I'm just getting back into cycling, I was doing really well until my best friend of 18 years got seriously ill with her mental health. I soon realised she needed me so I looked after her for 2 years, unfortunately I lost her to suicide last March. I'm building up to do a memorial ride with my husband in a couple of weeks. I joined a cycling club, but didn't enjoy cycling side by side tbh, I'd like to live out Derby way then I could cycle with you guys. Keep up the good work Amy ❤

Riding in clubs is not for everyone, but with the right group of people it can be really supportive and liberating!

I swear I was never a faffer… then I started cycling…even if I’m just popping on my bike to do errands it’s faffington central
Its very interesting hearing this and a lot kf the points liek the traffic i resonated with.

Forgive me for not checking, is there "hill dance" merch ? There should be! I fancy a freeze frame graphic, some sort of illustration that captures a line of ladies jumping at the same time and freezing them in midair. That sounds fun.

I’m interested in your discussion on the barriers. I have cycled for years but 3 years ago I suffered a stroke and I had a knee replacement last year and my second knee replacement 2 weeks ago. I am now super slow but still highly motivated. Obviously I’m not fit enough to cycle outside till I recover from my second knee operation but I have found that since my stroke my confidence as well as my speed has been so low that I cycle solo always. I would love to cycle in a group but don’t know how this would be possible as I feel I would just be holding others up.
It’s hard when your health becomes a barrier like this.

Just curious what is your average speed and roughly how many miles do you ride
Hiya! Best place to look is my strava - link in my profile, it all depends on the amount of hills, whether it's social or not, wind direction ☺️ I think on this ride we did around 38 miles and averaged 16-17mph

Cycling has gotten ridiculous expensive. In 2011 I bought 6 months old Cervelo S1 which had been ridden only few times (triathlon training bike) with Ultergra and good wheels for 1500 Euro. Now you don't even get the groupset with that...
