Love the Chiefs content. We may be watching one of the greatest QBs and TEs ever in their prime. The thing I love about your breakdowns is you help us to step inside the mind of these guys. Mahomes gets a ton of credit for being athletic and having a strong arm and because of that people forget how elite he is at processing pre and post snap, and how he's able to tie that processing in with unique movement skills. I think it's a special trait that separates him from some of the other good young QBs in the league i.e. Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, etc. Good work JT!

One of the sickest in-structure throws I've ever seen from Mahomes. FWIW I don't think Mahomes sails one so high that Kelce doesn't at least go for it.

    • @rjs617
      @rjs617 ปีที่แล้ว +4

There’s no way that was a miss. It didn’t sail high. It was driven downfield right into the receiver’s arms. It didn’t look to me like Kelce was looking for the ball either.

Yeah, I don't think Mahomes has ever overthrown Kelce by seven yards. Another thing, on that 3rd and 7 where he completed that out to Skyy Moore if he would have thrown the underneath to Kelce cutting back against the grain Kelce would have had at least a twenty yard gain.

@The QB School I read on a tweet I think from Damien Williams, that when he was on the team Patrick Mahomes would have them practice catching the balls with their eyes closed and arms outstretched. The accuracy of that throw there is no way he accidentally overthrew Kelce by that much, this is something they practice!

Let's not forget kelce is 33 years old and there was talk among chiefs fans about how kelce needs to get less touches to save him for the playoffs, dude ain't slowing down lol he's still that guy at 33. He's playing like he's 26 again being a number one option. Insane. And he already has 11 TDs which ties his single season career high, he might break gronks record of 17 when it's all said and done.

about the "LoL dime" to J, Fortson: If you take the throws to him from last season into count, before he tore his Achilles, you probably would be less convinced that Kelce might have been the target. 88 was definitely his target on the deep ball. If you watch Mahomes post-snap, he's locked in on him as soon as the defender gets bumped off. It's also a drive shot. With the defender underneath Kelce, he would have layered the hole shot.

His ability to extend the play is ridiculous but the plays he makes after extending that play is what separates him from the other GREATS…He is coachable and he seems to be doing the right things off the field…makes everyone around him better and instills confidence in everyone including the coaches…Wasp in SB54 proved everything I said…coaches trusted his suggestion on a 3rd and long on the biggest stage…he pulled Hill’s head out of his ass when trailing late and fed it to him on the play that turned the SB around! He is incredibly mentally talented as much as his physical tools. I wonder how he’s able to control the velocity of the ball 🏈 so that it travels the correct distance at the appropriate speed.

It looks to me like the Chargers were leaving too much empty space in the middle of the field just past the line of scrimmage for Kelce and others to run crossing patterns. I would think a DC would try using a fast LB or safety as a spy in the middle of the field 5 yards ore so off the line of scrimmage who could go after Mahomes on a delayed blitz when he started moving around and/or the receivers running crossing routes had cleared behind him. On the scramble plays, Mahomes just had too much time and space to move around and scan the field. If you let him pump fake and go through 2 or 3 options after he's out of the pocket you have no chance. Staley is a defensive coach but Kelce beat the Chargers on the game winner with the same route he beat them with in a game last season.

He 100% was throwing to Fortson. It was on a rope and he realized he had his jump ball playmaker on a defender with his back to the ball.

Fortson was running vertically Kelce was running horizontally. Usually when a quarterback overthrows the receiver it's either because the quarterback was under pressure which he wasn't or the receiver is running vertically at least partially vertically. I do not think he was throwing to Kelce because he would have overshot him by 8 yards and I don't think he does that when he knows on the vertical axis where Kelce is going to be because he's only really moving horizontally.

don't get me wrong, i love the video... but you've absolutely lost your mind if you think that throw might have been going to Kelce. 1000:1 I don't see what you're seeing. Kelce wasn't that open. And Patrick wasn't missing anyone by 5-10 yards w his feet planted and absolutely NO pressure on the play.

1:46 on the clock, two time outs and everyone was saying "you left Mahomes too much time." Yes, yes they did. Mahomes the ultimate triggerman and Reid the ultimate play designer. That last TD was the same play/concept they used in OT last year. You'd think the defense would learn.

I was enjoying this until he said the fortson wheel route was a lucky overthrow... Lol. No chance mahommes missed kelce by that much... This was clearly a dialed up play for fortson because you never see the backup TE go in motion into a deep wheel route.... It was one on one, fortson is huge so mahommes was throwing that ball no matter who else was open....

  • @JohnnyZeroBoo

9:30 Fortson was more open. That your eyes are telling you Kelce is more open goes a long way in explaining your career TD/INT ratio. Suggesting he meant to throw it to Kelce and accidentally dropped a perfect dime to Fortson is quite possibly the silliest thing I've ever heard you say on this channel.

  • @greyklopstock7155

Patrick Mahomes singlehandedly makes defenses halfway irrelevant. It's impossible to play good defense for more than maybe 15 seconds before things break down. And that's being extremely generous. And even if you do play good defense, he completes passes anyway. You cannot beat him. You cannot outsmart him. If he has even a remotely decent offensive line, you just have to hope he gets greedy. He wins over twice the amount of games he loses. The best you can hope for playing against the chiefs is that you survive.
As a niners fan, I know that too well. You cannot rely on officiating to pick up on things when you need it to, and you cannot make any mistakes or miss any opportunities on offense against them. By the time your pass rushers get to Mahomes, the ball is already out of he's secured the first down.
