  • I'll explain and show different ways to use (and not to use) a delay pedal and where you should put it in your signal chain in different situations to achieve the sound you're looking for.
The original footage of the EV intro clip was shot by Dennis Henson and KJ Melgoza. Thanks guys!
The song on the clip is 'Feed The Fire' from my solo album 'Easy Does It': spoti.fi/2S3owRZ

There are guitar players that make you want to grab a guitar and there are guitar players that don't. Euge belongs to the former group. Euge presents very useful information in his videos in his own approachable style. Good pace, clear delivery, nice personality.

Thanks Euge! Unfortunately, I had to come to these conclusions through a hard path of errors and trials myself, but this is absolute gold of information for newcomers!

This is really a fantastic video and really shows how to best use delay. I pretty much play Fender style amps with pedals for distortion these days and that allows me to put my overdrive/distortion pedals first and as you demonstrated that works nicely.

When playing live, I run all my pedals through the front of the amp because I don't like running 3 cables to my amp (2 to the efx loop in the back of the amp; 1 to the input). I use two different delays, one for when I use the amp's distortion and one for when I'm using my pedals to create distortion. It's easy to remember after a little practice. When I use the "pedal's delay" when using the amp distortion or clean I also get the benefit of a heavy delay (like U2-style) or a warmer lush delay when I run clean. It's just another way of doing things. :)

I thought you were going to demonstrate how to use a delay in front of a distorted preamp, there's a video from Pete Thorn doing this with an Echoplex to get the echoed rhythms in Van Halen's Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, it does work, you just have to make it much less aggressive to keep it from getting overwhelming, less repeats, less blend or mix and a faster decay, and a darker and more vintage delay works better than a modern brighter one as it gets lost more easily. Still, killer video and tips as always Euge! \m/

Yes, i was going to say that, an analog delay can work in front of distortion better than digital

Interesting vid as per usual, I must experiment with this with my es5 so I can move delay before / after drives as I run amps only just on edge of brake up and crank the drive to get distortion .

I want to use the distorsion from the amp and have the Delay come after. My guitar is plugged into the front of the amp, and the send and return into the Delay pedal. It isnt working so Im just wondering if i Am stupid or if something is broken? My amp is a Randall Rh100 and my pedal is a Behringer Vd400

Oh that’s strange. This might be a dum question but just to make sure😊: have you connected the effect loop send to delay’s input and delay’s output to effect loop return? Otherwise it doesn’t work. If it’s a parallel loop make sure the level is open and the delay’s level too in any case no matter if the loop is series or parallel loop. Can’t remember now which one the Randall has.

Hi Euge! Is it ok to add delay in Logic while mixing, or is it better to record by using a delay pedal? What do think about this? Kiitos opettavaisista videoista mestari🙏

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi man! If you record the delay then you can’t get it off or change it so I always put it in the insert of the track (so you can have it on if you want when recording) and then when mixing you can tweak it or take it completely off or try out different delays, effects etc.
So in general the effects that are normally in front of the amp (overdrive, wah etc.) you want / need to record and then time based effects (dly, rev etc.) that are normally in the amp’s effect loop you add afterwards ’cos then you have a ”pure” sound recorded and then you can add whatever you want afterwards 👌😎.
But if the delay is part of the riff (The Edge type of thing for example) and in front of the amp then you obviously need to record that ’cos if you add it aftwrwards it doesn’t work like it works in front of the amp 😊.
      Nasta kuulla! Kiitos!

It depends what I’m looking for; a long, short, slapback etc. so I can’t really give you an answer on that 😎.
For this video; I have no idea since it’s been a while since I filmed this.
