  • It took me a long time to edit and upload this video. They say "better late than never" but sometimes I wonder how true that statement is. Please just understand that I've been struggling with some rather difficult health issues over the past few years. But, at least I got this video out.
Let me know if you like it, and please be kind. Thank you!

Very intricate and I did enjoy your explanation of the process. Makes sense to me and love that you would like to make something as an art piece. As it had started, my first thought was " hmmm what if those were spirals of neon?"

This is awesome - I could watch it all day. I think it looks better going slow than going fast. Thanks for sharing the design+build process!

Very nice! You could tighten the chain, by adding a roller halfway, to get rid of the jerky movement of secondary spiral.

Like most art, the purpose is subjective. The following is what it means to me. The Fibonacci number shows up a lot in plant life due to how cells divide. This is why the golden spiral exists in a lot of flowers, but it's also why seashells have the same spiral. For this reason, the golden spiral has come to mean "natural". I hold the personal belief that nothing is "unnatural" (except perhaps the concept of it). We also live in a world where industrialization is seen as "bad" due to its negative effects on the "natural" environment. I wanted to play with the idea that industry is based on nature and uses it for it's own purposes. At the same time, nature supports industry while being used. Both perspectives are valid. The difficulty is finding the balance that can work well for "human nature" while also not causing irreparable damage to "non human nature". After all, I don't consider a beaver dam to be unnatural just because it was made by a mammal. We, as humans, do the same thing for the same reasons. We just do it at a scale that can, potentially, have very bad (and unintended) side effects.
So, what's the point of this piece? It's art. It exists because I thought of a thing and wanted to share it. It exists because I had an idea and wanted to explain it. The point is communication, society, and viewing the world through different lenses. After all, humans wouldn't be where they are today in their development if it wasn't for doing these things. In essence, the point is to help people to communicate about a difficult topic without buzzwords and team flag waving. The point is showcasing the beauty of interweaving various components working in harmony, instead of discord.
Sorry this turned into an essay 😅
      Great question

Make it go faster! Making it is trivial.
