  • And here we are, at the point which I have to check everything inside the engine.
And since a few people asked me how can one determine what colour the bearings are if you don't have any marks on crankshaft, crankcase of con-rods, I decided to make a video to show how can it be done. Because it can!
Watch this video to find out how can you determine something that seems to be a huge problem!
0:29 What if there's no codes anywhere?
    1:10 Con-rod identification
2:35 Crankshaft code identification (for con-rods)
    3:54 Crankcase code identification
5:35 Crankshaft code identification (for main joints)
    6:58 An alternative way...
10:53 Some gearbox measurements (usually neglected)

Hey Chris just a little info for u the bearing shells r thinner toward the joins they r made on purpose like that to act as an oil reservoir So u can c measuring there is incorrect I didn’t have this info u r sharing from Yamaha so I bought a selection of shells purple White blue black and I Tried various in the different brg bores! As u can c that is a long winded procedure but as I knew what thick the dif coloured shells r I could take educated guess on all the. Mains. I repeated this on the big ends and ended up with Purple every where but am super happy as the oil clearance is all excellent now really good video think u for sharing

Thanks for the info!!! I'll keep that in mind. I thought the were of the same thickness all over. But what you say make sense! Thanks again!

How do you clean the oil routes inside the crankshaft?

Good question! I use parts cleaner, followed by a good blow with compressed air.
