Finally. I only know one other creator talking about this show and that is not enough. I'm living for the performances, cinematography and the debauchery. Apple Tv always comes through when I'm bored. Thanks for reviewing.
Thanks for the enthusiastic review. Very little on this great series. We are only at episode 5 in the US so I will watch the second half in about 12 days.
@@emmanniee Only up to episode 5 so I had to stop Marshall's review midstream. I just don't get why AppleTv would release it at different times depending on country. They just seem intent on making viewership and buzz as low as possible.
I totally agree with your take on the show and AppleTV. So much good stuff I just don’t see what the issue is with the lack of subscribers on Apple TV.
It is a great show and hopefully it will get recognition for awards. Episodes and 6 and 7 are coming. What I do not understand is how THE PERFECT STRANGE was written since the boy died. How did the mother know what to write? Was there a diary? I stopped at 10 min because it sounded like Marshall Stannus was going to reveal something about the last two episodes which are not available on APPLE TV yet. I also think APPLE TV has some of the best shows.
Did you finished it yet? Please do a part 2 because the ending is so rewarding, made me feel very uncomfortable and angry at myself but in a good way (do you know what I mean? lol) I had to go back and watch it a second time and with new eyes the story is soooo so good.
@@marshallstannus Amazing! This is one of those shows you need someone to talk to about it and as you said... almost nobody is watching it. I had the chance to attend to a screening with Alfonso Cuaron this past saturday and just made me appreciate it so much more.
It’s a delicious slow burn. I’m with you though… how did the dead boy’s parents know she let him die? There was the element of the mother being hurt that she couldn’t meet the boy her son saved… maybe something there. Loving the show!
I’m sorry to say I disliked it a lot. I was really looking forward to watching this one, with such a great cast and director, but there were so many moments I was yelling at the screen for the decisions the characters were making. The biggest problem was that it was plot-driven, not character-driven, and this is always a problem. Let me give you a couple of examples. 1. When Robert ‘finds out’ that Catherine has betrayed him with a young man 20 years ago, his reaction is to flee the house and drink away the pain in his car. Clearly, this was written by someone who hasn’t gone through such an ordeal when you find out your spouse has had an affair. The one thing you would do is ask questions-you want to know everything! Where, when, how, for how long. And loads of other stuff, like: Do you still think about him? Why did you never tell me? etc. There is no way you would leave that situation without knowing details. But the plot needed him to leave the scene; otherwise, she could have told him she was raped. 2. Clearly, they were well-off, perhaps rich, so why did Catherine choose to sleep at her mom's in the same bed? Why not some hotel nearby? The only reason you would go to your mother is to talk to her about it, explain what really happened-not some silly confession when she’s asleep. That’s not how normal people behave, but the plot demanded it. But not talking to her mother while staying at her place wouldn’t make sense, so her mother needed to be demented. 3. Why did Nancy secretly collect the film roll? That’s something you would want to share with your husband, right? She only did it to further the plot. Those pictures weren’t supposed to be found for another 20 years. 4. Why did Robert trust anything at all? Why did he believe the book? Why did he trust Stephen? And never even ask Catherine even once? Because the plot needs to have a big finale. 5. Last one. When Catherine woke up after she was drugged, she knew that Stephen was about to kill Jonathan. She didn’t know how long she had been out, so time could be of the essence. The logical thing to do is to call the hospital or police, right? Instead, she makes coffee-which she throws away after a few sips-while trying to get a Bolt taxi? All the time waiting, doing nothing. Again, this is not normal behavior, but (you guessed it) the plot required her to behave completely out of character so we could have the big finale… 6. There were other things, but those aren’t as important compared to the illogical plot-driven problems. So, no, I didn’t like it, although I really wanted to.
Finally a sane message. This series a boring, illogical mess. Just finished the forth episode and I am shocked by how unrealistic characters behave. Jonathan was confident till he met Catherine. Right away he turned into drooling idiot. And the scene at the sea, when he was saving a boy - for some reason he was pulling the boat by the rope, instead of pushing the boat. He could float for days just by holding that small boat. In this series things just happen, because otherwise it would be a pretty mundane story about people going to office. I can't believe people with such big names can produce such a mediocrity.
Lot’s of people I know are watching Disclaimer. Apple TV reckons it gets 45 million viewers and it shows get nominated and win many awards. Do you really think nobody knows about it?
Hey Marshall! I just wanted to say if there's a film or series you want to talk about I would probably watch it even if I didnt have interest in the film/series itself ☺️
It's the narration that's peculiar. She sounds like descriptive narration for the blind. But we not only get the exterior surroundings but also interior character insights and motivation. "'Sanctimonious Twit' is his judgment of himself" for example, feels rather harsh. Books will do this type of omniscient narration but in a movie, it feels quite original.
Interesting, sounds like they changed the twist from the book. That does seem to fix some issues with the book so maybe that was a good change. Just checked and looks like the show isn't over so they may not have changed anything, if so, I wonder how they'll handle it.
Respectfully,- I suspect people aren’t watching Disclaimer because it’s not really that good. It’s well funded, beautifully shot, and has a stellar cast, but it oscillates between feeling forced and boring. The narration is so overdone as to be distracting. The characters are unsympathetic (often annoying), and their motivations are so unrealistic that they break suspension of disbelief. (Ex: Why does everyone who comes into contact with the book automatically side with the author?) Again, with respect, I lost count of how many times you explained that the series is slow. At some point, it feels less like an explanation of a storytelling style and more like an apology for bad storytelling. 2¢.
I get that the husband's reaction makes the story interesting, but realistically, a majority of men would not be so disgusting like this. In fact alot of the behavior of the characters would not be liek this, and this whole story feels like disingenuous dramatic swill. You just can't see that because of the prestige actors and set design.
For me is boring and very bad written- story is simply stupid and have many issues, characters are unlikable, and narrator who explains characters feelings? Really?! Plus everything so far could be show in 30’. Huge disappointment and wasted potential
I’ve watched it several times..Thursday can’t come soon enough!
It’s Brilliant!!
what did you think?? I did not see that coming!!!
Yes thanks bro. I just came from watching the new episodes and was waiting for someone to talk about it. It’s so unique and original
Finally. I only know one other creator talking about this show and that is not enough. I'm living for the performances, cinematography and the debauchery. Apple Tv always comes through when I'm bored. Thanks for reviewing.
Please talk about these shows. Newspapers and TV used to pay critics to review their lineups. Without this we don’t know what’s worth watching.
Thanks for the enthusiastic review. Very little on this great series. We are only at episode 5 in the US so I will watch the second half in about 12 days.
Are episodes 6 & 7 already out in the UK?

Can't wait for your follow up video after the final episode which makes you have to rewatch it in its entirety.
Omg FINALLY SOMEONE IS TALKING ABOUT THIS
Have you searched it on TH-cam? Lots of people are talking about it. Have been since the start.
I only watched disclaimer for cate Blanchett but it’s actually really good
I just finished the book last night and plan to start the show tomorrow. Surprised I didn’t see more press for it!
It is REALLY good. I just loved it. Amazingly directed.
Please please do an update on your thoughts after watching the final episode! I'd love to hear your thoughts!!!!
Disclaimer is an exceptional show just a shame it's not streamed on a better platform than apple tv.
Apple tv has the best tv shows
Just no one knows about it

Yes doing a video on it today! Had the same feeling absolutely

THIS COMMENT. My husband and I watched it because of your previous video and are dying to know your thoughts.
Video on it today is coming!!
I'll watch Disclaimer once all the episodes are out...
I watched this show. It is excellent.
Based on the timing I’m guessing you’ve only watched through episode V. Re-review once you’ve gotten through episode VII, which is now available.
I just watched
Will do
It’s a delicious slow burn. I’m with you though… how did the dead boy’s parents know she let him die?

@marshallstannus will you consider covering the last episode? I would love your take! I enjoy listening to your commentary.
I have not been disappointed yet with apple shows

dark matter!!! best show i watched in a long time... i will deff check out this show.
Lot’s of people I know are watching Disclaimer.
Apple TV reckons it gets 45 million viewers and it shows get nominated and win many awards. Do you really think nobody knows about it?
In Australia I literally hear no one talk about any apple shows minus Ted lasso and maybe severance

This is 13 days old. Guess you haven’t made the finale. What a twist
Just finished, might do a follow up video
Because it is and was AWFUL!
What a misfire by such a talented writer-director!

Because all the streaming services are being shut down and nobody can afford Apple

I was looking forward to watching this. But since Sascha Baron Cohen is in it, I'm going to have to skip.
😂😂😂
Sascha Baron Cohen is the smallest issue (if ever) in this series.
You have dodged a bullet of wasting 7 hours of your time.
