Ah..a glimpse into the glorious past, I mean can you imagine Cadbury's giving you more Crunchy, nah! These days they're taking it away and not even telling us! Great compilation Steve, happier times! 👍🏻🙂
Ahhh. My favourite part of Fridays. Can't lie, milkybar will always hold a special place in my heart. Probably because in my (very) early youth one of my mother's colleagues used to call me "milkybar kid" (i had insanely fair hair and gold framed glasses so i can see his poibt)
@@RetroSteveUK I hadn't seen the full ad but I think they used a snippet of it during an anniversary ad campaign back in the mid 2000s maybe? Only milkybar adverts I remember are the animated ones!
@@RetroSteveUK I've always been fascinated by the UK , the landscape, culture, and people. Unfortunately haven't been able to visit. I love Dr Who, The Beatles, James Bond, Tommy Cooper, and other aspects of British culture.
I miss those proper chunky chocolate bars like Galaxy etc and with the foil wrapping you could slip through the outer wrapping, not quite the same now are they
Yes, this. I've always missed the foil wrappings. Particularly on Kit Kats - running your nail down between the choc fingers, splitting the foil as you go. Sounds a bit dodgy, reading that back! 😂
Fab! I remember some of these, don't think they'd get away with them all now. Do they still do 'Choc Dips'? I recall my mom buying me a choc dip many times I had to go local shopping with her when I was about 4 or five years old!
@@El-RitmoRight, I've just rewatched that too many times! Yeah he's definitely familiar-only person I can think of is another Eastender-Max Branning? (but with hair!)
@@nellyfett2681 I think you may be right. Not watched EastEnders in years, but he (Jake Wood) was in Press Gang and played Kill Crazy in Red Dwarf, both of which floated through my mind watching the ad. He's the best guess I have for now, anyway.
I can't believe they actually showed that poppadom commercial on TV. I do wish food from Indian was easier to get outside of a huge city in the US, though. I didn't know Riesen still existed. Are twiglets just flavored pretzels? One time a few years ago, I looked up what it would cost to buy and have the chocolate boxes like the Celebrations or the Roses and I about fainted. It was about 5 times or more just to get it shipped to the US than what it would cost if I were in the UK. I love chocolate, but one box is not worth nearly $100 unless it's maybe a gourmet brand.
In general I much prefer jingles to commercial, licensed music in ads, but that Riesen Chocolate Chew jingle is absolute garbage (yet annoyingly sticky, so I guess it does its job - I do still remember it all of these years later).
Tell me about it! I hated it back then and still do now - feels a bit too "white-middle-class". However, hearing it again still triggered nostalgia. Weird feeling, simultaneous nostalgia and revulsion, AND .. that bl**dy tune was stuck in my head for two days solid after editing it!! 😫
I at first thought that they were newer, too, but according to Wikipedia they launched in 1997, which is before Steve's usual cut-off of, I believe, around 2000 for his retro ad collections.
The cut-off is fairly flexible. Normally it's anything that's 4:3 ratio (ie. not widescreen) but sometimes I'll include widescreen stuff if it feels nostalgic to me (age 50). Usually, anything after 2000 just feels too new.
@@Opel_Guy I remember a video by LA Beast where he ate a full packet of sugar free gummi bears. It wasn't pretty! 🤣 Here, if you're curious: th-cam.com/video/sMjgaa5j_LE/w-d-xo.html
I love these glimpses into much better times.
Absolutely 🤍
Oh goodness, my mum used to put trio bars in my lunchbox. Happy memories

Thanks. I still feel like I'm time travelling when I watch these old ads, even after spending hours making the videos.

The Millybar ad on this compilation was one I hadn't seen before. Felt familiar though, strangely.

Great stuff. Two of those cracked me up. Cheers.
There are some gems out there. Shame they can't all be stone cold classics.
Im American, but, I love these old UK adverts!
That's great! Nice to know we're reaching that far. Out of curiosity, do you have any history with the UK, or is just that the ads appeal regardless?

@RetroSteveUK I think you can still get foil wrapped 2 finger kit kats in the multi packs
@@stevedickson5853 That's a point. I remember now, but I haven't had one of those for quite a while. Need to buy some now.
Some candy bars are still foil wrapped like that in the US, so I get it. :)
Another scrumptious video in the books Steve, much respect from the Western U.S.
🦅🇺🇸 🌎👍
A Twix these days, lasts about 2 minutes!
You know what I miss? The Twix Ice Cream bar. Bit like a Mars Ice Cream, but with the biscuit down the middle. I absolutely LOVED those.
Oh, how I miss Twiglets! 😭
The vintage sweets and snacks adverts compilation was very great to watch, What year is that Galaxy advert from? I placed it about early 80s.
Well, the actress is Lysette Anthony in the days (from the look of it) when she was acting in Auf Wiedersehen Pet. That would put it around 1983-ish.
@@RetroSteveUK Most Americans only know her from the movie "Dracula: dead and Loving It", the short-lived early 90s Dark Shadows remake, or "Krull".
KP Choc Dips! Always wanted one the size of a bucket. Don't remember KP Poppadom's, but advert was brill 🤣👍
@ModTrash Choc Dips .. another snack that's been shrinking over the years.

I've seen them in the last year or two, but not sure if they're still around.
I think they are still around, but they don't taste good anymore
Is that a young Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) in the mars bar ad?
Yup. I recognise the redhead, too, but I can't place what from right now.

I love Twiglets. They're basically like a straight pretzel as you say, but coated in a sticky, malty, salty substance. They're very morish.

And horrifically mispronounced! It's rye, like the crop, ryes-en, not reason. Bloody yanks!
Cherry Gillespie first up.
I thought it was her 👍🏻
I’m confused. What age were celebration chocolates released?! I thought they came out when I was a teenager / adult.

I loved cool mints but unfortunately they had a side effect 💨
Probably ate too many. 🍬🍬🍬 🍑💨🍃
Were they sugar free? Sugar free sweets have the same effect on me if I eat too many and worse. 💩
They were sugar free and there was a warning on the packet about eating too many.
