    Great to see that the USMC enjoys working with Dutch Marines and Navy just a little background could have bin added to the report. The area off Aruba and Suriname is part off the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Dutch Armed forces have permanent stations there. The Dutch navy and coastguard are also responsible for a lot off anti drug ops in the region serving as a front line against drugs smugglers to the US. Would love to speak to a US Marine who was there how they experienced the RHIB and the propulsion system that we use..

      Its all about heart. You want it, then take it. Train your heart out and learn to tread water for very long periods of time.

      Don't hope, achieve. You have to know you can make it to actually make it. When you're doing pushups if you think your arms are going to give out they will if you know you can do it then you will. I'm not a Marine yet I'm going to enlist in a few years.

    Trained to "a little bit higher level than the general Marine". That's putting it modestly. Combatant diver is just a little bit more advanced than swim qual basic.

      eddie jussely they go to their unit. I thought Force Recon was different too

    • @SaftonYT
      @SaftonYT 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      There's essentially two types of Recon units in the Marine Corps: Force Recon and Division Recon. Division Recon Marines are the "basic" Reconnaissance Marines assigned to a Reconnaissance Battalion which is in turn controlled by its parent Marine Division.
      Within each Reconnaissance Battalion, however, there is also a Force Recon Company which is actually controlled not by the Division, but by the Marine Expeditionary Force, a higher level command.
      Now to answer your question, yes and no. Division and Force Recon Marines both attend the same basic pipeline to become Recon Marines. They have to graduate from the School of Infantry's ITB before successfully passing a screening board, indoctrination course, and finally the Basic Reconnaissance Course. This gives them the MOS of Reconnaissance Man.
      However, the missions of Force and Division Recon differ. Both obviously have a primary focus on intelligence gathering and surveillance ops. However, the basic Recon Battalions *theoretically* focus on the gathering of tactical-level intelligence, traditionally within 10 miles of friendly front lines. Force Recon, on the other hand, is focused on the "deep reconnaissance" mission, meaning the collection of strategic-level intelligence past that ten mile mark, often behind enemy lines.
      In addition, while Division Recon is often tasked with direct action missions such as patrols and raids akin to light infantry, this is considered a secondary role on paper.
      Force Recon on the other hand trains and focuses much more heavily on (often special operations-style) direct combat actions, such as boarding hostile ships or assaulting coastal installations.
      As you can probably guess, most of the enlisted guys who end up as Force Recon Marines have usually served several years in a regular Reconnaissance Battalion first. It's often considered "the next level". However, it's a lateral transition for experienced Recon Marines; there's no standardized USMC-wide "Force Recon Course" they attend or anything like that.
      Many Recon Marines, both basic and Force, are also airborne (parachute) and combat diver (SCUBA) qualified. However, this is not a strict requirement to be a regular Recon Marine, whereas it's a necessity for entry into Force simply due to the nature of their operations and the fact that they may need to insert deeper behind enemy lines through unconventional means. For the same reason, Force Recon Companies have a higher number of Military Freefall (HALO/HAHO)-qualified Marines.
      So, again, the answer to your question is yes and no. The official basic pipeline to become a Recon Marine in either command is the same, with the main differences arising in the respective experience levels and in-house training that the units conduct reflecting their differing focuses and missions.
