    Never played it, never heard of it, but fell in love with it the day I saw one of the people I'm subscribed to trying to play it.
    They didn't get far, but what I saw was awesome for such an old game)

      +StarlightFromAbyss I didn't really like it my first time playing it, but got super into it on my second try. (Around when it first came out).
      It has a weird way of sucking you in, even though it's not the most happening game.

    Loved this video. I remember as a kid thinking those QTEs were the coolest thing I'd ever seen. And that voice acting.. oh man. Playing Shenmue 2 in Japanese w/ English subtitles was a very good decision. MUCH less distracting. I tried the Xbox version a couple of years later and didn't enjoy it quite as much with the English voice acting.
    Speaking of Shenmue 2.... Maybe that'd be fun to do for a Super Show episode? I'm sure you'll have your hands full with Dark Souls soon though.

  • @SuperFriendBFG
    @SuperFriendBFG 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think one thing you did miss about Shenmue's QTE implementation is how missing one, or even sometimes two of the prompts wouldn't necessarily make you fail. A lot of other game's QTE sequences will break as soon as you fail at least one, whereas in Shenmue, the cinematic changes showing your player character stumble to dodge an oncoming car or something.

The main parts are the root (radix); the body (corpus); and the epithelium of the penis including the shaft skin and the foreskin covering the glans penis. The body of the penis is made up of three columns of tissue: two corpora cavernosa on the dorsal side and corpus spongiosum between them on the ventral side. - Thats you,I put your name into Wikipedia and that is the first thing that came up.

      Well the QTE at the time were something new, also the open world of Shenmue feels more like a real place with real people who you can talk to, it's NOT like the modern open world games where everything feels more like a giant playground with no small deatils that can improve the gameplay experience.

    Great video as always! Also, quick question, do you get some of these video(as in shows like the Super Show and You need to know) ideas from viewer requests or do you have pre-planned topics for future videos? Thanks!

    • @DaveControlLive
      @DaveControlLive  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +OddJars I do a mix of both. I have a list of shows I want to do and viewer requests. I don't really have a system of how I choose which one to do next, though, haha. But I do keep track of them. (The Castlevania Super Show, for example, was a viewer request - The Immortal Super Show was based on a viewer asking me to do a more obscure game, and there's been more).

    • @oddjars
      @oddjars 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DaveControl That's good to know! Love your channel btw, I'm guessing we won't be seeing that many Super Shows and anything similar for a while once Dark Souls 3 releases. Also, do you have any plans on covering any classic CRPG games like Planescape:Torment, the Baldur's Gate Series, and Icewind Dale? I absolutely love those games and it would be pretty cool to see a Super Show or a You Need to Know about any of those old infinity engine games.

    • @DaveControlLive
      @DaveControlLive  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +OddJars You would guess right, haha.
      Weirdly, I haven't played them. (And that's not to say I didn't play PC games, I just never ended up picking them up). But I'll throw them on my list - I do like covering different genres, so it's always nice to have something different to do.

    • @oddjars
      @oddjars 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +DaveControl If you haven't played any Infinity Engine title before, I highly recommend Planescape: Torment because it is a shining example of what the Infinity Engine has to offer. It may be the easiest infinity engine game I've played, in my opinion, but it has fantastic writing and story. The choices in that game really matter a lot and can have major and minor outcomes, the characters are nice and lovable, and the game can make you think very deep thoughts at times. Love that game and would recommend it to anyone, even if they dislike rpg. Also a spiritual successor to that game, Torment: Tides of Numenera, is in Early Access on steam right now, and I can't wait to see the full game when it releases.

    This Game was a technical Shock..! It was the most beautifull game and the most expensive. At the same Time wwe had GTA 2 for instance. Too bad the video make fun of bad aspect on a Game of 1999. But don't forget 8/9 years we were still playing Nes And Master systme games.
    We 've never felt the same technical during PS3/PS4 or even 128 bit to nowadays games. no more technical showcase in arcade either. The technological progress slowed down hardely and Nintendo (who always did brand nex next gen consoles) now sells outdated hardware and everybody is happy .. :( (sorry for my english)

    great vid. that 47m figure was the total for dev of all the games- saturn version, and both dreamcast games, and it also includes the marketing, which was a huge chunk. it also includes the cost of developing the engine for the game, which was built from the ground up.
    also, fuck Peter Moore. fuck him in his evil stupid ass.
    Sega nailed their own coffin by not even releasing the sequel in their biggest market; America.. crazy.. and by selling the exclusive rights after the DC died to the xbox, which also had a small user installed base.. imagine if Shenmues 1&2 had been ported to the PS2 (albeit a pared down version).. that could have saved the franchise and sega's fortunes.

    @quetch2 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're giving shenmue a little too much credit for inventing stuff. Ocarina of time came out before shenmue and already had most of these revolutionary new gameplay elements (fully open world, day/night cycle, etc).
    Shenmue was early to the party, but was not the first

    • @DaveControlLive
      @DaveControlLive  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +quetch2 You're confusing the terminology - I'm likening the term "Open City" to Shenmue which it is considered the first of its kind. Elder Scrolls & Ocarina were first, but Ocarina isn't what's typically classified an open-world game. While the areas connect to one-another, It's a completely different genre and style of game than what's classified as "Open World". Shenmue was the first to do something in the vain of open-city games such as GTA3, Watch Dogs, and the like.
      As far as the day/night/weather - yes, Ocarina of Time beat it to the punch, and I made a mistake in my wording. I meant that the drastic importance of how it affected everything (and how it was procedurally generated), was new. As an example - when it rains (randomly), characters all don umbrellas to adjust for the weather. But, you are correct, I was over-zealous in my wording.

    Not a big fan of big name companies using Kickstarter and the like. Mostly due to a "Not for you" kind of feeling. I dunno, it just feels like bigger companies wouldn't need crowd-funding, as they have more access to traditional methods.
    OTOH, Shenmue 3 is exactly the kind of project Kickstarer is for, a fan-favorite but unprofitable series getting a shot in the arm so... eh?

    • @DaveControlLive
      @DaveControlLive  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Brandon Brown I'm mixed on it as well. I don't like, as a general rule of thumb, larger big-name companies doing kickstarted. But, with Shenmue I was pretty torn for the exact reason you mentioned.
      I've only ever kick-started 3 projects (all games), so I guess that shows my general enthusiasm for kickstarter, haha.
