Every space on a ship requires ventilation. For this ventilation their are ducts. This ducts(small passage) basically have a fan at one end and other end goes to the space which is to be ventilated. Now if their is a fire in that space, so we have to cutoff ventilation to cutoff oxygen. So we press ES"B" ( emergency stop for accommodation) which stops the fan and after than we can close the flap of the duct to avoid fire and smoke to pass to other area. The closing of the duct can also be done by pulling the wire handle which isolates the space to avoid fire from spreading due to oxygen supply. This flaps which prevent air passing into the spaces to avoid fire is called as fire dampers. 🎯
