It is an absolute tragedy that The Isla Project doesn’t get more attention. The art, species diversity, and biosphere development outclass nearly every other spec evo/biology project on TH-cam
Exactly! Most of the others I’ve seen have just been “this is basically a thing we have on earth but I added a few extra legs lol” whereas this actually has very unique biology as a result of the planet being tidally locked.
It's not a tragedy, people like different things for different reasons. Not everyone wants to sit in on a fictional biology class lecture. I mean I do, but if others don't, who cares. If The Isla Project had a strong narrative, I guarantee you it'd be more popular, but that isn't what the creator wanted to do, and that's okay. It is what it is, and it is okay to love it as much as it is okay to hate it.
Thank God (I mean science). I’ve been stuck in the hospital and re-watching several great science videos, and I was just getting to this channel and I saw that the last video hadn’t been up for a long time and I couldn’t find any updates anywhere. I thought the creator might’ve moved on to other things, and then just today this video releases and that’s fantastic timing!
I love these videos so much. The can combine a sense of order with crazy forms and as a result is one of the few alien biosphere projects that truly feel alien
This is very high quality! The paintings are so detailed and fantasy-like yet almost photorealistic! How long does it take to make paintings like these?
This is incredible! It's clear how much time and effort went into making this; one of the best spec evo projects I've seen in a while. Can't wait for the next episode!
Oh nice, cool to see a whole ecosystem explored. Really gives a feel of what it would be like to visit this biome. Interesting to see a species with group hunting and play, I find myself make comparisons to cetaceans, though I suspect that is simplifying things too much. Also, the eel worms have grown on me since last time. I think I like their clade now.
Question here on Isla. Given how Project Rose and a Worldbuilding Pie have worlds that generally have the dayside be very much habitable and wet, with vast oceans on the dayside and and the tropical-wet subsolar point, why didn’t you follow with this for Isla?
Great question! The simplest answer is that I initially wanted it this way because it makes for a more interesting and dynamic model system - one which operates under rules very different from those here on earth. A more complex answer is that in my understanding, a planet like Isla is closer to the current speculation within the astrophysics community. I'm not very familiar the other projects you mentioned, but I'd guess the main reasons their model climates are so different from mine are that their planets have a) unique atmospheric compositions allowing for more of an insulative effect, and b) their planets have substantial obliquities (approx. 50 degrees) which would lead to more exaggerated swings in climate conditions. Isla has very little obliquity, and an accommodating atmosphere which both lead to the more extreme (albeit simpler, and more predictable) global weather patterns.
@@Oliver_but_digital Basically for their world, Thick and Sufficient Atmosphere equals Great distribution of Heat and Water, hence their daysides having oceans and the Subsolar point in those projects being wet and hot as hell
Love your project, it is without a doubt the most technically masterful and highest production value speculative biology project ever created. When The Isla Project concludes (and I do think it deserves a fitting conclusion at some point) you should tackle a more ambitious endeavor. I believe you have the capability to create something truly life changing for you, if you consider the potential of what I am about to tell you (pardon my coming on strong here, I'm just trying to bless you, if possible). The Isla Project, in all its beauty and wonder, and mastery, admittedly lacks mass appeal at this time. However, if you were to begin a subsequent spec bio project, with a greater emphasis on narrative, you could easily preserve what makes The Isla Project so incredible, while garnering mass appeal, and perhaps change your life forever by drawing in a sufficient audience so as to provide the funding you'd need to either improve your quality of life substantially, give you the opportunity to bless others substantially, or to create more speculative biology content on a larger scale. Consider what I have said, as you have the know how to take this work of yours and make it into something that doesn't just stand out as a big fish in a small pond for all its popularity, but that actually pushes the envelope of the genre and drives it into more mainstream audiences. You could transform the spec bio genre forever, pioneering the medium into the hearts and minds of the greater public and opening the door not just for yourself, but all of the other wonderful creators in the spec bio space. With much love and appreciation
Thank you for your comment! There’s still a lot I want to do with the project, but agree in the sense that I think this is a way for me to prove myself as an artist and creative, and that it will move me on to bigger things. I appreciate the support, and I hope to only prove myself more from here. At some point the Isla Project will end and then who knows what will happen from there.
Fantastic work, very inspiring. I was wondering whta software do you use to draw and how did you learn this style ? I bet you made the planet locked like this just to draw beautiful skies lol
Could we have some details about the Isla planet and system? Like the stellar class of the parent star, the distance from the planet to the star, the mass of the planet the duration of his orbit, are they other planet in the system?
Im building a world with an atmosphere so dense most life has to live in the sky as to not be crushed beneath the weight of the air. Cant wait to get it off the ground!
These creatures are beautiful, but what about adding more different colors to them? %) Also there could be something with wide bristly appendages to filter plankton.
probably just some base creatures to explain the different niches, some of them might have more diverse colorations or bioluminesce later as part of reproduction or communication, but that would be too much to explain as part of other videos.
My dumb brain... I kept initially being confused why the tidally locked sides are specified as north for hot and south for cold, when of course magnetic poles on a planet that's tidally locked are a bit silly. Not only that, but planets can be on their sides anyways, I always forget about uranus as an example. My head just thinks of north and south as not only magnetic, but rotationally aligned as well.
I haven’t done the best job of explaining it in the past so I totally get that it’s confusing. I’m going to make an episode clarifying all that at some point soon
Makes me so frustrated every time I see something like this because I know it’s highly unlikely to ever be compiled in a physical book. Which is one of the reasons these things never get enough traction or interest. People want to admire art like this on paper at their leisure in their hands not online in a pdf or video slideshow. And spec evo artists almost always go the online only route because it’s easier to push out quickly.
Just very expensive to do, unfortunately... I’m also a fellow physical media enjoyer & I’d absolutely love to see this as a book. Wish I had some friends in the publishing industry that I could point towards this.
It could be done very easily in today's day and age of on demand production. He has all the images, and transcripts of all the speaking. However he'd lose the animations that are present in some episodes, which is a bummer, subtle though they are.

these are some of the most creative oceans I've seen, I will probably get a lot of inspiration for my own water areas in planets, excited for more!
Spec evo/ bio is such an amazing genre made even better by people like The Isla Project. Cant wait to see more
When I saw that fish in the last episode, I would have never expected it to have a cousin that hops like a kangaroo.
I'd forgotten how much I love this type of speculative evolution shit
It's nice to have another high quality spec evo project in the world, it feels like there are so few some times.
YESSS!!! I'm hyped for more Isla

It depends on the painting, and on how busy I am - typically anywhere from a few days to a week or two

I absolutely love this project, it has a similar vibe to Subnautica due to its very alien, but somehow calming look
Just discovered this channel and it instantly became one of my favourites.
