I'd love to see more game variants of these cards. Been introducing Koi koi and Sakura to my friends and family and all of these are really fascinating. Will you make a video on Kabufuda in the future?
yes, i'm considering making videos about kabufuda as well
@@DJsuryong Oh I also notice that in the most Hanafuda designs, the five Tane cards for Feb, May, Jun ,Jul, and Sep have clouds in them. Even in both version of the Hawaiian prints shown in the video have them. Is there any historical significance or Yaku that's associated with these cards? Or is it just a design choice that just got stuck over the years?
@@MrH2O1998 to my knowledge, there were no yaku that were based on the clouds of those animal cards. it's just there for decoration.
also, old hanafuda designs such as echigobana also had clouds on the cuckoo card (animal of wisteria). current hanafuda decks don't. instead, the card had a red crescent moon, which was not present in echigobana.
I learned to play some version of the “flower game” in Ponape, Micronesia, in 1976! No idea at the time what a wonderful complex game it really is! Thank you for this video, I came across it while surfing around You Tube and recognizing the cards!
@@joanleblanc8698 really? I want to know what the version played in micronesia is like! ^w^
Thanks! What happens when there are no more cards left in the field but the players still have some?
in that case, you have no choice but to discard a card from your hand into the field. then you draw a card from the draw pile as normal.
(if the draw pile runs out of cards before players run out of cards in hand, then there must be an error in the number of cards dealt at the beginning of the game.)
@@DJsuryong ok I see, thanks for the quick answer 🙏
