismo: "What would the fastest racing car on Earth, free of any and all regulations, look like?" And the only way to experience it is in Gran Turismo 5. Initially the X1 Prototype was a single-seater canopied prototype wing car with covered front wheels. Powered by a 1500ps direct-injection V6 Twin Turbo, on paper the performance would have been spectacular, producing a top speed of 400km/h (248.6mp/h) and a maximum lateral acceleration of 6G. But once Red Bull Racing was brought on board to be a partner, the X1 really took off. Adrian Newey, master aerodynamic engineer and Red Bull Racing's chief technical officer, suggested "Fan Car" technology, a long-held dream of his, be added to the design of the X1 Prototype. A "fan car" is a vehicle having a fan mechanism which forces the air out from underneath the car to reduce air pressure under the car's floor. The resulting suction draws the car to the ground surface and creates a massive amount of downforce. And because it can create downforce regardless of the vehicle's current speed, it dramatically raises it's cornering speed capability even in low speed corners. Thanks to the insight of Mr. Newey, the X1 Prototype design was transformed. A large fan was added to the rear end of the body to implement the Fan Car technology. Plus, Newey provided additional input into the the design of the front and rear wings and rear diffuser, dramatically refining the vehicle's aerodynamics. As a result, the virtual X1 Prototype was able to achieve an astonishing level of performance. Its new top speed was 450km/h (279.6mp/h), with a maximum lateral acceleration reaching up to 8.75G, pushing the vehicle to the very limits of what a normal human body can withstand.

ku420guy There are tons of places and cars most people can never drive in reality, but they can in simulation. Also, there are MANY quality sims out there (meaning you could actually use experience from the sim in reality to a HUGE extent, like 99%). And some excellent stuff is coming this year.

It's a video game you fool. It's called Gran Turismo 5. He just has a steering wheel controler hooked up to it. Vehicle sims are way bigger and way more expensive than a PlayStation. SMDH.

Adrian Newey is one of the greatest minds in Formula 1, and possibly the world in what he does. If he thinks that this car can go this fast, I will not argue.
And he uses no computers when he designs a cars aerodynamics. He's old school. Drafting table, pens, and imagination. All his drawings are converted to 3D graphics by "subordinates".
This car CAN do these speeds. There's just one problem. A driver capable of withstanding such ridiculous g-forces in literally EVERY corner and absolutely fearless.
Tyres would also be a problem BUT if this car was just made for the purpose of making lap records and not a full race, then tyres wouldn't be a problem.

@@adrianveidt4815 No driver can drive this car to it's full potential. In a track like Suzuka, this car is capable of going FLAT OUT at over 320kph in the S section... That section alone would KO a driver with the sheer amount of g-forces. By comparison, today's F1 cars have to break in almost every turn in the S section and they don't reach anywhere near 300kph on that section either.
But yes, this car can be build AND it would've been as fast as in the game if a robot was driving it, or by remote control.
One thing however that I am sure is that the tyres wouldn't even last 3 laps with this car even with the best tyre a manufactor can produce.
@@grimm6jack I think a fighter pilot might be able to assist with g-force resistance. Or an adapt a fighter pilot suit for the driver. Something tells me this would just be for lap records tho and not actual racing.

megahurtz30 accounting for driver stamina, take the driver out of the equation and make the car autonomous (not for the sake of motorsport though because it's not a sport if there is no human driving the car). Audi proved with the Piloted driving RS7 that autonomous cars has a place in performance driving. Obviously the auto-pilot would need to be tweaked to handle much higher speeds than an RS7. Purpose of making something like this though is questionable but it's fun to imagine "what if"

I remember spending hours upon hours perfecting this and getting gold. It was extremely difficult to learn on my own. But worth the accomplishment.
Even seb vettel struggled because if you look carefully In the gameplay section in the top right corner you can see his lap times. The nbest he got was a 1:08 with a wheel. I don't think that would get him silver.

What i seriously find funny is all the people in the comment section getting so upset about a "Made up car".. They even say in it's description that they made this car together with Red Bull Racing just to find out what kind of car you could get if there were no rules whatsoever.. It's a fun project and i really liked it.. They atleast try to be innovative and give the players alittle more freedom other than just driving normal vechicles all the time.. Nobody is forcing you to drive the RedbullX1, geez ^^

0:56, Adrian Newey said about "chaparral type solution", it was (since a long time a go) a banned concepts in F1 which maximizes the ground effect by shaping the floor and adds fan which blows out air from bottom to the top, literally mimicking jet engine with upward thrust. It's by far produce much more downforce than just a front and rear wing, while also reducing drag.
On top of that it provides excellent aerodynamic grip at lower speeds where other aero devices lose their effectiveness. With that you can shave off tons of time in slower corners and you dominate tight tracks like the Hungaroring.

Fantastic car concept and awesome that Newey and Vettel would help out with this test. I just can't see anyone doing more than 3 laps in this without wearing out the neck or puking violently with those astronomical sideways G-forces.
It was so fun to drive this car in GT5. Trying for all gold times in the Vettel challenge was really difficult, but very rewarding once you did it.

My red bull hits 511km/h that means 308 mph. Red bull X2010 has a speedy 1479HP and 553 lb/ft of torque, and has a smaller wing, while a red bull X2011 has also a larger wing, and even more powerful version of a red bull has a massive 1489 HP and 550 lb/ft of torque. Thank you, TH-camrs.

nah. modern tech could make virtually indestructible 3d printed carbon fiber or even graphene cabins for the drivers to keep them safe. I think safety tech could keep up with this these days

The fairings covering them are attached to the suspension so as to move with the tire and brake assemblies, and where the tire actually is in the side of the fairing is cut-out and there is an aerodynamic cover over the hubs and rims that moves with the steering.

The G forces on cornering would likely kill a real driver.
A driver would have to wear a G suit like fighter pilots, they can pull 9 or 10 G's, but over the course of a lap it would be too much for a driver to handle and still maintain focus.

The car uses a under car fan/vacuum system Check out a car called the "chapparel 2j" it produced 1.5g of downforce at all times.

This is the concept behind the Chapparal 2J taken to the extreme. The car in concept uses both active and inactive downforce--that is, fans to create a suction towards the ground at any speed and wings to boost that downforce at high speed. Yes, that much downforce is possible. I have my doubts that tires on that car would last more than 5 laps at those speeds, however. Just my $.02.

1) In order to defeat the huge aerodynamic drag doing 400 km/h in straight line with THAT level of down-force, you have to have an engine with over 1500 HP...
2) In order to enter the corner at THAT speed, just the down-force will not be enough, one must have some sort of revolutionary tire compound that would improve the grip colossally.
I think this demonstration is BS. I believe the car could beat an F1 by some 7 secs, but not 20. The wings on that car sure don't look like they can produce that much down-force, besides, no way in hell can the human neck survive that G force in the corner..
Since the extra downforce is not generated by the wings, but by the fan, there is no extra drag and ~1,500 hp is sufficient for 450 km/h (the car is highly streamlined). The peak g-force of 8.75 g is crazy, but it is possible to use a simple system for taking some of the load (e.g. 50%) off the driver's neck (by supporting the helmet laterally with rubber bands). The combination of a hugely powerful engine for propulsion and a very powerful fan for downforce makes the acceleration, braking, and cornering you can see in the video possible. The tires need to be very strong, but the compound can be quite regular. Of course the tires would only last a few miles. But in order to make tire life reasonable, the car's weight could be decreased using extreme materials (which are illegal in F1).

Artas1984 fan which sucks air from car's underbody... That means that drag is not depending on car's speed - so it can have huge amount of downforce in slow corners and low drag on straights (as fan can be disconnected from engine via clutch). It's based on real technology - look for Brabham BT46 "fancar"
The idea is you replace drag creating wings with a fan to create downforce.... It's been done before as someone mentioned also there's other tech where they would put an upside down wing essentially on the bottom of the car instead of creating lift it would suck the car down that was banned from f1 long ago

It use the same technology as the 1978 Brabham BT46 F1. Look at the fan at the back, it's a giant vacuum gluing the car on the road. It's such a good design that it was outlawed immediately, because it was the fastest F1 ever.

Yes, I would agree. The tyres would have to be ridiculously strong, and the rims themselves would have to be able to prevent the tyres ripping themselves off. Apart from anything, I don't think there is a human alive that can maintain consciousness whilst driving this, have the fitness and the lightning-fast reactions to drive it. It's a fiction, and that is where it should stay, I believe.

There was a man who strapped himself to a rocket sled, accelerated to something like 300 MPH, then came to a complete stop. He experienced about 23 G's and survived. He did this about 74 times, coming up to about 43 G's. The highest recorded G experienced by a human was 214, although the person who experienced such force experienced it in a crash and spent 18 months recovering.
The human body can take a shit ton of force. Maybe not sustained force but a shit ton nonetheless.

Far from reality mate. A fan car cannot achieve this. The Brabham was banned because of the rocks it spat out the back. I think that is the reason why the lotus f1 crashed or the driver was just a sore loser.
True, but the races it did race, it was bloody fast. The Brabham team wasn't really competitive at the time, but as soon as they went with the fancar design, they finished their first race with over 30 seconds advantage over their main competitors. The Chaparral 2J was over 2 seconds a lap faster than the competition in the class it raced.
And don't forget, that was before aerodynamics got as complex as they are now. The X2010 uses conventional aero as well, with the enclosed cockpit and tires. Combined with an engine that produces 1500 bhp and a weight of just 545 kg, the performance of this car is far from unrealistic.

Another huge advantage of the F1 car is braking. If you see the braking points of an F1 car they are vastly closer to the corner than the MotoGP bike. The highest g's the F1 car will pull is during braking.

Mr Ecklestone and Bratham tried this in 77 or 78 I think with their F1 "fan car", to compete with Colin Chapman and his JPS Lotus wing car, it won a race hands down and was promply banned. One issue was the rocks and debris that the fan would spit out at trailing drivers. Banned under the infamous "no mobile areo devices" rule.

So, if making their own formula for the car, and the safety restraints are taken out. Then does it have movable control surfaces for downforce and a rolling/leaning chassis/suspension? I must assume it's turbo and super charged?
The biggest limitation to racing cars is not the powerplants or the aerodynamics...its the dependence on TIRES ad road friction to steer and brake. Until we get "moving vanes" for braking and steering, the limitations will stall speed developments from going faster. One thing would help racing and the environment would be to use rubber in the asphalt. I know that in some European countries they recycle their tires and use the rubber in the pavement. In racing that would be a big help to the problem of grip, and I don't understand why that has not been recognized and utilized...

My fav track, all newly built or cars I've made changes to go here first before using them anywhere else.
