- Join Mike and Marcia (figuratively) as they shower in the B Box using Advanced RV's recycle shower system. The system cleans shower water through a series of filters, reheats it to temperature, and can be used to flush the toilet.
Reminder - B Box 1 is available for sale. Check out all our available units at advanced-rv.co...

Marcia is a good sport to allow you to film and speak with her on camera while she is showering. The technology is superb and I remember hearing you introduce the concept at the RV Fest two years ago and now it is live. Kudos to Advanced RV for pushing the envelope of technology. This is like being at the New York Worlds Fair in 1964 and seeing new products like a microwave being unveiled and then finding it in our homes a few years later.
Game changer, congratulations.
Are you planning on selling kits for those of us that would never be able to afford an ARV vehicle?
What a fantastic leap forward for RV living! Congratulations! Now if incinerator black tanks could be incorporated, RV living would have all the convenience of house living!
I think the two pressure indications are backwards on the second set of filters. Should be higher pressure (8.7 ish) upstream and lower (6.2 ish) downstream, right?
Such an amazing achievement and a huge opportunity for extended off-grid boon-dockers. Well done!
Just make it standard! Who wouldn't want it? Excellent job ARV!
I love your hot water control panel ! Excellent
I want this for my LTV please! My wife would love it!
Super!! This is Great!!
Can this also be installed in the 170 Sprinter Vans? Both Regular and Extended?
Was always hesitant with Class-B because of the water supply.
That is just amazing. You guys continue to amaze us full timers.
Among the best rvs made they care a ton. About what they do passion
Good job guys! I know you have been working on this a long time.
I know your company did a lot of research and development for this recirculating shower. If I recall just before or about the same time you introduced the idea of the B-Box you were testing a mock up standing shower at your shop. I’ve searched all TH-cam all year for people with similar systems. While they all are happy about the length of the showers, they are not thrilled with the amount of labor into cleaning the filters and purging the system over and over again. Most claimed the water pressure drops very quickly indicating the filters are clogged. Does this have to do with their possible schematic/engineering of the system install, quality of filters, or type of soap and shampoo being used???
There are numerous problems with using these standard filter media that are intended for drinking water, with a recirculating shower design. Bottom line, it's total overkill.
Standard paper filters are a poor choice for a system like this. Skin cells and other elements that are in shower water, present a large amount of sub-micron contamination that will quickly clog a filter array, such as the one presented in this video. A better choice would be to only filter the larger sediments, and sterilize the water thoroughly before returning it to the shower head. Commercial soaps are in reality, detergents, and they are full of emulsifier and other stuff that will quickly clog a filter. Use only organic oil based liquid soaps, such as Dr. Bronners. And dilute the soap! 10:1 soap / water.
@@EcoGreensFarm Thank you I am researching for a future bus build out and had concerns about filtration for a shower loop vs drinking water. Would building in precipitation before the catch tank help with some of the issues of clogging in a multi stage system or would straight up UV for sterilization with large participate filtration be a better option?
Most builds I’ve seen use 2.5” x 10” filters. A 4.5” filter has over 3X more filter surface - the elements cost $1 more and the housings are $15 more.
most people reuse the same water for multiple showers because they use a big tank, and that's very bad
@EcoGreensFarm You need to ad active coagulation (aluminum oxide) to the process to remove the soap. Will need more water holding capacity tho.
Pretty incredible control system you have there, sir.
Innovation there! Well done!
2 years now... How has the recycle shower been working? Any improvements?
My wifes biggest concern for an off grid rv is the bathroom and shower. If Im able to atleast go a week before doing a change out of water and dump a toliet thats a win.
Well done! ☺
I wonder if charcoal should go before the particulate filters to remove soap before it gunks up downstream
Nice UI. Would go for different pump type, though. Great system.
Not a new idea, but the execution is sublime🏴🏴👍👍
Does it clog easily with soap? Seems like a common issue I see with the recirc on youtube.
Genius system. I'd really like to visit your shop some day. Love your custom vans.
Does using soap and shampo affect the longevity of filter and water?
Marcia, Thank You for going Above and Beyond demonstrating the recycle shower. What an amazing option to have in an RV. Just curious about the draw on the battery system for a 20 minute shower. The pump sounded like it was working a little bit. Great Company Great Innovation
what are you using to monitor your system thanks in advance
Awesome! Is the system capable of showing any unique failure points, say if one of the pumps fails?
Cool! And how does the water get (re-) heated? Electric/fuel/other?
Well done ARV Team. You've taken the original shower recycling system I designed for the trailer I towed behind WOMP and showed you for burning man 5 years ago, and as usual, taken things to the next level of engineering and finish.
Keep it up, I see a B-Box in my future, especially if you start building on a HD truck chassis that can tow 15K pounds!
how do you filter soap? it's disolved in the water, the filters won't do much?
Where did you have the system installed? What PSI do you get when filters are all brand new? What app were you using to monitor PSI? I assume the sensors needed go be installed in line? How much did all that cost? Nice to know 2 gallons is adequate!
Please let us know please
Wow. Love it. Great way to get more out of a precious resource.
That looks great guys! Is the filter change based on a certain amount of PSI drop or just a general 6 month approximate time frame? How difficult is it to change the filters (are they inside or outside)?
If you shower daily, you will be servicing and changing filters weekly with this over complicated system.
Nicely done!
I like the screen, icons work much better for my brain lol
Is it commercially available? Thanks again
Great Job awesome looking for something like this for my shuttle bus build . Any info on the components used for building this system ?
What is that software that makes the picture of your water system? Is that using open source software?
Do you have the app for the control panel? That’s neat!
If i ever hit the powerball.....
Awesome video!!
That’s amazing
Very good equipment!!
you guys ever think about the espar hydronic system?
I'm no expert but your diagram @ 2:46 has the dirty water leaving the shower drain, going through only one filter then dumping into the fresh water tank? Should it not go through the rest of the process before going into the fresh water tank?
How does the soap suds get filtired?
what is this temperate reheat module that you just quickly talked about
This is an awesome amazing step forward in off grid. But bet this is so cashed in on by fitters and retailers alike
So what I’m saying is this will be mega economical but mega expensive both to buy and have installed 🥲
Great video though. And thank you for sharing 👍
Mad cool!
Where is shower link
Wild!!!
Whats the name of the shower control screen?
Can I purchase one?
Hi guys, does soap/shampoo/conditioner affect the filtration/operation of your shower?
Of course it does. That will the the top reason you'll want to change your filters often. Even after "filtering" the water will still be cloudy and contaminated from the chemicals in the soap/shampoo/conditioner and you wont feel as clean after multiple showers without changing the filters.
please tell me where can i purchase this system
link to the control system?
I would filter the water before putting it in the tank, second the psi reading make no sense. The PSI is higher after the filters.
The shower is still working?
After three years of intermittent use, we're finding that the shower system requires significant maintenance to keep filters clear and water pristine. We didn't experience these issues in our year of testing and haven't put this system in recent builds. We are exploring ways to make it better.
@@AdvancedRV thank you.
Where are you located?
This can be as complex or simple as one makes it.
Many reports on this recycled water hype are sketchy!
There are so many videos all with major gaps that it is hard to analyze this recyclable water feature accurately.
Some videos show graphs that expose each part and their order in the system, others hardly cover that crucial ingredient.
Some videos show an automated process using ARDUINO controls and electronic check valves, others do it manually.
Some systems are tank water heater based while others are tankless.
I have come to prefer the tankless approach.
5 main concerns, OVERALL WEIGHT/SPACE/TRIPs/Maintenance/Cost:
- optimizing trips to the grid
- water weight, - batteries capacity/weight not to be ignored,
I have already 200 lbs of LiFePO4 on board, may have to go 100 more!
...invite 2 heavy persons(250 or more) to seat in the back of your car, and see the difference! (mileage, handling, performance)
- cost of, and frequency, replacing things that wear,
- maintenance
I am basing the numbers on servicing 1 person.
WATER consumption:
People claim one can take up to 9 showers on 3.5 gallons,
others are using a 5 gal shower tank, which would come close to bring the count to 14 showers, making it a 2 person weekly satisfaction.
Many state that the way to reduce the negatives is to skip showers.
Some people claim they only shower once a week! ...while the rest of their family groans if not taking a shower every other day, some of them every day.
I am thinking, use a brush and no soaps, or very light liquid soap sparingly used, hardly a solution for a woman's head mop!!! I used to keep my hair long, I know!
...and I do not feel spic and span if I do not wash my hair at each shower.
YOU TOOK ONLY 2 SHOWERS AND USED 2 GALLONS ALREADY!?
On a 4 gal tank one person could shower daily for 7 days, without over-cycling to a nasty level. ...a safe amount of added chlorite to the water like the water company does, may improve on this performance.
so, that's 16 gal a month or 144 lbs of water at start
or 48 gal -> 432 lbs(wo!) if wanna reduce trips [once every 3 months].
or 32 gal -> 270 lbs [once every 2 months]
One can quickly see, if 2 persons are on board, life gets harder QUICKLY!
SANITARY requirement:
A couple had the water tested by professionals at a water plant, it shows that it is safe... the water remains within good sanitary levels. (bacterial, Chemicals, etc...)
They did not add anything to the water.
MAINTENANCE is heavy...
There are many reports about the filters clogging up fast and in need of replacing frequently.
- Must clean the pre-filter daily, after each(maybe 2) shower(s) !
wondering to place that filter in the shower stall, for quick immediate servicing.
- Must clean all other filters weekly
- Must flush and sanitize the system weekly
- replace all filters every 6 months
Don't know the cost of the filters yet... this can get costly fast.
So the claim of forever shower is massive hype... as usual, people cannot remain simply real! I think the system is viable if one applies maximum water saving at each shower, no long luxury shower except on occasion. ...and that gives a decent average benefit, while a luxurious experience when feel the need.
...the end.
I guess I am just to spoiled to do this and wash with recycled water.
The psi is low
They have a toilet that burns your waste so you dont need a black tank
Showering in your own sweat, Nice.!!
Am I the only one who wants to see the process without the curtains 🤔
Will this work for a van build?
