I always find the difference between typical UK and US adverts remarkable. That Magnum ad is like so many Wrigley's and Coke ads - polished, glamorous, featuring aspirational lifestyles, yet singularly unmemorable - whereas we got Chris Barrie voicing multiple characters in a weird, animated Skips ad, saying multiple odd lines that would go on to live rent-free in people's heads to this day. CRUNCH!
Great selection today, some here that I’ve never saw before. I remember Monster Munch spokey dokeys, my pal had loads as she was from a big family so they went through loads of packets of Monster munch.
8:30 loved that Skips advert but looking at it now, that guy was so incensed with rage with the idea of a melting crisp that he trashes his girlfriend’s living room. Weird city indeed!
It always makes me wonder why ads in Europe, the UK, and Australia use characters and imagery for selling a product when the product isn't actually sold in the place depicted by the characters and the characters don't exist in the country where the product exists to be sold.
Mechagamezilla did a video on The Infinite Review channel a few months back lamenting the demise of plain chocolate Bounty (by far the superior variety), and tried to retrofit a blue Bounty to a red one by slicing off the chocolate and replacing it with Cadbury's Bournville, to make a BOURNTY bar 😁 It was a joke, but I'm honestly tempted to try something similar... 😄
@@RetroSteveUK I'm skeptical about how similar they'd be, but I've just found multiple recipes that say just to mix dessicated coconut with sweetened, condensed milk, shape, chill then dip in melted chocolate. Since Mars apparently no longer want my money maybe I'll try it 😁
@@RetroSteveUK I heard they were being stopped, and stocked up. I still have half a box in my fridge. Much sadness, and they were better than the milk version.
4:15 Yeah, because nothing rewards an attack of physical violent abuse like a box of black magic chocolates. What does he do if she was to stab him? Buy her a diamond ring?
hey just a heartfelt thankyou for bringing a smile and some nostalgia in this challenging world.
Always a pleasure! 😊

The days when television screens were small and chocolate bars were large.
So true.
That snickers bar the boxer was eating was absolutely huge compared to nowadays!
Agreed 😁
Wow, completely forgot about the Skips crisps advert. 😮 What a blast from the past.
Drifter choccy bars were nice. Don't think they're made any more.
Another great video Steve 👍🏽😎👍🏽
Brilliant, although now crave a United and a Jacobs Club 😂
I didn't even know there was a coffee flavoured Club bar.

It was the "Weird City" phrase that I've remembered the most over these years.
According to Google the bounty dark choc bar was discontinued in November 2022, I didn’t know it had gone.
I havent seen it since the late 2000s
😢
If I had to date an anthropomorphic cartoon animal-It would be the Cadbury caramel bunny ❤️
Voiced by Miriam Margolyes.
Good vid cheers 👍👍👍

We need to get hold of that coconut recipe.

Let me know how it goes if you try it. Potential video for TH-cam there .. 🫕🍫
I just checked out the Bournty video. Thanks for pointing that out. (I subbed.) Have you visited the Bournty-verse yet? Brilliant! 🤣
R I P red Bounty bars .
Would that be the dark chocolate ones? I've always loved those and didn't realise they'd gone, if indeed they have.
@RetroSteveUK yes, Caramac, Breakaway also gone 😢
@@stevedickson5853Breakaway bars was only discontinued feb of this year according to Google after falling sales apparently. 😟
I saw the thumbnail I really miss bounty dark because I am a dark chocolate lover.
One of my favourites too, and I hadn't even realised they'd gone.
@@RetroSteveUK I heard they were being stopped, and stocked up. I still have half a box in my fridge. Much sadness, and they were better than the milk version.
@@Add1ct666 I wonder if it's possible to replicate the recipe and make a home version?
Bring back united biscuits!
They were lush.

Great trip down memory lane. Never liked Bounty bars.
I, however, love them - especially the dark chocolate ones.
