      Bro...We've had to endure some real garbage. Steve Bono. Elvis Grbac. Brodie Croyle. Damon Huard. Tyler Thigpen. I mean it's a real dumpster fire list. I'm 40 and lived in KC all my life and been a Chiefs fan since I was just a kid. Having a real team is just awesome. Too bad my dad passed away months before we won the Super Bowl. He would have LOVED to watch this team play as a lifelong Chiefs fan himself. But hey, at least he got to watch Lenny win one.

    That anticipation throw to Kelce is a great job of reading the linebackers actions. He sees the shoulders turn toward the clear receiver, Mahomes immediately knows he’s lost sight of Kelce and goes to him.

    11:59 Well, this is the essence of what Bill Walsh designed with his "West Coast" offense, which was perfect timing with receivers being where they were supposed to be and the QB delivering the ball exactly when it needed to be thrown. If done correctly, you can't possibly defend that. Take it a few steps forward with more arm talent than Montana and using shotgun timing instead of straight drop timing and you have this. I'm sure Bill Walsh would love to see this team!

      i have to agree, he has the cool of Staubach, the arm of who knows who, maybe Rodgers? He routinely avoids pressure like Elway, and is dead accurate, like Doug Williams- for those who remember him. he is well more than we could have hoped. he is now the gold standard for high level qb play ImHO.

      @Terry McBride The other thing i noticed, watching the draft... All mid-level and higher teams were all trying to draft players to build a team that can beat the Chiefs.
      That was almost as amazing as the SB. It is a position we haven't been in for far too long. We have freakish talent in a lot of positions. Full disclosure; i wasn't thrilled when we brought in Spags, but i must admit i underestimated him. i love his full attack D. Being in the top 10 on both sides of the ball is very hard to accomplish in today's NFL.

      this is where i see Lamar possibly going the way of most running qbs. more short careers doing that. he needs to learn pocket passing, and running as the last option.
      i've seen too many running qbs out of the league early. all this from a Chiefs fan since 1969...i just hate to see brilliance disappear due to playing risk heavy ball.

    • @kilgoretrout3966
      @kilgoretrout3966 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scottyhaines4226 i really do hope they stay with that program. He has talent to burn! Even a Chiefs fan like me doesn't want to see any more blue chip qbs cut short. Prior to now, the only one i can think of that got away with it was Randall Cunningham, but he moved more to the pass first mentality, and it was like a whole new career for him...Then you have RGIII and, as you mentioned, Vick. Its exciting ball, but yeah i too think he will be fine if they keep him in the pocket, with some boots and RPO.
      He sure looked good passing yesterday, but sheesh, the one wildcard hanging over the whole season will be Covid. i know you can heal in 2 weeks, but i don't know how quick anyone would be game ready after a bout of it. i just hope they all keep eyes on the prize, and this year, exercise great caution. Perhaps the toughest season to try to predict.

  • @12jswilson
    @12jswilson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    JT, often times when Mahomes has "happy feet", he's doing it to either create a passing lane not currently available, or sometimes to manipulate underneath defenders. That's not always the case of course, but there is a method to the madness.

    • @jaredwright7710
      @jaredwright7710 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mahomes' ability to choose and manipulate any player on the defensive side is ridiculous and an underrated part of his game. I think it was most obvious on his TD run against Tennessee in the playoffs when he made his own running lane with a very slight stutter in his running motion. Ridiculous body control all around.

    At halftime it felt like the game was just about over.
    In half #1 it felt like Houston tells them we're going to take away everything deep and force you to play underneath and with patience
    KC says no problem, we can be methodical and patient, still having success running long drives with many plays
    It felt like Houston was going to be forced to start defending underneath, now they have to open the deep portion of the field(Where KC excels).
    And sure enough Reid and Bieniemy come out of halftime, spreading the field out a little more, showing new looks with running those WR screens to the trips side in the 3x1 formations.
    Houston has no answer, they're forced to play underneath and spread their forces out thin, CEH long TD run.
    Game Over.
    Going to be tough to beat KC when they get into the half with a 2 score lead.

      @@LimpyLegolas Add in the new star, Eduard-Heilaire, and it really doesn't matter if they're forced to grind out a running game.
      Signing Eduard-Helaire may just prove to be as brilliant a move as the Cheetah or even Mahomes himself. Under almost any situation, this team is going to be about as difficult a team for any defence in the history of the game.
      What can stop them? Injury? I can't see anything else much right now. The Texans were GOOD, I mean, their defence was as solid as you could expect any team to be, but they really were blown away by one of the highest functioning TEAMS I've ever seen. There have been excellent pairings, but I can't think of any entire team that I have watched in over 40 years that had the sort of potential that this team has.

      Favre and Elway did a lot of similar stuff in regard to scrambling around and then delivering a seemingly awkward pass that was right in the window. It takes some serious arm strength to get away with that kind of stuff. Mahomes even throws across the coverage from the other side of the field like Favre and Elway did. It's that fearless gunslinger mentality, always wanting to take the shot if it's there to be taken. Mahomes seems to be a bit more charmed though since he just doesn't seem to turn the ball over very often.

    I'd agree with the TD pass to Kelce and it was definitely spectacular, but there was real zip on that ball, you could hear the sound of it when it hit kelce's chest body armour.
    He really is a joy to watch isn't he?
    One of the things about moving out of the pocket is that, in one sense it makes it easier for the defence to get at him, but it also makes it more difficult to predict where he's going to be, so more difficult to sack him. But he is so athletic and mobile, and his arm is good at so many angles that he can get away with it all.
    It'll be interesting to see how the use of that arm will develop over time. Being an oldie, you realise that you compensate for your body not being able to do things. It happens to us all. And it'll be interesting to watch, assuming he can play out his career.

We went through many years of disappointment ( too many years of almost making it and being let down was heartbreaking!) and watching as the great ones ( Manning , elway, Brady ) Take their teams to superbowls , and we assumed we’d never get that amazing QB ourselves ( let alone a franchise one ). We don’t take it for granted and still can’t believe he ended up in KC.

    Love it! Mahomes is special. Not taking anything away from his abilities but he tends to get away with staring receivers down just like the 1st clip you reviewed. He can get away with this due to the talent surrounding him. The safety respects the Cheetah and jumped on him therefore Mahomes never even attempted to look him off. Alot of that has to do with scheme and the fact that Hill is a burner. Many qbs in the league cant get away with starting a reciever down. Mahomes is still a rare talent and he is very accurate. Just wanted to know your thoughts on this.

      Just being able to find the open guys requires talent. He is finding them faster now. His ball placement seems to be better as well.
      Watson is great. Mahomes is literally once in a lifetime. We know this because no one has seen a player like him in 100 years of the NFL.
      He is playing the position in a way that is just better than everyone else.
      Yes. He has a HOF coach.
      Yes. He has a huge collection of talent around him.
      And he makes them better. His skillset and his leadership, but most of all his mind and work ethic is why he is so good. The kid is just special.
      How do we know? Because the only people we can compare him to is All Time Great QBs. Because that is really all you can compare him to. No one else comes close.

It’s unacceptable to run your first round draft pick who had a great game and is 5ft 6in into 11 defenders, it’s unacceptable to have a full back blocking JJ Watt on the LoS. It’s unacceptable to have your impact WRs blocking line backers on the LoS at the end of the game when the game is already over. Not to mention the run scheme choice was garbage. Texans were in man the whole time down there. Get your fastest player in space and throw it to him.
