How could we hate you? You're like 19 listening to Pink Floyd. I don't think you know how meaningful that is to your listeners who grew up on Pink Floyd. They were cerebral iconoclasts who were different from virtually everything going at that time. That you can celebrate the originality which wowed us back then and share your enthusiasm on TH-cam is really nice.
Just subscribed. If you really like Pink Floyd, you have a lifetime of listening to look forward to. I'm 72, been listening for almost 50 years. It never gets old. There's really no band like them.
I truly enjoyed listening to DSOTM with you. Thanks for sharing. In terms of the meaning of the album, consider the far side of the moon, also known as the dark side of the moon. This is the side of the moon we never see from Earth. It is dark because the sun doesn't shine on it. It's just that the moon does not rotate and that side is always facing away from Earth. So it is "dark" because it is unseen. In this context, this album is about the unknown (death, the great gig in the sky). Lunatic is a word derived from lunaticus meaning "of the moon" or "moonstruck". It is an old term referring to a person who is seen as mentally ill, dangerous, foolish, or crazy. Lunacy was once an official medical diagnosis and legal term. Believe that. So the album is pointing out that we are lunatics because instead of appreciating that we all share and fear the same unknown fate, we spend life/time finding meaning and purpose in material concerns like money (have and have nots) and divisions (us and them). When we're young we waste time cause we don't know any better. When we're older we waste time because we're lunatics fighting over divisions we create. The last song, Eclipse, is basically saying that the inevitable is coming for each of us, we don't know when or how, but when it comes all a person has to show for oneself is the sum of one's thoughts, feelings, acts, deeds, and the impact those thoughts, deeds, and acts had on others. The unknown always prevails and may come without warning. My favorite line, in the song Time, is "All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be." Meaning, when you die, that's what will define your life, no more, no less. At the end of the album, the heartbeat continues. You're not dead yet. There's time. Breathe in the air. Don't be afraid to care.
The neat thing about the album is that there is no end because the heartbeat continues even after the last song plays and even if the first song starts again. For example the next time through, "Speak To Me" sounds different because now those"noises" have a context. And with more understanding of the lyrics it makes more sense and as one gets older the music takes on new personal meanings. You never hear Dark Side the same way twice. The theme of the album according to the band is the stress and pressures of life on a traveling rock 'n' roll band. So, things like the fear of plane travel, time constraints, death, having to deal with money issues, personal conflict on scales large and small, societal limitations on choice, and societal expectations against creativity, but ultimately there is a message of perseverance. Don't let others or even your own dark side hold you back from achievement. In spite of their individual fears and hardships each band member fought the hardships and came out on top. Except one former member. This gigantic message will resonate through the rest of The Floyd's discography.
If you were to look at the album cover from 1973 you would see that the heart beat on the front cover continues throughout the album onto the back cover and back onto the front cover...
Wish You Were Here is their best album, so it would be crazy to skip that for Animals. Don’t get me wrong, Animals is a phenomenal album as well, but it has no where near the creativity, consistency, and cohesiveness that Floyd had on Dark Side and WYWH. Animals and The Wall are very much the Roger Waters show, and while Roger is himself a genius, their work still takes a marked decline after he takes the full reigns.
Don’t feel you have to know everything about this album in a day. It takes a lifetime to truly understand this masterpiece. I’ve been listening to it for 20 years and I still find new things in it. It’s truly the greatest album of all times. There’s a reason it’s in the library of Congress!!
Waters (the lyricist) has said about "Us and Them": “The first verse is about going to war, how in the front line we don’t get much chance to communicate with each another, because someone else has decided that we shouldn’t. I was always taken with those stories of ‘the First Christmas’ in 1914, when (the soldiers) all wandered out into no-man’s land, had a cigarette, shook hands and then carried on the next day …The second verse is about civil liberties, racism and colour prejudice. The last verse is about passing a tramp in the street and not helping.” As to that last line, “There is no dark side of the moon, really. As a matter of fact it’s all dark”, the next line ( a remark by the Abbey Road doorman) was intentionally cut off: “And the thing that makes it look alight is the sun” - which is rather too positive an ending for such a “dark” album. You may as well do their next album “Wish You Were Here” as there’s no going back now, man, you’re down the rabbit hole.
Fell down a rabbit hole tonight watching young people listening to Floyd for the first time... I'm so jealous. I wish I could go back to my mid teens and hear it all again for the first time. Peace to everyone finding solace in this incredible music right now.
Eclipse is the perfect tie-in to the rest of the album. Every line references one of the other songs in the album, calling back to the other themes presented. And even though the album itself is alive, and the whole heartbeat going through the entire thing, the overarching theme really is death. That duality, which you see constantly throughout the album like in us and them, ties the whole thing together. It's beautiful.
Truly the epitome of an ‘ album’,, it’s meant to played from beginning to end.. it flows seamlessly, it’s lyrically VERY impressive, ancillary instrumentation - sax , female vocal awesomeness show they didn’t care about showing off their talent , just making the best art
Dark side is one of the most most peaceful protests that you can listen to. Us and them talks about the division in society, those of us who are down and out, down on our luck but not being recognized, and how the division between those “with and those without” is what wars essentially are about. So glad you are finding the messages that PF is sending out.
Hahaha... Welcome to Pink Floyd. At some point you will be listening to this in a dark room with candles and letting the music wash over you. Enjoy the journey.
The way you reacted to the lyrics to "Time" reminded me of the first time I heard them over 40 years ago; no Pink Floyd fan is going to hate you ... you're on the same journey as us.
Us and Them is about the futility of all wars. It talks about the elites who don't care about who lives and dies, just the lines on the map. It also talks about the truth about wars and the rich and poor. Brain damage is about mental illness clearly. Eclipse is pure genius. It is a spiritual take on life. Few people notice that when they sing everything under the sun is in tune, the word tune is sung out of tune. Indicating that something is not quite right with the world. The message at the end is basically saying that it is all an illusion, which it is. The moon is all dark, it is the sun that illuminates it.
This album, to me, is about our life cycle. As you progress in life and continue to listen to this album, you will find just how much it resonates with your own life, continually relating to many of the verses you may not quite get right now. Sending love, success, happiness and a smooth journey to you.
Hey Jony, I can see by your thought processes that you are an intelligent person. Whatever you put your hand to in life, give it 100%, at college and in work especially. The songs played in each class may not always make sense or seem worthy of your time, energy or money. Yet in time you will find develop an awareness of what you enjoy and capable of. You can also balance your life making a dollar to pay the bills and build a good life plus do what you enjoy for a hobby or side business in time. Talk to people you want to be like and learn from them to, sometimes more from them than in a class.
I think I commented before, but this is one of my favorite reaction videos of all time. I will be 60 in 2 weeks and have been listening to them since I was 12 and I still haven't figured it out but, it sure is fun trying. I hear something new ever time I listen them. Thanks for sharing I really enjoy watching.
Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin raised the bar on song writing and, as a result, there are literally hundreds of amazing rock songs from the 70’s from them and other bands inspired by them. Every band aspired to produce music of the same quality as those guys and many succeeded. It was an amazing era for rock music. Once you’ve fully explored these two bands, check out the other rock bands from the 70’s and enjoy the ride. But pack a lunch, because you’re in for a long ride. And that same decade produced an amazing amount of awesome R&B and funk music. Even much of the disco music from the late 70’s was well-crafted and featured great musicianship and writing. I’m enjoying watching you discover these masterworks. I look forward to more videos from you.
The album is about the challenges of life. Breathe is a set up for the rest, it pushes the importance of empathy (a recurring theme from Floyd) . On the run is about travel and the pressures of getting there on time. Time is the most obvious, don't waste it. It ends on Breathe reprise where he goes home to his parents for a funeral, Great Gig is about the stages of grief. Money is pretty self explanatory. Us and Them is about conflict, the first part is war and how the people killing each other have more in common than the people sending them to war. The last part is the haves and have not's. Any Colour you like is a reference to a quote (he never really said it) that Henry Ford said about the model T Ford car, "you can have any colour you like as long as it's black" the song is about the illusion of choice. The lunatics are indeed politicians in the newspapers and it ends on wrapping it all up with everything is working until it isn't.
in us and them, the first half is about wars, the second half is about the rich/poor divide. back then, homeless people were called 'down-and-outs'. the general message is that all wars are about money and it ends with the message that everyone goes through their days chasing wealth, while an old homeless guy dies for the want of the price of a small meal
Don't rush yourself, but I'd love to see you react to Echoes. It's on Meddle, and I recommend it when you want to disappear for about a half hour. There's a live version from Pompeii but it's split into two halves. Also totally worth the trip.
Great reaction! David Gilmour, on lead guitar and vocals; Richard (Rick) Wright on keyboards and vocals. Roger Waters on bass. Nick Mason on drums. Dick Parry on saxophone. Next please do their Wish You Were Here album. btw, Roger Waters’ grandfather died in WWI and his father died in WWII.
Chronologically 'Wish You Were Here' is the next album up. Same awesome musicianship, brilliant poetic lyrics, and that killer sax even makes another appearance. You also get a similar flow like Dark Side of the Moon. Try not to spend too much time fixating on the lyrics on first listen... just a suggestion. you'll have plenty of time for that. Like the rest of your life! lol. Just let the whole experience wash over you. As you may or may not know by now, the original co-founding member of the band had a mental breakdown early on and had to leave the group. This album references that tragedy among other things.
Thank You I can't wait to check out their whole discography. I'm am a advid rap listener mostly conscious rap so sometimes I can't help trying to analyze the lyrics but you are right as a lot of albums I listened to I always find something new every listen so I'll just enjoy the music next time. It is also crazy because while I was reading the lyrics it said something about a member leaving and that they mentioned it in some of the songs.
@@fiendjony778 the issue of madness is referenced often in their music. (Brain Damaged on Dark Side) as is war references. Main lyricist Roger Waters lost his father in World War ll, and his best friend and co-founder of the band Syd Barrett to insanity. So you'll hear them return to these themes often in subsequent albums. The lyrics are both personal but are easily applied universally at the same time. It is part of their genius. Their music can get pretty dark at times, but it is a beautiful and mind-blowing darkness. Enjoy the ride.
The fact that you were so enraptured with this masterpiece that it caused you to make a long video is quite fine with us. It shows that you "get" the trip Pink Floyd are giving us all. I am enjoying your reactions greatly! New subscriber!
This music is so emotional for many of us. This album still holds its magic after all the years it’s been around and still brings a tear to the eye when I listen to it.
This is one of the most legendary albums of all time and my personal favorite. There's a popular urban legend that the album was created to be an alternative soundtrack to The Wizard of Oz. If you start the album when the MGM lion roars for the third time, before the movie begins, the film and the music are supposed to synchronize in lots of interesting ways. The band and producer say that it's not really a thing, but you can find examples of it online where some have edited the film and album together. The synchronization isn't perfect, but you can get a sense of what the legend is all about. Another legend exists which asserts that the reason that it falls out of synch is because the second reel of the film was lost when they initially recorded the album. I'm not suggesting that all this is true, but things like this certainly add to all of the trippiness and offer a glimpse of what it was like for a lot of us hearing this stuff for the first time.
Wow thanks for the info you got me wanting to research this now that I listened to it 4 times I could honestly sees some songs fitting in perfectly tbh but I'll check it out.
This music came out on a vinyl disc. We had to get up, walk to stereo, and flip the disc over to hear side 2. As such, there is a natural break in this rock opera between Gig in the Sky and Money.
I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (Ummagumma) and saw them live in 1971 and 4 more times after that. For me This is the BEST band of all times. Now I'm 71 years old and still listen to them everyday.
Hi Jony, I discovered this masterpiece back in 1974 in the summer of that year, I’ve never grown tired of it, I’m now 65 going on 66 and have been a lifelong admirer of Pink Floyd’s music, this I think can be best described as existential which is a word I had no concept of back in the day, I am so thrilled that you get the same vibe as I got and still do, we are all on the same page in the western world when confronted with these issues challenging us as human beings, John from London, UK
You got Pink Floyd, I am 60 something and was just as awe struck by this incredible album as you where. I still listen to this album and it brings me back to a time when music was a journey and not so commercialized.
Great reaction and good analysis man. Next? Lots of people will suggest their favourite album which might confuse you. Me? I'd say listen to Pink floyd as they evolved musically, i.e. follow their releases chronologically: 1973 Dark Side of the Moon 1975 Wish You Where Here 1977 Animals 1979 The Wall They had earlier and later albums but these four, I would argue, cover their musical best.
YEAH BOY !!. You know, i used to go to some pink floyd hommage concerts and when that sax hits the song in Money, people go craaaaaazy jumping and pushing everywhere haha it was really amazing. Each album is very special with his own way and concept. Its so interesting, they are very talented artists! It could be nice if you take a time some time to discover more of their albums! You should listen to the song Shine on you crazy diamond :)
as a child of the 70's I have listened to Floyd in many states and consciousness's and they never fail to both put me at ease and also make me think. Brilliant band
Cool review. Back in the day we had things called 'newspapers' that people would read every morning. But you're right, the politicians would normally be on the front page.
Pink Floyd listening is even more dope with the lights out and headphones on Re your noises in the background. Try Wish You Were Here album next, another cerebral epic!
Gotta disagree. Headphones just don't do it justice. Dolby surround 5.1, power amp and full range with a subwoofer. The rest is right, but you just have to feel it and headphones work but it doesn't do it justice.
Great reaction.... glad you liked it. Btw... Dick Parry on the sax. You should try Animals (the album) next :) Yes, DSOTM will provide a new experience every time you listen to it. :)
Just watched part one and about to watch this part 2 but before I do I wanted to comment on something you will kind of curious about with a verse from the song I believe it was "Breathe"! Anyway the verse is "all you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be!" I do not think that that is meant to be a negative idea! Rather that we are the sum of our experiences so all that we see and touch everyday is all our life will be and this is asking us to see and feel as much of Life as we can!! The more that you touch and see than the Richer your life will be!!
my gosh yes thank you that verse changed my life for the very reason you mention. it’s a call to try new things. just as the point of the melancholy of ‘time’ is about not wasting it.
Young man , you're one heck of a reactioner . bless you and keep it going .may I suggest you check out the British band ,Yes ,you won't be disappointed .💎💎💎💎
Brilliant brilliant brilliant! As someone who grew up listening to Floyd. I would highly recommend Echoes Live at Pompeii where the guys play in an empty Roman Amphitheater. It's a perfect chance in these days of making music from a computer to see how stuff like DSotM was done. Echoes live at Pompeii you get to see who is doing what and the kit they had. Oh and BTW it might just blow your socks off!!!
@@philshorten3221 Yes I get that. I would not be asking for you to do it all in one sitting. Perhaps a months apart! It's just that only doing half a song is poor. Doing the live version isn't even the best quality as the audio version has SO MUCH more involved in the recording. Head phones are a must to hear everything! SUCH a great song at 23:32m. You owe it to yourself. Other people have done it. Check out Weeboo Reacts.
@@oldman9578 Possibly more than that. I have listen carefully over the years and can hear many sounds. Then there is the whale noises which were Gilmore's guitar and many of the other back ground sounds and guitar riffs. Amazing!
Loved watching your reactions man.. Don't worry about the paranoia. It happens to all of us on our first listen. I think its coz there is so much going on in the record. Keep it up dude.
On “Us and Them” it’s about what separates us as people and how we still have things in common but we are split through things like war and social classes. I’m only halfway through the video so you may have found out after this point but yeah
Hi. Watching you listen to The Beatles albums makes me so happy. I was 10 yrs old when they started so I grew up with them. So grateful you get to hear our music with real musicians. Your interpretations are pretty spot on also. You are one smart guy with a beautiful spirit. Good luck with all you do. 💜. Pink Floyd is so great also. When u can’t figure something out in the music remember people did a lot of drugs back then. The music was written to be enjoyed high and tripping. Certainly not all music. It was a different time then. We did make great music !!!!!! I’m not recommending doing any drugs !!!! But just imagine the music in that context. I’m rambling sorry.
Watching this almost a year later and honestly, your reaction is still much like my reaction now. I first heard this when I was 5 or 6 and am 36 now. It is even better the older you get because the music and lyrics hit different.
A lot of great songs in this album, my favorite is Any Colour You Like, only wish it's 3 times longer. Of course you have to go and chop it to pieces. haha
My favourite album of Pink floyds was I am 65 when the album came out I must have been 18 this changed my life. At least you're listening young man! thank you !
Brilliant reaction, so genuine. If you have a few moments try to watch, ‘ Pulse ‘, Pink Floyd live in Pompeii, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Thanks for your creative integrity, good luck.
Amazing reaction, I am glad you are going down the rabbit hole of Floyd. It’s an amazing journey and one that you will keep with you for the rest of your life!
Sit back and let it wash over you. Don’t think too hard about the lyrics cause they will store into ur mind subliminally and the meaning will come . Feel it . We used to takepsychedelics in the 80’s and go to SF golden gate park laserium and watch the Pink Floyd laser light show ti this album al the at thru laying back watching the lasers inside the dome . Changed my life forever . This album is in my soul my mind and my body forever and always . Facts
You can always take your own meaning from any Floyd song. For me Us and Them is about the gap between the rich and the poor, hence the line "for want of the price of tea and a slice, the old man died".
So nice to see, someone from the 'younger generation', discover how genius Pink Floyd's, Dark Side of the Moon, truly is. Arguably, (and rightly so), the greatest rock album...of all time. It is absolutely brilliant. British genius. Each. And. Every. Track. No other album...comes close to the brilliance of Pink Floyd. Only The Beatles...could ever compete against this masterpiece. (And The Beatles...do give Pink Floyd a run for their, 'Money'). Or...should I say...Pink Floyd gives The Beatles, a run for their money...with this gem. Two thumbs up. You have a new subscriber, and a like.
This album really was a big part of my teenage years circa 1993 in New Mexico. At the Blake's Lotaburger across the street from Highland High at lunch time everyday, this group of kids were always blasting this from their parked car and we would hang out. I tried psychedelics for the first time around the same time I started listening to more Pink Floyd albums. I really like the album Animals too. Anyways, listening along with you I became so emotional and it made me cry listening to the music and remembering that chapter of my life and all the stuff that was going on with my family and friends. This is some potent stuff and why we love art. Thanks for posting this. It was cool watching your reactions as you are coming from a new perspective and era of thought and music.
Don't hate you?!? Are you freakin' kidding? NEVER! You DO know what they mean! They have meaning just for you alone! That is the beauty and you get it. Hate you? Love, dear young one. LOVE YOU!
One of the joys of watching someone experience Pink Floyd for the first time is seeing them appreciate the versatility of this band. They can sound like angels, they can sound like ethereal space music, like musical philosophers, but then they can get hard, they can get dirty, they can bring the fire, they can bring down the funk. Sometimes they'll do it in the same song, for shits and giggles, just because they can. Their album The Wall is more of balance of these styles, but if you want to hear Pink Floyd when they're just there all pissed off and dropping bombs, then Animals is the album.
The Dark Side of the Moon is certified 14x platinum in the United Kingdom, and topped the US Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart, where it has charted for 990 weeks.
PINK FLOYD, "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON". Fantastic reaction, 1973 this started what lasted I heard, a 40 year run. The Album charted in the Top 100 consecutively. Money was their first radio hit. Not until the song "ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL" Radio speaking, played on the airwaves. Actually their other classic songs you would only hear on the FM classic Album stations. Years later you'll understand that the 60's, 7O'S, 80'S, and mid 90's this was the best music. ever.
This is a fantastic reaction. It was great joining you as you listened to what's been my favourite album by far, for almost 50 years!! It's also great to see your interest in the lyrics. The base player, Roger Waters, wrote all of the Floyd's lyrics at the time came up with fantastic, thought provoking lines. Keep enjoying .👍👍👍👍
Indeed a timeless classic, which is why this album has spent a total of about 19 years on the Billboard 200 album charts since its release... far more than any other album ever recorded.
When PF was recording this album Paul McCartney and Wings were in another room at the same studio. When on break between sessions they took a a portable cassette recorder around. Like to the studio cafe. Members of Wings can be heard along with sound techs, engineers and employees (like the janitor and cafe help).. I believe it was the janitor who said there is no dark side of the moon, matter of fact....
In 2023 this album will be 50 yo and is as relevant then as it was in 1973. It is timeless and incredible. When this was recorded, there was no sampling, the editing for time and money and other effects were all done by literally cutting and pasting audio tape, that was running around the studio on mike stands. The guy who says there is no dark side of the moon etc, was the doorman of the studio and the, other voices were roadies and other random people. The band asked them questions about life and then used their answers. It is the greatest album ever.
It's amazing that you are just feeling this album. I felt it the first time when I was in high school, almost 45 years ago! Time ticking away indeed! Welcome to the Pink Floyd universe!! pass it on...
The founder of Pink Floyd was a guy named Syd Barrett, and years before this record came out, Syd...had a funny turn. That had a profound influence on Roger Waters, and pretty much any time he wrote a song about mental health, it was him grappling with Syd Barrett going mad and just trying to figure out what it all meant. I always interpreted Brain Damage especially as more of that -- "There's someone in my head but it's not me" is very much bout Syd, I think.
Me too. Plus the line ".. and when the band you're in starts playing a different tune" was a reference to the artistic conflict between Syd and the other members of the band, as he wanted the band to go in a different direction. I believe the line " ... and if there is no room upon the hill" is a reference to "Fool on the Hill" from the "Sergeant Peppers" album which had been equally groundbreaking just a few years earlier.
Band = perfect. Album = perfect. You have listened the perfection. There are many great bands, past and present, but none will ever be like Pink Floyd. You can't even make a comparison because they don't look alike nobody. They were just perfect and different from everyone.
Great reaction. This is the very first album I bought when I was a kid. After almost 50 years later, I still get the chills when I play it, especially with The great gig in the sky.
My theory is that if someone hasn't changed their whole entire world view of music by the end of "Brain Damage/Eclipse" then they basically live ON the world... not IN it.
FYI, the extra dialog was recorded comment from various people around Abbey Rd at the time of recording. They were asked to comment on following 12 questions: “What’s your favourite colour?” (to ease the interviewee in) “Why do rock and roll bands split up?" “When was last time you thumped someone?” “Why did you do it?” “Did you think you were in the right?” “Do you still you you were in the right?” “Are you frightened of dying?” “Why are you frightened of dying” (the likely prompt to Puddie Watt’s ) “Do you ever think about the dark side of the moon?” “Do you think you’re going mad?” “If so, why?” “What do you think of The Dark Side Of The Moon?”
Your reactions stand apart from others, you are trying to comprehend and shift to a new level of self enlightenment whilst actually bothering to look things up rather than just guess and fake emotions. Well done !
It's so Cool to see young people like yourself enjoying the music us older generation grow up on. Each of their songs lead to the next.In other words the album tells a story. Great videos and never give up the of all music, new and old. See if you can find Black Sabbath -War Pigs. I think you will like it,you did say you liked the lyrics to songs, right well War Pigs will blow your mind. If you can ,get the video. Outstanding.
The interjections "I don't know, I was really drunk at the time...no dark side of the moon really..." All these were Roger Waters asking visitors to the Studio various questions and recording the answers. He did get a bit fed up of some answers so he started to record the postman, the cleaners, the trash collectors...apoarently the more extreme snippets are from those guys "I've been mad for fucking years..."
Yes indeed. There is pleasure gained from seeing a new generation discover musical genius.
ERIC WEINMAN No, we love and appreciate him!
Ah......discovery of days past.
Riiiiiight?!? We were ALL 19 dude! 🤔 And doing homework & chores to Floyd earlier than that. 🤫😒 not to date myself... 😉🌬🐰 #ENRGYZRBunny
You nailed it. It’s truly meaningful. We were so fortunate to grow up with this. It feels great to see younger people learning.
Just subscribed. If you really like Pink Floyd, you have a lifetime of listening to look forward to. I'm 72, been listening for almost 50 years. It never gets old. There's really no band like them.
I just can't express how special it is to see someone hear PF for the first time. Keep going and don't look back.
Nicely said
The neat thing about the album is that there is no end because the heartbeat continues even after the last song plays and even if the first song starts again.
Excellent reaction to the music i grew up with. I think you're ready for Animals now
Animals already? You’ve got to be crazy! :P
Animals is way better in my opinion.
@@kennyjeezus2014 WYWH > animals
Wish You Were Here is their best album, so it would be crazy to skip that for Animals. Don’t get me wrong, Animals is a phenomenal album as well, but it has no where near the creativity, consistency, and cohesiveness that Floyd had on Dark Side and WYWH. Animals and The Wall are very much the Roger Waters show, and while Roger is himself a genius, their work still takes a marked decline after he takes the full reigns.
To each their own.I'd rather listen to Animals.
Don’t feel you have to know everything about this album in a day. It takes a lifetime to truly understand this masterpiece. I’ve been listening to it for 20 years and I still find new things in it. It’s truly the greatest album of all times. There’s a reason it’s in the library of Congress!!
It's very greasy, indeed.
The last verse is about passing a tramp in the street and not helping.”
As to that last line, “There is no dark side of the moon, really.
Tbh, by far it's better to listen to Pink Floyd in your early adulthood. Like this guy.
Witnessing young people experience Pink Floyd is one of my favorite things lately
“Stereo” is that left/right thing. Pink Floyd , Queen used stereo to its FULLEST! So glad you opened the Pink Floyd door!
Roger Waters song writing is just brilliant.
I've been listening to this for 47 years and still have not figured it all out yet, but it's nice hearing it.
Don't rush yourself, but I'd love to see you react to Echoes. It's on Meddle, and I recommend it when you want to disappear for about a half hour. There's a live version from Pompeii but it's split into two halves. Also totally worth the trip.
And there is this other interpretation absolutely not to be missed:
m.th-cam.com/video/whq0NBf4bDg/w-d-xo.html
@Scott Webster
Echoes!! 🙌🏻🔥
Thanks for doing this, very enjoyable. The understanding of the lyrics will come. Good job on the analysis.
New subscriber!
this album is the GOAT
This music is so emotional for many of us. This album still holds its magic after all the years it’s been around and still brings a tear to the eye when I listen to it.
Music is great because it’s open to interpretation, you are thinking about it and finding out what it means to you. Awesome job.
You really revive the fantastic music of the 60's and the 70's. Thank you.
I like you....you are genuine which is rare for reaction videos. I’m glad you’re enjoying Pink Floyd.
DSOTM is everything between birth & death. Excellent reaction, great listener
Impeccable music taste and good looks. What's there to hate. ;)
This music came out on a vinyl disc. We had to get up, walk to stereo, and flip the disc over to hear side 2. As such, there is a natural break in this rock opera between Gig in the Sky and Money.
I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (Ummagumma) and saw them live in 1971
and 4 more times after that.
Me? I'd say listen to Pink floyd as they evolved musically, i.e. follow their releases chronologically:
1973 Dark Side of the Moon
1975 Wish You Where Here
1977 Animals
1979 The Wall
They had earlier and later albums but these four, I would argue, cover their musical best.
I definitely will check out more albums this was epic I need the whole discography now and definitely will check out shine
And you just listened to the greatest album ever.
as a child of the 70's I have listened to Floyd in many states and consciousness's and they never fail to both put me at ease and also make me think.
@@sparkyjones560 going to have to disagree slightly, I have had good speakers, but now have a 2k$ plus headphone setup and it sounds pretty amazing.
Do the audio version first so you know what to expect AND you get both parts to the song ALL IN ONE SITTING!!!!
@@gbsailing9436 that would be ideal but that's a really big ask of someone trying to make and edit a reaction video🤔
This is true, for example, there are 2 guitars in the studio version.
Dude, you smashed this reaction. Massive... Massive album and I'm glad you loved it. Best wishes from England
On “Us and Them” it’s about what separates us as people and how we still have things in common but we are split through things like war and social classes. I’m only halfway through the video so you may have found out after this point but yeah
Oh man so glad u liked it!
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
A lot of great songs in this album, my favorite is Any Colour You Like, only wish it's 3 times longer. Of course you have to go and chop it to pieces. haha
My favourite album of Pink floyds was I am 65 when the album came out I must have been 18 this changed my life. At least you're listening young man! thank you !
Brilliant reaction, so genuine. If you have a few moments try to watch, ‘ Pulse ‘, Pink Floyd live in Pompeii, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Thanks for your creative integrity, good luck.
I bought this album when I was 18 I'm now 66. And still listening to them. It's timeless. They have 15 studio albums and 3 live. X
Since you love the solo saxophone, your next song ought to be Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street."
Amazing reaction, I am glad you are going down the rabbit hole of Floyd. It’s an amazing journey and one that you will keep with you for the rest of your life!
Best album of all time. Your reaction was great.
Facts
i wish i could experience what you did
Who the Hell gave this video a thumbs down??
Good shit huh?
Saw them in 1975 on the last show of their North American tour
Was right up front, remember it well
This album really was a big part of my teenage years circa 1993 in New Mexico.
Us and Them is a song about war.
Years later you'll understand that the 60's, 7O'S, 80'S, and mid 90's this was the best music. ever.
now you have to listen to ( echoes ) & ( wish you were here _ full album )
This is a fantastic reaction. It was great joining you as you listened to what's been my favourite album by far, for almost 50 years!! It's also great to see your interest in the lyrics. The base player, Roger Waters, wrote all of the Floyd's lyrics at the time came up with fantastic, thought provoking lines. Keep enjoying .👍👍👍👍
Bless you!
Echoes...live in Pompeii....you'll love it bro
Indeed a timeless classic, which is why this album has spent a total of about 19 years on the Billboard 200 album charts since its release... far more than any other album ever recorded.
So happy I found this video... It is wonderful to watch someone discover one of the greatest bands of all time...
Welcome to the Pink Floyd universe!! pass it on...
nice reaction! do 'the wall'! best selling double album of all times. with many lyrics! greets from munich!
Dick Parry did the saxophone work for Pink Floyd.
Nice one bro, The Wall album next pls
If you like to dig into lyrics, The Wall is the album for you.
Floyd = music for old souls. Welcome
Band = perfect.
Album = perfect.
You have listened the perfection.
There are many great bands, past and present, but none will ever be like Pink Floyd. You can't even make a comparison because they don't look alike nobody.
They were just perfect and different from everyone.
live version from "pulse" is excellent!!!
The lyrics to Eclipse may be my favorite lyrics to any song ever. Simply amazing.
They were asked to comment on following 12 questions:
“What’s your favourite colour?” (to ease the interviewee in)
“Why do rock and roll bands split up?"
“When was last time you thumped someone?”
“Why did you do it?”
“Did you think you were in the right?”
“Do you still you you were in the right?”
“Are you frightened of dying?”
“Why are you frightened of dying” (the likely prompt to Puddie Watt’s )
“Do you ever think about the dark side of the moon?”
“Do you think you’re going mad?”
“If so, why?”
“What do you think of The Dark Side Of The Moon?”
Their next album is also a highly rated album from 1975. You’ll see how over their next 3 albums how their sound and style changes.
That will make me like them way more to be honest. I love artists who evolve or are able to be versatile by changing their style of music a little.
