Nicko's Kitchen Hello Nicko, thanks for this wonderful recipe but I need a little advice from you. I am trying to make this for tomorrow can you please tell me if it can be stored? Greetings from Mauritius.
***** Thank you so much, I prepared these the same day my family ate them all. Next time I will store the non-fried crumb covered ice cream in the freezer.
You can prepare and freeze them day or two before. He didn't put cinnamon on the ice cream balls with the cornflakes. I would. Soooo good! They will taste great. Just don't forget a drizzle of honey and or chocolate sauce and a bit of whipped cream . It really tops it off nicely! :)
wow too many police here.. Hey thanks for the vid and who doesn't love deep fried ice cream?? I think i'll try using frosted flakes or some kind of crushed cinnamon candy mixed with corn flakes. oh and btw those who are using words like "gross", "hazards", "health" or "animals" dont knock it till you try it. Also.. it's all about moderation.. shessh.
I love Nicko's kitchen, the food he makes are easy and end up tasting delicious. Fried ice cream is actually really good, i tried it at a restaurant and wanted to learn how to make it myself. This recipe is easy and the results are fantastic, some of you lot need to lay off and keep your negative opinions to yourself.
YUM....don't forget the cinnamon chips, hot (drizzled) vanilla honey & cool whip! :-D Thank you for taking time to share how to make FRIED ICE CREAM... You super rock! :-)
I'm so trying this! I've always wondered how they did this;I'd always assumed the ice cream would melt to the core straight away. that makes sense freezing the scoops like that though-I used to work at an ice cream place, & when we'd take ice cream from the back, it'd be like cement. Like you'd have to let it sit out of the freezer for about 2 hrs to even be able to scoop it. So now that you mention doing that, I can see where it'd be hard enough to withstand the heat for a little while
Guys.. this guy is Australian not American. Quit letting all the Americans have the fun obesity activities and credits to themselves. Other nations deserve credit too XD
Seriously, it's really quite delicious. Just be sure to "try" your first one from someone that truly knows how to make it "or" better yet visit a local restaurant that specializes in the preparation of "Fried Ice Cream". Because sometimes people attempt to make Fried Ice Cream...and it usually falls short of the FLAVOR & TEXTURE. Back in the day a restaurant called "Chi Chi's" was well-known for their Fried Ice Cream. It was served on a crispy sugar-cinnamon tortilla, surrounded with berry puree (sauce) & assorted fresh berries, then they topped it with whipped topping, then drizzled it with a delicate amount of warm Vanilla Honey. This DESSERT was so freakin' delicious!!! When I took my first bite of that crunchy ice cream (Fried Ice Cream)...it was like nothing I'd ever had. The "crunchy crust" that surrounds the premium quality ice cream had a unique flavor...almost reminicent of a vanilla bean & cinnamon blend. It didn't taste like bread crumbs, corn flakes, etc. It had an EXCELLENT flavor...and the texture was PERFECT. I'm not sure how they made theirs, but it was extremely good! So, please don't be put off by the "technique"...it's good to try new & different things. Sometimes, something may SOUND weird or GROSS to us, but it may be sort of DELICIOUS, afterall! :-D
I eat these at a Vietnamese restaurant in my neighborhood all the time. It's "Kem chiên" in Vietnamese. I'm not sure what they used to coat it exactly, but it probably was some kind of cookie crumb mixture. Absolutely heavenly. Woohoo for fast Asian metabolism! Gonna keep this up til it burns out in about twenty or thirty more years.
Carol Docherty it's addictive. The ice cream didn't fully melt out because he chilled it after every step other than frying. I make a cheese cake version, it sounds gross but it's tasty and the cheese cake is intact after being fried in the dough papillotte (it's more like a nearly paper thin bag dusted with confectionary sugar after frying).
Hey nicko, I know you won't have time to see this message but I would like to say thanks a lot to you for giving us this recipe! I prepared it last night and made it for tonights dessert as for mine and my bf's 2years and 6months and he really loved it! he says it's his favorite recipe now ahaha, thank you~~ !
I was watching some show about fried foods, and of course fried ice cream was one of the items. This guy hardened the ice cream first, then dipped it in cornflake mixture (cornflakes, cinnamon and sugar). Put it back in the freezer. Later he fried it for like 2 seconds. Put it on a plate and sprinkled more cinnamon and sugar and that's it. But I never saw him dip it in egg. I'm going to try your version and his. Thanks for the upload.
crazy808ish Wait... is that a trick question? What country are we talking about here? Because people inhale shit like this on a daily basis in America.
EQOAnostalgia Doesn't matter. I'm sure there are areas where this food doesn't even exist. My point is that two scoops of ice cream probably has way more calories than one fried scoop, so to immediately call is a frozen heart attack is an exaggeration for most people... Those that eat deserts normally I mean.
Ever wonder why people comment about how dumb something is or hello diabetes and cholestrol... why? Dont eat it alot and dont watch the vid if it isnt what u like. Damn...

I dunno Nicko, you have the spelling police here, and the animal rights lady as well, and thats all good in the right place. I am wondering WHY they even bother on a recipe video making fried ice cream? Geez, we are even told that ice cream is delicious enough without doing anything to it. Shit man, we have a mummy figure here as well. What have you done to attract all of these idiots? They would be far better served if they used appropriate forums to air their grievances!

Im pregnant. The fair is in this week (which I have been waiting for for a month!!!) and all I can think of is having some delicious funnel cake! Have you ever made a video on funnel cake?
When I first heard of this I though it was disgusting but I have to say this looks like a tasty combination of hot and cold, sweet and savoury, and pretty dam good. I need to find and make your cheesecake that I've seen pictures off. I hope it's vanilla! Cheers for your videos. Nice clear and easy to follow instructions.
I haven't made these in a while, but I remember it being a whole lot easier to taking two loafs of break, cutting off the crusts, putting a thing of ice cream in the middle of one loaf, and then putting the other loaf on top of it and then squishy the edges so it completely surrounds the ice cream. Oh, and then you can dip it in eggs to give it extra sticking power. I mean, this method seems a whole lot easier than the whole taking it out and putting it back in the fridge lol.
Oh...perhaps I should let everyone know that you fry the bread and ice cream afterwards haha. And yes, pack it tight, deep fry it, and the bread just tears away softly with the ice cream.
FYI, im not the only one who hasnt heard of it. Lots of others have commented saying that they havent heard of it. Its not a problem. I still think it looks delicious.
Aw man, I forgot about these! I remember when I use to live in Florida---the Mexican restaurants had this. AMaaAaazing. But it was more so like a sweet graham coating, kinda like what's used for key lime pie crust.
Why do all of his videos start with him yelling into a camera 3 inches away

Yes, moderation. Life should have bits of fun in it. What's the point if you can't enjoy a treat now and again?
I just made this, it was terrific. But instead of corn flakes, I used Special K cereal, and it made it more crunchy and delicious! yum, thank youuuu.
You are really good. I am hooked on your videos
Yup leave it up to America to find how to fry ice cream. -_-....sigh

could you maybe add toasted coconut to the cornflake crumbs? yumm :)
I can see no reason why not, I think that would be yummy, and some cinnamon sugar as well. :)

Thank you for taking time to share how to make FRIED ICE CREAM...
You super rock! :-)
its midnight here, and now im hungry ... seriously ?
Can I use bread crumbs?
Why not
corn flakes are better...you could use unseasoned panko and get closer
It's better to fry them in coconut oil rather than vegetable oil, coconut oil is lighter and healthier and has a better taste.
Zaib Muhammad
if you are worrying about the healthiness of fried ice cream, you have your priorities twisted.
Thank you for posting this recipe! I'll be trying this for a dinner party this weekend and I can't wait to see how they taste.

Bread crumbs Also pretty good.
Every Chinese restaurant in Australia has this on their dessert menu.
I don't know about other countries, though.
It's also very nice with a liqueur poured over it, like Grand Marnier, or my favourite, Crème de Menthe, with its lovely minty flavour!
I love how easily your videos are to understand :). Thank you
This is the best recipe for fried ice cream on TH-cam I've been using it for ten years now with great success my kids asked me to make this all the time he also has a great video on how to make butterbeer from Harry Potter which I also believe is the best video on that cuz it's completely from scratch well besides the cream soda

Making some while I watch this lol looking forward to eating mine with caramel sauce :)
A drizzle of honey and chocolate sauce is amazing too.
Bread and ice cream.... Together??
Oh...perhaps I should let everyone know that you fry the bread and ice cream afterwards haha. And yes, pack it tight, deep fry it, and the bread just tears away softly with the ice cream.
