I feel really lucky to have played the dayz mod at its height back in the day. The sense of immersion, mystery, anguish and eventually empowerment was so perfectly balanced. Going from a confused, clumsy survivor to becoming part of a highly organized group and thriving in the apocalypse...the soundtrack is just oozing memories. Also, what an amazing and unintentional social experiment it was. People had no idea how to play the game. I was more often harmlessly greeted than shot on sight in the first few months.
It really have been the days. If I could reset my memory and experience a game again, it would be the DayZ mod. This game had such a huge impact of my taste for gaming.
The mod was something else. 2000 h + game time and the encounters with other ppl. making groups and loosing lives. trying at all cost to stay alive in one way or another.. standalone is great in its own ways for sure. graphics and all the extra stuff you can do.. but honestly.. the mod had more feelings involved in some way.. ppl actually cared in a way..and some ppl didnt at all.. but the time spent in the mod, it was not to get kills as in Cs 1,5.. groups helped, talked, raided and made camps with personalities.. now adays you get shot and didnt even know where it came from.. to much hoarding and little rpg..

Solid gamer for more than 20 years, "assuming" i had seen all that there could be seen to do with game genres and than dayz came and fuck me it blew my mind. I love the universe, its a great foundation for horror stories, i try to make cinematic dayz stories using the editor myself.

Was literally what happened to me the very first time I played; I was still new to modding games in general, and it took several tries before it finally launched, but when I finally got it to work, in glorious 12-15fps, I loaded into Cherno on the docks, staring at the sun, completely captivated. Then 23:20 started and my arse hasn't unclenched since.
Just listening to this reminds me of when I first played the mod. You felt so alone and helpless and on edge, and it honestly scared the shit out of me. I couldn't play it late at night with the music.
...the only light source i had was this blue chemlight, it allowed me to see as far as 15 yards at night. more than enough as i saw them shambling past me through the high grass whilst i was prone,laying still, not 5 yards away from them...
@@borisnotrussian4461 Spawned in.. nothing on me.. didnt know what to expect.. had 3 friends watching my screen while i was playing.. noticed a zed and my heart skipped 2 times..played for 2000+ hours and did everything i could to stay alive.. a script kiddie spawned next to me one time and offered me a box with everything i could need for my journey..things where getting out of hand.. the mod had some special moments for sure! :D :P i loved the mod in a way but when it started to get popular i think we all started to count dayz for it to be and end to the greatest zombie game ever.. its a shame..

Yup, I remember all of these pretty vividly. I'm one of the lucky ones who experienced DayZ Mod on Arma 2 during the peak of it's hype and popularity. From like Spring of 2012 to 2013. Rocket(Dean Hall) was still heavily invested in the game's development. Millions of people downloaded and played it, 100,000+ active players every day... playing DayZ for the first time back then was truly a surreal experience for most of us. Some of the best gaming related memories I'll EVER fucking have. There's a lot of content creators out there who made their name and got to where they are now because of this game, the mod not the standalone version. I probably had 2000 hours in DayZ mod(and I'm only talking about vanilla, not even the other mods for it like Epoch or Breaking Point). I don't even know how many of those hours were spent looking through the scope of a sniper rifle. Whether I was in a ghillie suit on the hill to the south of the runway at NWAF, in the two-story industrial building on the run-way, peering out one of the windows looking south as people approached from Vybor, or in the woods above Stary and Novy. I wasn't the guy picking off fresh spawns on the coast. I was hunting the people with the best gear on the server, because erasing all of their progress and sending them back to square one was far more satisfying. I never KOS'd fresh spawns, never really pvp'd much in the south either unless it was Balota airfield rarely. The way I looked at it was everything from Stary and beyond to the north, it was all fair game from that point. Those were the days and I hope to god the standalone can recapture the essence of that one day. It's definitely a hell of a lot better than it was years ago, but it's still got a ways to go. Thank god they brought modders and community servers in though.

Feeling joy over most stuff that we found, especially cool looking vehicles and guns. Those were the times. I will never forget the rebellion which we proclaimed on our server against an overwhelmingly strong and well equipped clan. dozens of strangers met up at the construction site at Sabina, all added a tag to their name [Rebel] and we made our way to the northern base near Kameni. On our way we were ambushed, many who died were taken up by a rebel flying to their spawn locations with an osprey only to pick us up to get at the front again. I dont remember how it ended anymore. but just the memory of us sitting in that construction site and seeing more and more players coming in armored vehicles in order to join our cause was nothing short of epic.
hi, im from argentina and i remember in 2012 I was 12 years old, i saw a recommended video in yt, it was a dayz mod video and i really wanted to play it at that moment. i knew that my pc was shit (2gb ram, nvidia 8400gs) but i downloaded the game anyways, i figure it out how to play for free and i used tunngle to play it online. i spawned for first time near balota airfield i was running the game at 8-14 fps in very low, it was so rough and blur but that dont even care i was so inmers, just running without direction hearing the ambien music feeling nervous. After that i finnaly found a gun (revolver) it was night, my plan was going to elektro and find people, when i get into the town i started to hear shots from everywhere, my hearth started to run faster, i saw people throwing red flares to see something, meeting ramdom and friendly guys hiding with you from the shooters and creating plans to escape or kill the shooters. The only game that gave me that emotions i really miss it, few months after that i bought the game and better graphic card to play it atleast at 18-25 in medium I meet many people from all around the world, learned english,etc. now i have a 2000 dollars pc but i dont have time to play almost nothing.

The DayZ Mod was ahead of its time. This is the game that moved millions over to PC. Standalone ruined the experience and soul of the game. One of these days there will be a game based on the DayZ Mod that will change the scope of gaming. This was the game that spawned the battleroyale genre. It is now but a relic in the gaming world, but its existence has resonated throughout the gaming industry. I've played some really good games in my life, but this one was truly a masterpiece for its time. No game has managed to capture its core essence despite spawning up numerous copy cats. As you can tell in my post, I really miss the golden days of this game. Nothing scared you more than pulling up into Stary Sober on a 50 man server only to hope that a ghillied out thermal L85 and AS50 didn't have you in their sights. Vehicles worked amazingly and the high powered extremely rare weapons balanced the use of helicopters and other transportation. It was a hard game and it made you believe you were in a zombie apocalypse.
Yep, original dayz mod kept me up until i had just a few hours for sleep when working next day. I always played it with my brother. No other game kept is that hooked, There were no mods or stuff back then, just random encounters, the rain, sickness and despair. I hope onedays some game like this emerges from the shadows.

The only game which can give you heart attack when you're alone during the night in a forest, hiding in a bush after you heard weirds noise, and you killed by a DMR right in the head, best game ever
OMFG THIS BRINGS BACK THE GOOD TIMES. I miss dayz so much it was my first game i ever played on the pc. I remember the first time i got to play. It was on my uncles pc and i spawned in kemenka. I didnt know what to do and i was crawing next to zombies. This music made my skin crawl. I was so scared when a zombie got agroed on me i just jumped in my chair and started crawling away. Its sad that dayz wont ever be like this again, and i wish there was a way to make it like this again but i know nothing will ever compare to the old dayz and the stuff you experienced. #MAKE DAYZ GREAT AGAIN
There is no way to get that feeling again. Once experienced and processed, it wont ever come back. Same for me with standalone (never played the mod, just saw videos). I simply cannot express and recreate what I felt in the first 50 or what hours...
The jank was always the scariest part; lightning-fast zombies, long, awkward animations, forgetting to reload your hatchet before you use it, and just the general jank of an ARMA game. So damn good.
I'm currently playing the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Chernobyl Mod, and I'm listening to this. Super fitting besides the OST. Simply running through the forrest and listening to this gave me the creeps back in the mod days. Not even mentioning the NWAF during nighttime...
I'm really sad that i couldnt play mod when it was really popular because my pc couldnt run it. I remember watching it on TH-cam and then imagine being in the world of DayZ in my dreams :D Then i got a new computer And i started playing DayZ by myself And then with my two best friends and the hours spent playing DayZ SA were one of the best ever in my life.
I consider myself to be lucky to have played it when it was in the midst of the insane popularity, it was an experience I've never ever had in a game before, it was just the fact that you were helpless to your surroundings and when you saw another player cross your path in close proximity you'd just freeze if you had nothing to defend yourself with and just pray they wouldn't see you and god forbid cause zombies to agro in on your position, coupled with the fact that you're trying to be as quiet as possible while trying to scavenge necessary supplies, and if it was late at night and you've got headphones on and all of a sudden the audio from 12:29 or 30:48 just kicks in out of the dead silence your blood froze it was fucking brutal on the senses and I absolutely loved the living shit out of it, just a shame its legacy was left to rot.
I remember logging in for the first time during night time, completely pitch black with 36:50 playing in the backround without knowing none of the controls or what do, so i had to loggout cause i thought something was about to murder me... oooh good times...
This way of using music in a game such as this is actually really smart. This game is very much about creating uniqe experiences and using "randomized" tracks playing in the backgroud will very much add to the encounters you do in the game, each and everytime with a different track. Or as our other fellows in this comment section @danzo shirmura says: This moment when you play in Night and this Track coming 8:30 or as @Dao da Spetsnaz says: 12:30 When you spawn near Chernogorsk port with the sun at the morning. Sadly many players turns the music off for a tactical advantage.
NightBot no its not. dayz standalone is dead. Originaly they said the beta is gonna come out Q4 2015 and after that didnt come out they said its gonna be dec 2017 and its still not out. Its june 2018 and there is a stresstest for 0.63 where half of the features like sickness dont work anymore. Also a dayz mod vet.

No game since has been able to recapture the magic and wonderment of Dayz mod from 2012-2013. A hardcore MMO survival game was something never really tried before on the scale that DayZ did, and it really created the genre. It laid the foundation for games like Rust, ARK, 7 days to die, Tarkov, and many, many other failed attempts at making another Zombie MMO. After the success of DayZ, "Open world zombie survival MMO with crafting" was just a collection of buzzwords for aspiring developers to attract investment. Much how like "battle royale" was for games after the success of Fortnite.
this game leaves a different kind of impression on you than others, I can only come 2nd to maybe Zelda Ocarina of time / Majoras Mask, But damn did my Life revolve around playing this game a Total immersion into a world, Kept me sane through some dark times and I still return to listen to the games music almost an artificial anxiety to take you away from maybe some real anxiety
It would be cool to have a like Option to turn On or Off Music in DayZ nowadays. Some people like it, some people dont. Cause Imo I would ever have it on, cause it gives such a Myterious Vibe to the Game. I love those Ambient Sounds so hard.
Most of my time playing was on Taviana and the Origins mod. Man, one of the best memories i've ever had! I really hope the developer of the map can drop his ego and give the people what they want and put it on Standalone.

I miss the good old dayz too, especially running around the maps of Chernarus, Namalsk, and Taviana for hours to be then Sniped or eventually killed by a bunch of agro Zombies or a glitch would kill you, but these sounds really made the game too.
This music was why Dayz was so scary and distressing experience for me. Very creepy music. Is anyone playing mod anymore? I dont like the standaloen and feels like they never get it finished.
When I get my Astro A40 with mixamp pro, I'm gonna plug my phone into the mixamp and play DayZ while this ambience music is playing. It will be amazing.
I always just turned the music off so I wasn't quite on edge for no good reason, and so I could hear actual treats. I love listening to it when I'm not playing though.
12:59 This was my most scary sound when I was playing dayz, especially at the night in game and through my window. Sometimes i was imaging, they put this sound from UFO signals.

OMFG THIS BRINGS BACK THE GOOD TIMES. I miss dayz so much it was my first game i ever played on the pc. I remember the first time i got to play. It was on my uncles pc and i spawned in kemenka. I didnt know what to do and i was crawing next to zombies. This music made my skin crawl. I was so scared when a zombie got agroed on me i just jumped in my chair and started crawling away. Its sad that dayz wont ever be like this again, and i wish there was a way to make it like this again but i know nothing will ever compare to the old dayz and the stuff you experienced. #MAKE DAYZ GREAT AGAIN
There is no way to get that feeling again. Once experienced and processed, it wont ever come back. Same for me with standalone (never played the mod, just saw videos). I simply cannot express and recreate what I felt in the first 50 or what hours...

The jank was always the scariest part; lightning-fast zombies, long, awkward animations, forgetting to reload your hatchet before you use it, and just the general jank of an ARMA game.

Simply running through the forrest and listening to this gave me the creeps back in the mod days. Not even mentioning the NWAF during nighttime...

I'm really sad that i couldnt play mod when it was really popular because my pc couldnt run it. I remember watching it on TH-cam and then imagine being in the world of DayZ in my dreams :D Then i got a new computer And i started playing DayZ by myself And then with my two best friends and the hours spent playing DayZ SA were one of the best ever in my life.
I consider myself to be lucky to have played it when it was in the midst of the insane popularity, it was an experience I've never ever had in a game before, it was just the fact that you were helpless to your surroundings and when you saw another player cross your path in close proximity you'd just freeze if you had nothing to defend yourself with and just pray they wouldn't see you and god forbid cause zombies to agro in on your position, coupled with the fact that you're trying to be as quiet as possible while trying to scavenge necessary supplies, and if it was late at night and you've got headphones on and all of a sudden the audio from 12:29 or 30:48 just kicks in out of the dead silence your blood froze it was fucking brutal on the senses and I absolutely loved the living shit out of it, just a shame its legacy was left to rot.

This way of using music in a game such as this is actually really smart. This game is very much about creating uniqe experiences and using "randomized" tracks playing in the backgroud will very much add to the encounters you do in the game, each and everytime with a different track.

NightBot no its not. dayz standalone is dead. Originaly they said the beta is gonna come out Q4 2015 and after that didnt come out they said its gonna be dec 2017 and its still not out. Its june 2018 and there is a stresstest for 0.63 where half of the features like sickness dont work anymore. Also a dayz mod vet.
The game is starting to look promising again. Only thing I'm waiting for is for gear protection et cetera to be implemented in 0.63.
Just play on DayZ EUROPA, vanilla mod server.

I miss the good old dayz too, especially running around the maps of Chernarus, Namalsk, and Taviana for hours to be then Sniped or eventually killed by a bunch of agro Zombies or a glitch would kill you, but these sounds really made the game too.
This music was why Dayz was so scary and distressing experience for me. Very creepy music. Is anyone playing mod anymore? I dont like the standaloen and feels like they never get it finished.
